Very nice boat; saw whales; stayed out at least the amount of time advertised; good narration during whale watching; helpful deck hand. Warning: the Pacific is often very rough; it was rough the day we went out - very large swells from a storm somewhere in the Pacific; I often become sea sick; however, I purchased some sea sickness pills the afternoon before from the excursion company; took one before bed and one about an hour before the cruise; no sea sickness problems at all.

The boat had plenty of room to watch from all sides. The crew pointed out Sunfish, Seals, Jellyfish, different types of sealife and of course Whales. The cabin had lots of room to sit inside if you wanted. The crew was very helpful. Had a little snack bar. On the dock the ticket\store had things you may need for sale, gloves, hats, sweatshirts if the weather is cold and dramamine. We could have just worn a wind breaker on our day, but it would be wise to dress warm with layers. I would recommend motion sickness patches or at least dramamine if you have not gone out to sea before. A few people became ill and it was calm waters.I have suffered from sea sickness before. Even slight effects of this ruin the rest of your day even after you leave the boat. The captain provided as many views as possible. We watched Humpbacks for about an hour or so and though we did not see breaching, we did see blow spouts, backs coming out of the water and tails. I will go again in the future and I really enjoyed the trip. I found that my digital pocket camera (My camera is a Nikon Coolpix) did not take the picture quite fast enough when I snapped it, maybe it was me? You only have a quick amount of time to get your pictures, the general sequence is they come up and blow , then a few seconds later they arch out of the water then disappear, then a few seconds later you get the tail shot. Timing my pictures was kind of on the need to get lucky, so shutter speed may be something too consider if you plan to take pics. Oh yea, IMPORTANT book you tickets in advance, I saw people being turned away at the counter because the trips were all booked up, I'm not sure if you can just walk up and get tickets we have never been able to in the past. And Zerve work very well for me. And bring your confirmation and e-ticket with you, the boarding guy seemed to appreciate that.

It wasn't what I'd expected.

I was in Hawaii a couple of years ago and saw the hump back whales coming out of the water and splashing back into the water, which is what I was expecting in Monterey. It was nothing like that. You wait for the "blow" and you see the back of the whale and at one point I saw a tail come out of the water before disappearing. There were no blue whales in sight. To be honest, I would have preferred to spend my $$$ elsewhere. They need to revise their directions, because if you plug in the address that's given you end up at this guard house and the guard gives you a map of how to really get there. Then when you get to where you're supposed to park, there's no direction there either. My husband walked up to a building on the right of the parking lot and those folks said that Monterey Princess should really do a better job with their directions because folks are asking them all the time where to go. Would really have loved to see a blue.

This was my first time going whale watching so I was extremely excited, and this trip definitely met & exceeded my expectations. The staff was extremely friendly and offered tons of help as well as tips when my boyfriend got sea sick! My only tip is to take motion sickness medicine to be on the safer side...

Was definitely worth it, saw a humpback and the captain followed it for a good 15 mins to get multiple opportunities to see it, and then saw 2 blue whales after that. Definitely need a good jacket to keep yourself warm.

We decided to get out of SF for the weekend and headed to Monterey. The whale watching tour was one of the highlights of our trip! Not only was the staff extremely friendly and informative but we saw a pod of whales and a basking shark on our tour! Highly reccomended way to spend 3 hours. . .

We were on the 9am trip last Saturday. On our trip we saw dolphins, a humpback whale, and a basking shark! Not to mention a lot of jellyfish, birds, and sea lions. The crew was knowledgeable and the boat was great - snacks, clean bathrooms, and a place to escape the cold air. It was chilly, so dress warmly! We had a wonderful time and will go again if we're in the area!

We were thrilled to see two blue whales and a humpback mother and her calf. The humpbacks were watched for at least ten minutes as they rolled, showed their tails and dove and we were close enough that everyone could see them.

the guide was very engergetic. I wish the skipper of the boat took into consideration both sides of the boat when whales where spotted, as a photographer, it was difficult to get positioned on the left side of the boat to get good pics of the whales.
