Problem with required children's life jacket
Sun, Feb 17, 08   1:30 PM bizzlena Female 60-69 Unspecified Family With Children
We really enjoyed our whale trip with one exception. There weren't enough life jackets for a three year old. The one we had to use was too large and very uncomfortable for my grandson. It choked his neck because there was no strap to attach between his legs.

Unfortunately, I was unable to use my ticket. A last minute change of plans on my part prevented me from using the ticket. Will try again in the future. I did hear that others enjoyed the excursion.

Fascinating time seeing five whales!
Sun, Feb 17, 08   10:00 AM megandavid Female 50-59 Local Couple on a Date
It was a great time. The boat was large and not overcrowded. We were fortunate to see five whales, three close to our boat. It was pretty special. Our naturalist was fantastic, full of energy and tons of fascinating information about the whales and other marine mammals of the area. We learned a lot and had fun too!

Tour was ok, guide was great

The naturalist/biologist on our tour was excellent. She had worked with different marine mammal rehabilitation centers and shared a lot of interesting information about the animals we saw. If she wasn't on-board, the tour would not have been worth the money. We only saw a handful of grey whales, which were great, but we spent most of the time on a wild goose chase. Luckily, our boat reached the whales first! It's nature, so there are no guarentee's, but there sure was a lot of hype about what they saw the previous day. I think that contributed to our disappointment more than anything.

the trip

I thought the naturalist was excellent, very enthusiastic, bubbly, nice, informative, and generally a plus to the tour. Her microphone should be looked at as it was crackly at times and there were dead spots in her speaking. I would have loved to have gone upstairs to have the view of both sides of the boat, but that's ok, I ended up being on the right side. We did see a few blows and I did get two pictures of a tail, although pretty far away, but that was fine too. I was under the impression whales were bigger than what we saw, either that or we saw small whales, about 30'. I was however, annoyed that a "tip" jar was put out. The trip wasn't all that cheap and then was implied to leave a tip on top of that. It wasn't like I was waited on or treated in any special way, it was just a ride on a boat and there were enough of us on the whole boat, I'm sure, to pay for the gas and time of the crew and then some. So, I found that unnecessary. The ticket man and lady in the shack were extremely nice but the boy in the boat selling drinks and things seemed rude. He was too busy eating and talking with his mouth open and I found that a bit unpleasant. Would I go again, probably!! I would love another chance at seeing more of the whales and maybe a glimpse of a dolphin or two, that weren't out when we were. Thank you so much as on the whole I enjoyed myself.

We were looking for a light adventure and that's what we got, a not so harsh 2.4hr sea trip worth every penny. We saw one whale & many dolphins, we might come back this summer for the Humpbacks with our kids. The crew was GREAT! Thanks,Phil Concord,Ca.

Education in the most gorgeous classroom on Earth!

Our family's whale watching cruise aboard the Princess Monterey was enjoyable and very educational. The naturalist on board explained many things about the majesty of the gorgeous Monterey Bay and the many creatures which inhabit it or just pass through. The ship's captain worked hard so that we would be near enough to get a good look at the whales in the vicinity. This nice, large boat gave us an excellent ride, and the ones in our party who have experienced seasickness in the past came through with no problems at all. A fabulous trip enjoyed by all! Don't miss this one!

Not as exciting as past trips.

The new Princess boat is great. I am not seeing as many people sick. I do think that the smaller boats in our area had an advantage and were closer to the whales. I ask myself why is this? I would like to see if we can get closer as I am tempted to take a smaller boat if that could happen. I am aware that there are regulations and you have to stay within 100 yards? I didn't understand why all the other boats were so much closer? The biologist aboard is an asset. It really helps for newcomers. They also have an eye to spot whales quickly. They provide much needed information especially at the price charged for the trip. I do think the price is high and wonder if that is a factor with guest. I assume your guest would expect a great deal more for their money. I enjoy whale watching and always come back for more!

Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruise

2/08 My husband and I went on the whale watching cruise and really had a great time. The Captain made a strong effort to find whales, and did succeed. He also doesn't like to crowd in with other boats and sought whales on his own. He was informative and gave good information. It was chilly, so it is good to bring gloves and a warm coat and hat, if you like. We saw a sea otter, no dolphins. We went away very happy as first time whale watchers. Great experience. The crew were very attentive, and took care of the passengers who became ill on board, and were very watchful of people at all times. Don't bother renting the binoculars, they are very cheap and don't work. Bring your own, or don't even bring any. You can see just fine without.

Whale Watching

Even though the whales weren't initially visible, the captain made an effort to find them. The captain efforts afforded us sightings of several pods of whales. The captain also provided basic information about the types of whales, the particular whales that we would be viewing, and other pertinent information.

There is absolutely no way that the Captain and crew could state that we would see whales...It is not their fault that we didn't see anyj!!. The crew is very accommodating and helpful. We also received "Rain Checks" for another tour someday... Thank you to all the crew.....

Worth it

I am a 29 mother of 2 i took my girls and a cousin on the trip and think that it is an experience that everyone should try at least once, As for me I would like to take my children who are 6 & 8 when they are a little older. They only got to see the whales once but they enjoyed themselves. And thats what matters I drove up from fresno and for our family the drive was worth it and repeatable for future family activities.

Amazing

I booked the cruise with low expectations, as I had been on a whale watching cruise in Alaska once and the closest we got to seeing a whale was the tip of a humpback that was a good 500 yards away. Happily, my low expectations were blown out of the water, as we were able to watch several whales at close range. We also saw a large pod of dolphins (20+), got up close to the sea lions in the harbor and saw a couple of adorable sea otters. It was well worth the price of admission.
