Whale watching

This excursion was pleasant enough. The captain and crew were well informed and pleasant. The boat was comfortable and we were fortunate to have excellent weather. We sighted 4 whales, but the boat didn't approach to closer than about 150 yards of them. Not having binoculars, the views were distant and scant. All in all, a pleasant experience, but have some binoculars to get a better look at the somewhat distant whales.

Cater to birders
Fri, Mar 19, 10   10:00 AM ddunford Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Unspecified
A whale watching trip is also an opportunity for birders. There are many of us and business would pick up considerably if at least one member of the crew knew who to identify the seabirds seen from the ship. The captain did point out the cormorants at the end of the Coast Guard wharf and did point out an albatross but the rest of the time was devoted to chasing whales.

Too Long, Too Sick, And Very Little Wildlife
Thu, Mar 18, 10   10:00 AM justinhaynes Male 40-49 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
This was nearly a 3hr trip where we spent over an hour travelling to the viewing spot. The weather was clear & dry and the water had a little swell but by the time we were looking for whales a number of people felt sick. We saw 3 killer whale fins a couple of times and a few dolphin fins once or twice while the boat bobbed around for 30 mins making people feel sicker. On the way back the boat was pretty silent as most people felt sick and a good number of them spent the return vomitting off the back. After countless boat trips this is the first I've felt seasick on, and clearly I wasn't alone - all my party felt the same and the looks and sounds from the other travellers seemed to agree.

Rough Day
The Pacific Explorer

It was very windy that day. The seas were rough, which I'm told is not the ideal conditions for whale watching. When our time was almost up we finally caught up to two Gray Whales. We caught 4 or 5 glimpses of them from a disatnce of 150 to 200 yards. Very hard to see but I guess this was considered a success by the crew as we were not offered any vouchers. I guess I was hoping for much more, like the websites lead you to believe. An overall disappointing experience.

Crew respects the ocean

Thankfully, this wasn't Disney nor Sea World. It's clear that these folks are are very aligned with Monterey Bay Aquarium outlook on ocean tourism.

My daughter chose this activity as part of her birthday celebration. We saw gray whales blowing and she was lucky enough to see the tail of one diving. We also saw a mola mola, which was a special treat. Lots of seabirds and otters to enjoy, too. The trip was enjoyable and included lots of factual information regarding Monterey Bay aquatic life that we didn't know before. Great activity!

Dolphins!

While we did see a few whales spouting but the true highlight of the trip was "running" with a herd of dolphin. It was the most amazing experience, literally hundreds of dolphin flying through the air and water along side our ship. We'll never forget it!

We did not see any whales at all. We were completely fogged in. It was a sunny day when we left and when we returned.

We dis see whales on the trip but they were kind of far. Then on our way back we saw about 50 dolphins just swimming around. They were like 10 yards away from the boat. It was a great experience and a great time to spend with your significant other

That's not exactly what you might expected
Sun, Feb 14, 10   1:30 PM nayaks Male 40-49 Local Family Without Children
saw a whale from a quite a distance with just whale blowing the air. Did not see the entire length of the whale. The boat could have gone little closer as compared to other boats watching the whale. Saw lots of Dolphins and Seals though. Don't expect like what you see on Discovery channel.
