Organized, Professional, Perfect

I chose this Whale Tour group after reading reviews on Zerve and other sites. We took the 10am tour on the Princess Monterey as it is the largest boat doing tours and the mornings tend to be calmer. The water was amazingly calm and out of the ~50 people on the boat I only saw one that had issues with sea sickness. For the tour itself the leader/Biologist Kathleen was amazing. She pulled the group together before the trip to get everyone excited and provided updates throughout the beginning of the trip when we were travelling through foggy weather and had not yet seen anything. We ended up travelling a long way (~16 miles) and saw a large group (20+) of humpback whales feeding and playing including a mother & calf. The long travel distance meant that we couldn't stay at the site for very long, but the ~30-45 minutes there were amazing and well worth the price of the trip. All of the boats out of this harbor naturally talk with one another about where the whales are, what the weather/conditions are like, etc. The advantages in the Princess Monterey's large size, the morning trip, and the great job by their biologist should not be overlooked as these will help to overcome potential sea sickness and will make an enjoyable trip even if there aren't a ton of whales around.

We had an incredible trip on the Princess Whale Tour. We went out to an area where 30 humpback whales where feeding. We are whales all around our boat. They where coming up to feed...we could even see into their mouths. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. I would highly recommend it.

We enjoy so much! Beautiful experience! we reccomend to everyone (except for people that suffering from seasick). Assistance on board very nice! Unfortunally we didn't understand so much from what the guide were saying on the speaker...but that was less important. We saw 3 or 4 times a blue whale with his baby emerge and submerge: your attention and your camera have to stay very concentrated. Distance from the boat to the whales 200 or 300 mt circa. Fantastic!!

The most exciting time of our trip!

This was my first weekend away with my boyfriend and we had an excellent time. I would recommend to everyone TAKE Dramamine, the sea sick medicine. Boat ride was a bit rough, big waves on a beautiful day! I took 1 pill an hour before we left and felt fine. Many others got a bit queasy and you don’t want to find out the hard way!! We saw 80 humpback whales, a momma and baby, 4 blue whales and lots of sea otters. There were ppl of all ages and the guide was a lot of fun, very knowledgeable, and it obviously loved what she did. I would suggest take snacks, they do have snacks and water on the boat but bring munchies if you can. Don’t drink too much water thou. The bathroom was cramped and on rough water you don’t wana fall in. lol I would definitely recommend this trip for any age and any group of ppl!!

Cold but good

We saw two humpback whales feeding for about in hour. The boat was fine, although it was delayed starting out. This meant we had to wait for longer than we'd have wanted. The marine biologist on board was enthusiastic and reasonably knowledgeable.

We all had a great time

Though the boat was smaller than I had expected, but was not overly crouded, about 25 guest. The boat left 30 minutes late, which was fine because the earlier group that left at 9am didn'd get to see much due to fog. I would suggest the early afternoon trips, such as the one we were on @ 12:30 its warmer going out and not as cold coming back as the later trips must be. Now the best for last, and the point of the trip to view the whales. We saw several Humpback whales, a pod of Dolphins and the best of all was the awsome Blue Whale we saw, though I wish we could have gotten closer to the whales for a better look, I understand that this could stress those magnificant creatures. We finished the day with a little shopping and a great steak, prawns and of course clam chowder dinner, which was a very reasonable price.

Not for the easily-nauseated

If you are the type of person who cannot easily read in the car without getting sick then this is not the boat ride for you. Even though we were fortunate to see some Blue Whales and Humpback Whales it was hard to enjoy ourselves with the constant bobbing up and down of the boat.

We Were WOWED by the Whales
Sat, Aug 8  10:00 AM KenNichols Male 60-69 Combination Family With Children
My two sons and their wives and two grandchildren had a wonderful day on the Princess Monterey. We saw several(18-20) Hump Back Whales, several species of Dolphins, a LARGE turtle and many sea lions on our trip out and into the harbor. It was cool and several people were a bit nauseous. But we all agreed it was a great day not with standing.

A whale of a good time!

Our family took the whale watching trip while touring in Monterey one weekend. We had a great time. We saw lots of dolphins which was great fun. The crew did a great job trying to make everyone feel comfortable. There was a marine biologist on board who gave us lots of interesting information about sea life, the mammals we would be seeing, Monterey etc. We had to travel pretty far out to finally see the Humpback whales. I had imagined that we would see the whole whale, but we did see the tale come out of the water, the spout and definitely got a feeling for how large these mammals are. HUGE. It was worth the trip and I would highly recommend that people do this. NOTE: I also recommend that people take a motion sickness pill in advance as it will make your journey so much more comfortable. If you have any doubt, take the pill. Many people on the boat were unsettled by the swells and the motion and thus had to sit or lie down a lot of the time. My kids faired well on the boat but at one point they were very queasy and had to sit in the back for awhile before they could get up and walk around again. The feeling came and went fairly quickly. But if you can avoid it, do. Because you could easily miss the best parts if you are not feeling well.

Perfect Day to go Whale Watching
Sat, Aug 8  10:00 AM yleung Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I absolutely enjoyed the whole experience!!! For my birthday, I decided to go whale watching for the first time. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to see that much. Who would of thought I chose the perfect day to go out into the bay. Our group saw close to 100 dolphins and 30-50 humpback whales throughout the whole trip! What made the trip even better was that we even saw a Leatherback turtle! We were told this was a really rare sighting and we got to experience it! Thank you Princess Monterey for such a special day!

I probably expected to see whales breaching like those seen on TV. But we did see whales come to the surface and that was exciting, even though. It was a pleasant trip and my family had a great time.
