Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruises

Although we've never been Whale Watching out of Monterey before I thought it would be a nice activity for my husband's Birthday. We frequent Carmel/Pacific Grove and Monterey frequently and love the area. I love and respect the ocean and all the creatures and splendor of the sea. We went Whale Watching ("Chasing") up in Alaska last September and thoroughly enjoyed our excursions. Seems like the flukes of the Gray Whale are much smaller than the Humpbacks though. Would have loved to see an Orca, but I guess that will be for another time. Our Naturalist on board was very nice and informative. I've been taking alot of Earth Science courses lately and have had the opportunity to go out on Humboldt State's Research vessel, The Coral Seas on several occassions. So I'm extremely interested in all the ocean has to hold and everything living beneath her surface. Some day maybe we'll plan it better so that we can see a whale breech. But it was fun to be out there anyway. Yes, I would highly recommend such a trip again to anyone who is interested in the ocean and all its creatures.

We saw multiple whales and it was breathtaking!!!!!

It was a relatively a nice day, 3/13/08 but still cool so being inside on the way out was nice. Once out spotting the Grey whales, there was plenty of room for everyone to view the whales. The Captain was very informative of the whales and their history. We saw about 10 to 12 Grey's. Was a nice and well spent $35 for the adventure. We are planing our next trip out when the Humpback Whales migrate.

We enjoyed the boat trip. The staff was very nice and helpful. The boat was comfortable and clean. I do not know if there are any lawful stipulations regarding how close your boats can get to the whales, but I was very disappointed that we were not able to get closer to the whales. I was hoping for some decent pictures of whales, but was unable to get any good shots. We saw "glimpses" of whale bodies, and saw many spouts. We saw a whale's tail twice, but never did get a good enough look at one to even see what a gray whale looks like. I just had high hopes of seeing a whale much closer up than we did.

My son was home on leave from Afghanistan and I was trying to line up activities for him that he would enjoy. Before joining the Army he was working at the San Francisco Zoo and had always had a special interest in all sorts of exotic animals and all of nature for that matter. But when I showed him the newpaper about the Orcas in the Bay and asked him if he'd like to go whale watching he was very excited to do so. Buying the tickets was a breeze finding the location was also very easy. Everyone was very curtious and when they found out that my son was home on leave from fighting in Afghanistan they went out of their way to thank him and make him feel welcome. We headed out for the Whale Watching trip on their beautiful 100' Princess. What a great boat. I had chose it because of it's size and the fact that my sister and her kids had joined us to be with my son and they are prone to sea sickness. My wife's son went with us as well and I think he also had a nice time. The day was absolutely fabulous. We did see a pod of about 5 or 6 gray whale but no Killer Whales. The trip as a whole was so enjoyable that we didn't even miss seeing the Orcas. We all had a wonderful time just being a family out on another adventure.

I live in Florida, I had to cancel our trip to California, as my daughter was in an auto accident. I e-mailed the cruise but never got a reply.I was hoping to use the tickets in the future as we are planning to come out in the fall.

We had an amazing whale watching trip. Not only did we see Gray Whales but the captain spotted a large pod of dolphin up ahead and said that we really had to head over. It was an experience of a life time! Surrounded by at least 1,000 dolphin. We even saw a pair of rare dolphin that were black with no dorsal fin. It was magical! The crew were fantastic too. Great enthusiastic naturalist that taught us a lot. All in all an A+!!!!!!

We enjoyed our trip, which was to celebrate our nine year old son's birthday, so much. We were able to see gray whales and then traveled to see a group of killer whales, including a mother and a baby. It was absolutely thrilling. My youngest son did get sick, but the crew was very helpful with that and it did not spoil the trip for any of us. The experience was well worth the effort and money. Our children have memories that will stay with them forever. So do I.

The Princess Monterey Whale Whatching cruise was ok, We didn't get close enough to see much of anything, all we could see was the mist from the blowhole of the whale. The weather was great! I just wish they would've gotten a little closer for the price you have to pay to go on the cruise. Overall, it was a nice boat ride.

...in the summer. We had reservations for a Saturday but they got cancelled due to windy weather so we got rescheduled for Sunday. The water was very bumpy on our trip thus making it hard to see Whales 'cause the boat kept going up and down like a titter-todder but we did see a couple of Gray Whales. I would recommend going in the summer and in the morning. We were on an afternoon trip (1:30). I heard that on the moring trips that there were a lot of whales out. I guess when the weather was nicer and the water not choppy. I was told that the Whales don't like to come up in choppy water. We will try again in the summer in the morning and hopefully I won't get sea sick next time around :-I The constant up and down motion from the swells were way too much for me so I got sick.

This is our second whale watch trip (first was in June last year). We saw gray whales this time (March 2-nd) as opposed to several different species (including dauphins) last year. My 10 years old daughter loved it! The crew is super-friendly, the views are magnificent. So even if you don't see any whales (which happens according to some of my friends) it definitely worth going... The only thing is to check the wind. If you get sick with big waves (and this is what we had this time) make sur you go in the morning and there is no much wind. M.

It was so much fun! I was just expecting to take a ride on a big boat out in the ocean, but it got better then that. We saw 4 gray whales. They would come up to breathe and throw there tails in the air. It was awesome!!! I absolutely loved the whole experience. I would recommend it to all my family and friends.

Me and my wife are from the local area and had never been on a whale watching cruise before and are so glad we did. I must first say that the staff at the Princess Monterey Whale Watching are top notch. The office staff is very knowledgeable on local conditions, weather, and how to deal with rough conditions. The captain was a real pro since the conditions turned a little rough but he kept the boat in total control. The crew constantly were checking on passengers to sea if they were doing ok or possibly getting seasick and were also checking in through the whole cruise to make sure the boat and restrooms were kept in a clean state. The nature biologist who narrated the crew was very funny and took the time to mingle with passengers during the cruise and to personally answer any questions. Overall excellent customer service, we will definitely be back!

Whale watching with Princess from Monterey was a lot of fun. The boat is large, the crew was helpful and the onboard naturalist was GREAT! The day was a little rough but we saw lots of spouts and a few whale backs. This is a fun adventure but you cant control the weather so always be prepared.
