Whale watching more like fog watching
The Pacific Explorer

A heavy fog was in the ocean the day we went out. We sailed right into it and saw nothing. Should be refunds prior to going out if the weather is questionable, but the attitude seemed to be like the old fishing guide after a day of not seeing any fish, the guide says " well they were really biting yesterday!!" I know it's buyer beware, but next time, we'll wait to make the reservation until the actual day of the event to make sure we maximize our weather chances. A real waste of $90.

We had a giant blue whale rise within 50 feet of the boat. Much of its body and tail came completely out of the water. It must have been at least 80 feet long. We also followed a pair of humpbacks approx. 50 yards from the boat; unfortunately they were continuously moving away from the boat. These 35-40 foot long whales seemed small compared to the blue whale. Despite the cold weather and lots of fog, it was a great trip!

Exciting, but also cold, wet, and choppy

So much fun when we were sighting dolphins and whales. Absolutely thrilling. But the morning was overcast and foggy, weather was windy, and the seas were choppy. Everyone on board was very excited when sightings were made, but there were times when a fair number of passengers were in the cabin trying to get out of the wind or napping. Would I go again? Absolutely!

The boat trip was great. Didn't see whales up close but they certainly tried to.

My husband and I really enjoyed our experience! Whale watching was always something I wanted to do but never was able to afford the opportunity or had the financial means to do so. Having just received a clear report that I was cancer free, my beloved husband surprised me with this life long dream. To be able to see a humpback whale and her calf was amazing. The gentleman at the front desk was very professional and nice and our guide was very knowledgeable. Thank you for such a wonderful day. We learned every outing is new and we can't wait to come back and have another adventure.

MY DAUGHTER WANTED TO GO WHALE WATCHING FOR HER 25TH BIRTHDAY IN MONTEREY, CA. THAT MORNING MONTEREY WAS VERY FOGGY & COLD. THE MAN, WHO WE CHECKED IN WITH WAS NOT SURE (AS THEY DON'T GUARENTEE) WE WOULD SEE A WHALE. HE WAS SURE FOR DOLPHINS BUT NOT FOR THE WHALE. WE ALL COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE ELATED BECAUSE WE SAW FROM A DISTANCE BLUE WHALE, & IT WAS BEAUTIFUL! ON THE WAY BACK, WE ALSO SAW BLUE DOLPHIN. WHAT A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY IT WAS FOR MY DAUGHTER. CAN'T WAIT TO GO OUT IN THE SUMMER WITH MY MOTHER IN LAW FROM GEORGIA WHEN SHE COMES OUT FOR THE SUMMER. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AS WELL. WELL WORTH THE PRICE. BLESSINGS TO YOU ALL, ANNETTE MYERS

Most of the trip was getting to and from our destination. Not enough time to really see anything.

The boat was very clean, the crew very friendly and professional, the boat was out 3.5 hours. We saw 3 Humpback whales, many adult and baby Dolphins, Sea lions, and Albatros. It was very fun and the time passed very quickly. We got lots of great photos. The narration thruout the tour was great. We want to go again out next trip. We had a great time

There are several companies offering whale watching cruises at Monterey and I tried this one simply because the price was right and there was a cruise available at the right time. However the experience was great; the staff were all friendly and knowledgeable and we had plenty of opportunities to view humpback whales at distances of several hundred yards -- close enough to get excellent photos, which was my objective. All in all, an excellent experience -- highly recommended.

Excellent experience to be avle to see whales in their natural environment. Boat took us about 20 mins out to sea and we wrer able to see Humpbacks and Killer Whales. The crew were able to keep us informed with their amazing enthusiasm and love for their job. Thoroughly recommend to anyone. Only warning, bring some wet wipes and mints in case you get sea sick, which was common.

We were in Monterey celebrating our 33rd wedding anniversary with no firm plans of what to do. We found two whale-watching tour brochures at our hotel, but the concierge recommended Princess. I went online to check prices expecting the tour to be at least $75 for the 2.5 hr tour. To my delight it was only $39.95+tax so we made two reservations. The reservation process was very easy to use. The boatride/tour was a delight. The marine biologist onboard was lively and interesting to listen to and we did see LOTS of whale and dolphin activity, as well as marine birds. Safety onboard was emphasized and lots of life jackets in various sizes were easily available. Snacks & soft drinks were available on board also. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves being out on the water and seeing marine life.

Excellent experience! The crew and the ship were as expected from a review of the website and other passenger comments. My only suggestion is to take your own binoculars. Enjoy a great few hours.

FANTASTIC WHALE WATCHING EXPERIENCE

EXPERIENCING A WHALE WATCHING EXCURSION WAS A LIFE LONG GOAL FOR ME AND I FINALLY WAS ABLE TO FULFILL MY DREAM. WE BOTH ENJOYED OUR TRIP ON THE PRINCESS MONTEREY. THE TOUR GUIDE WAS VERY INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL TO GUIDE AND INFORM US WHEN THERE WERE SITINGS TO OBSERVE. WE FEEL THAT WE WERE EXTREMELY FORTUNATE TO HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE SO MANY WHALES, DOLPHINS AND SEVERAL OTHER TYPES OF MAMMALS, BIRDS , JELLY FISH ETC. MOTHER NATURE GAVE US A GREAT SHOW! WE CAME HOME AND BRAGGED TO ALL OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY ABOUT OUR WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AND SHOWED OFF ALL THE GREAT PICTURES THAT WERE CAPTURED ON OUR TRIP AND NOW THEY ALL WANT TO JOIN US FOR OUR NEXT WHALE WATCHING TRIP. WE WILL DEFINATELY PLAN FOR ANOTHER TRIP MAYBE IN THE SPRINGTIME SO THAT WE CAN SEE OTHER TYPES OF WILDLIFE THAT MIGRATE DURING THIS TIME PERIOD. THANK YOU FOR THE WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

Saw two blues and one humpback in two hours. Was Ok but we were not very close and could only see blues' backs as they swam plus some blowhole spray action. Humpback swam close and that was good. Overall it was a little dissappointing but in fairness you never know what you are going to get when you go because there are no guarantees. Boat crew was friendly and boat was safe and stable. Kind of neat experience that was worth doing once.
