My husband wanted to go whale watching on his 50th birthday as something special to do and we had a great time! Even though it was a rough ride Captain Dan did a great job with the trip. There were only 2 people out of our group of about 15 that got sick and Toby the crewman made sure they had anything they needed. Gina the biologist also did a great job describing what we were seeing and where to look. We saw many Humpback whales and lots of Orcas. There were also a couple of Albatross and many other sea birds. It was our first whale watching trip and I can say there will be many more. We left at 9am and returned about 2pm; so it was absolutely well worth the money. We plan on going again on my birthday in September.

This cruise was great. The host was informative and funny. She was approachable and knowledgeable. We saw many whales even in the fog of the day. They really know the animals of the bay.

I went on a 5 hour whale watch eco trip and really enjoyed it. Don't forget your cold weather gear and sea sickness meds if you are so inclined- it was very cold on the bay. Our trip was very foggy- but we still found many whales... some even came right next to the boat. I would recommend this trip.

The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The boat is larger than many others and is therefore quite a bit more comfortable.

My fiance and I decided to go on a whale-watching tour with Monterey Princess Whale Watching for my birthday. I have to say that it was probably one of my most memorable birthdays ever. The Monterey Bay region was experiencing the tail end of a ridge of high pressure, thus there was bright blue skies and absolutely no wind on shore. Both of these factors allowed for optimal viewing: no wind = no whitecaps, which are often mistaken for animal movement. We saw at least 20 humpback whales not more than 1-2 miles off shore. Several came up for air, a few slapped their flukes on the water, and one even breeched (jumped all the way out and slammed back into the water). Our guide was knowledgable about marine mammal behavior and pointed out whales, harbor seals, sea lions, jellyfish, and marine birds. We had so much fun that we want to whale-watch when the other whales come through the region, like in January and April.

More whales than I ever could have imagined! The naturalist did a great job of explaining what was going on and giving additional information about Monterey Bay. Highly recommend going while the humpbacks are still in Monterey!

Really nicely done whale watching tour, with the luck of perfect weather and very calm seas. There are currently 30+ Humpbacks in the bay, and I swear we saw them all, including some breaches and other acrobatics. I figured we'd see some whales, but had no idea that most of the 2 hours out on the water would be wall to wall whales. By the end of the cruise, my 7 year old was bored of seeing whales, and wanted to see something else!

We saw two dolphins on our way out of the harbor and then later several whales at a distance. One humpback whale was backstroking for quite awhile within our viewing distance. Another one kept showing us his tail. We had a fun time. A wind breaker was important for the outer part of the trip. Those who didn't have them stayed inside and missed some good viewing.

Lucked out on terrific weather conditions

Our trip was on a hot day on land with little wind so the waves were relatively calm. Conditions like this make the travelling over the water a breeze. Choose carefully when to go if you can. The 10 AM sailing is most likely to be the best conditions of the day. The whales were plentiful but i was hoping for a bit closer approach. Photo opportunities are brief and a good telephoto lens is very necessary so I recommend just scanning the water surface and be ready to find where the next water spout happens and take in the sight. The 2 1/2 trip is plenty of time to get your fill of observing these awesome creatures in their natural setting.
