Great Tour for Food Lovers

My wife and I did the tour as part of a Valentines Day in Boston and had a wonderful time. My wife and I lived about 10 minutes walk from the North End for a couple of years and I grew up learning to cook from an Italian grandmother. On top of that I am an avid FoodTV and food book nut. Even with my pretty extensive background in Italian cuisine and culture, I learned quite a bit and found several places in the North End that we hadn't discovered. I'd highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys food and learning about different cultures and their assimilation into America. Our guide was clearly very passionate about the people and the topic and made it very enjoyable for everyone in the tour. Thanks!!!

Having lived in the Boston area all my life and of Italian descent, I thought the tour would be mediocre at best. Boy was I surprised....I learned different things about the history of the north end and how it developed. Also, how the Italian culture changed based on the demographics of the area. I also never realized what great local shops existed in the North End and how the quality of the products was vastly superior to local supermarkets. I know now if you want good high quality food ( cold cuts, cheeses, olive oils, liquors, pastries etc), you need to shop in the North End. I recommend this tour strongly and I am planning on doing the Chinatwon tour next...

This Italian tour of the North End in Boston was excellent. Jim, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the history of the area as well as Italian cuisine and culture. He also gave excellent cooking tips and information on what to look for when you are at home doing your shopping. It was very cold outside the morning of our tour but well worth the money. I would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys food.

If you have an appreciation for anything Italian then this activity is for you. My Husband, Mother-in-law and myself totally enjoyed an early afternoon touring the North End. It started with our tour guide JIm who was the perfect host. He is extremely knowledgeable in Italian culture as well as all of the places we toured. His personality made for a great time. We sampled many delicious tidbits and learned some interesting facts. The tour lasted 3 hours and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Afterward Jim recommended a few places for us to go to lunch. Once again he was right on the mark. We had a great lunch which was the perfect end to a really fun day.

Went in the winter. I would like to do it again when it's warmer. I enjoyed the history of the area as well as the culture of Italy. The information I got helped me to make better purchases while in the north end and at home. It also gave me less touristy places to try. This allowed me to enjoy the meals I had on my short vacation in the area.

Learned a lot about the culture and people of the North End and about the best local ingredients and restaurants the North End has to offer. The guide was great and so were the tastings. I'd recommend it to anybody.

Excellent North End Market Tour

Quick and fun introduction to the traditions of the Italian North End of Boston. We visited authentic markets that would have gone unnoticed without this tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the establishments we visited, the food and the history of the area. The food samples were delicious and enticed you to return after the tour to make purchases. Our tour guide was a former chef, and he provided great recommendations for restaurants for lunch or dinner. All in all, an enjoyable experience. We are looking forward to trying their Chinatown tour next time we are in Boston.

This is a wonderful way to see a part of Boston you might not get to know without the "inside scoop"! The stores were great and the tour guide was very informative! The only thing that might add to it is a bit more food and a coffee tasting! Otherwise it was great!

Great tour!

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour. One of our group is a local but still learned a lot about the North End that she didn't know. Jim Becker is a great guide. Very knowledgeable and keeps things fun. Having said that, however, even though we had a relatively mild day for March, the initial introduction and chat, done on the Greenway, was way too long for standing outside in the cold. We were numb by the time we got into Marie's Bakery (the first stop). An alternate indoor place should be used.

Our guide was enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable and incredibly personable!! She knew her stuff & made it fun and educational. The food tastings were fabulous and we now know many shopping and eating destinations that make the North End so special. We have already referred several people to the website so they can take part in the great fun we enjoyed last weekend!
