Whale Watching
Fri, Jan 8  1:30 PM gottschalksu Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The guide was very nice and knowledgable about the Whales and all sorts of animals we saw during the trip. We saw a group of gray whales and the boat stayed there long enough to see the whales several times. Make sure you dress in warm clothes and bring gloves, especially when you going to take pictures. All in All it was a fun trip and I can highly recommend the Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruise.

Informative & Friendly, wish we saw more whales

The large 100' boat helped make my 4 yr old son feel safe. The staff was friendly and prompt. The captain spoke clearly and informative over the loudspeaker about the whales and left ample time for picture taking as we waited for whales to surface. Only two things could have improved our experience. 1) Wished we had more opportunities to see whales. Nothing was spotted on our way back, saw only 5 whales that day -- which I knew was a possibility. Hoped we could have gone off shore a bit if it meant there was an improved chance at seeing Orcas or dolphins. Overall, we were happy to see what we could. 2) The onboard staff could have been more educational with visual aids on whale biology or ecology. Sounds of whale song could have been played, an onboard video of previously observed whales would be more useful than the snack bar, more facts of various whales would have helped, or explanations of behaviors or why whales migrate would be great. Overall, I would recommend the Princess Monterey to someone wanting a simple trip out and back. It was lacking in some areas, but we had a good time. Thanks.

Lots of Sights to See
Sat, Jan 2  9:00 AM siren1974 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We had a great time! We went on the 9am tour on Saturday, January 2nd. I think early is good. We were lucky only to have like 10 on the boat or so. The water was choppy due to the weather being windy but was so worth going out for a ride. We saw two gray whales and got great pics and videos. As soon as we spotted them we stayed in the area and watched them for a half hour to an hour. We saw sea lions on the way and some birds. It takes about a half hour to get out there and half hour to come back so really you are out there only for an hour to an hour and a half. I guess it depends on your luck and whether you see whales or not. We got lucky. This was a 2.5 hour ride which I think is good. I have been on 4 to 5 hours and seen nothing on another boat at another place. That was almost too long. Especially if you see nothing. Be sure to take dramamine and take some ginger candies with you. You can purchase them at the place where you check in. They even had free coffee, fruit, and muffins. I would advise not going on a full stomach. My poor boyfriend got sick. I get motion sickness easy but was lucky not too get sick. I think the 2.5 hours was good enough. Any longer and I may have gotten sick too. If you sit at the back of the boat the less sick you are likely to get. They do mention that to you as well.

We enjoyed the whalewatching excursion. The guide was very nice, funny and knowledgable about all sorts of animals. Our only wish was to have seen more whates! But, there's no controlling that aspect of the excursion.

Good activity

Even with a six year-old who was as much interested in the snacks as the wildlife, the trip was well worth it. The naturalist made sure to keep everyone's interest and the vessel was well-maintained and comfortable. Would be happy to do this again in humpback season.

We have seen greywhales and Risso´s dolphines pretty near. The boat came near and was standing there as long as the whales where there. Good! And the weather was excellent! But remember to tell the customers to bring gloves and caps on the trip.

The whale watching cruise was fun. We saw a few whale but from a far distance. I think the most interesting thing was being out there in the ocean. Overall it was fun and I would do it again.

WOULD DO THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR

WE HAD A FABULOUS EXPERIENCE ON THE OUTING. STAFF WAS VERY HELPFUL IN DESCRIBING THE RIZZO DOLPHINS SWIMING ALONG THE BOAT. WEATHER WAS SOMEWHAT STORMY AND YET THE PILOT STAYED OUT AS LONG AS HE COULD TO ENSURE THAT WE SAW WHALES. WILL MAKE THIS A YEARLY TRIP.

I'll ALWAYS go on the Princess Monterey
Sat, Dec 26, 09   10:00 AM pomgirl Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This is my second time on the Princess Monterey. The crew members are articulate, friendly and enthusiastic. The boat is VERY clean (restrooms are great!), and very comfortable. Though we saw no whales this time we saw tons of other sea life up close. It was a gray day just prior to raining but the boat ride was wonderful. I HIGHLY recommend this outfit.

Right off the bat u shud know they don't use any tech tools to track whales....so there is a good chance u won't see any. When this happens they shud let u ride free atleast one more time. But they don't. That said, the boat ride was good, the naturalist on board was very active and helpful with info. Wud have loved see mire than sunfish though...

Very satisfying

Saw some Dall's porpoise and a few grey whales, so I consider the trip to be very successful. The porpoise were uncharacteristically playful and accommodating, as were the whales. Wonderful spray and tail fluke action. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the boat (Princess) seemed well-maintained and clean. Very reasonable price... overall well worth the time and money.

Great Trip
Sun, Dec 20, 09   12:00 PM tsfissel Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The trip was great. We saw common and Risso dolphins, jellyfish, an ocean sunfish, and a couple of Orcas. The captain made a great effort to get us to the Orcas which he had heard about from some other boats that had come across them. The only downsides of the trip were the cost, which was higher than some of the other whale watching tours in that area but we chose them because their 12:00 tour worked best with the rest of our schedule that day, and then they had to postpone the tour for almost an hour so that they could get enough people to go. Overall it was worth the wait and the cost to see the Orcas.
