Fantastic Trip/Once in a Life Time Experience
Sat, Aug 30, 08   12:00 PM maldonadorrm Female 40-49 Local Group of Friends
This trip was awesome. Took my 8yr old. Saw Humback Whales, came right up to the boat. Also saw dolphins and sea otters. My daughter was excited and said this was the best trip she had ever taken. Very hard to take pictures cause the boat was rocky. I wouldn't take younger than 6 yrs old, not recommended for the quezzy stomachs, my daughter didn't start feeling bad till the end of trip. So she was able to enjoy the boat ride out, she said it felt like a rollercoaster. Once the whales were sited the boat stopped and it was like they knew we were there, cause they came right up to us, went under the boat, did flips, it was the greatest show, ever! Then the dolphins showed up and were racing right along the boat. That topped the show. I asked our group of friends what best part of trip was....Response: when the whales came up to the boat, when the dophins showed up, when you could see the huge tales as the whales were going under.........the last response was from a friend with a quezzy stomach, her best part was when she got off the boat. LOL I Give this a four star attraction. Would I do it again, once is enough but I will never forget the experience. Ritz

no whales and hardly any commentary

Great concept and of course I understand that there can never be any guarantee of whale sightings, but I was left feeling a bit flat from the lack of commentary on the trip. 10 minutes into the trip there was a sighting of dolphins, but after that we just headed out and then back again (3hrs in total) with no further commentary after the dolphins, no explanation of why we were looking in that particular area, no information on the whales we were looking for and no comments on the likelihood of finding any whales. With a marine biologist on board I was expecting a more informative trip. I'd do it again, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too high beforehand.

Whale watching more like fog watching
The Pacific Explorer

A heavy fog was in the ocean the day we went out. We sailed right into it and saw nothing. Should be refunds prior to going out if the weather is questionable, but the attitude seemed to be like the old fishing guide after a day of not seeing any fish, the guide says " well they were really biting yesterday!!" I know it's buyer beware, but next time, we'll wait to make the reservation until the actual day of the event to make sure we maximize our weather chances. A real waste of $90.

Excellent tour! Very informative.

This was my first experience whale watching and I didn't know if I'd actually see any whales. I couldn't have picked a better day because we ended up following a family of female orcas and a humpback whale. I took my 8 year old nephew who also loved the tour. The marine biologist on board was engaging and funny. Well worth the price for a 3 hour excursion.

Great whale watching experience!

My son and friend and I took this tour on St. Patrick's Day this year, and really enjoyed it. Not only do you get to see seals, dolphins and whales (we saw gray whales, but missed out on the Humpbacks, as they had just started to be spotted a couple of days prior, for the season), but you also get a very relaxing and scenic boat ride! The day we went out, the swells were rather high, so a few people turned a little green and got sick, so a word of warning to anyone who is prone to sea sickness...take your sea sickness medication prior to the trip! It was beautiful weather and the captain and crew were all very friendly and often checked the passengers to make sure they were all right and comfortable. Would definitely recommend this tour!

interesting experience

Overall good experience. Staff were nice. Easy to get to. Wasn't a single wow moment. Did see whales surfacing to breath, smacking tails and fins on water, jumping out of water but these were mostly all great distances away. Sometimes 1/2 mile by my estimation. There were two instances where a blue whale surfaced maybe 30-40 yd from boat which was the closest exciting event but all you could see was it's back and blowhole. The trouble I see is that the sightings are so brief. If you aren't looking in the right area by the time you turn around to look the animal has gone under again. If you are lucky it'll pop up again in the same place but most of the time it's completely random. Including myself several persons got seasick. I think two people vomited. Many of us were so miserable we were standing fixed on the deck and not really aggressively looking for whales. I don't think this reflects poorly on Princess Monterey, they are at the mercy of the ocean and the whims of the animals. I did it because I think this is a unique experience we all should do in our lifetime. I don't think I'll do it again because of the seasickness and the underwhelming sightings. A seaworld or aquarium trip would yield more exciting moments.

Nice Boat Ride But You Hardly See The Whales
Sat, Mar 27, 10   1:30 PM mahhill Male 50-59 Local Family With Children
You get a better idea about marine life if you go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We saw gray whales blow their stack, but you are really to far away to see much of the whale. Gray whales do not jump out of the water. So, you get a couple of brief sightings but you never get the chance to see a living whale any where near close-up. A waste of money. The boat ride is fun because one goes up and down on the ocean and you get sprayed as the boat goes through the waves.

The trip was all around great. We had a wonderful time and the crew was very knowledgable. We're considering doing it again in May to see the Hump Back Whales. Thanks so much for a wonderful trip.

It was a lot of fun, but more time would be great. Also an option for a heated viewing would be nice. It was very cold that day.

Great Crew!

This was our first whale watching excursion in Monterey and when I went online to research, there were several outfits to choose from. I relied heavily on the comments made by others when making my decision and boy am I glad I went with Princess Monterey Whale Watching. We had a fantastic time, saw lots of gray whales and even some jellyfish. I guess it didn't hurt that for a February morning the weather was just beautiful! But I must say that the crew was top notch too. From check-in right up til the end, they were courteous, professional and knowledgable, we couldn't have asked for a better trip. Thanks for a great time, hope to come back again soon!

we had a long, long ride on the boat just to see a litte, little bit of the backs of two humpback whales. We also saw some dolphins, but near the Golden Gate Bridge we have had better views before...

I live in Florida, I had to cancel our trip to California, as my daughter was in an auto accident. I e-mailed the cruise but never got a reply.I was hoping to use the tickets in the future as we are planning to come out in the fall.

Just the right length (3 hours) to see the whales and the dolphins. Well organized, enough information during the trip to better understand what we were looking at.
