The weather was not the best for whale watching. It was very cold and overcast. But we did see several grey whales. I should have brought a better jacket, hat and gloves to protect against the cold wet air. I would have liked to learn more about the whales, but if there was a presentation on the intercom it was not broadcast into the interior of the boat where I was hiding out from the cold wind.
Rating: 5 Problem with required children's life jacket

We really enjoyed our whale trip with one exception. There weren't enough life jackets for a three year old. The one we had to use was too large and very uncomfortable for my grandson. It choked his neck because there was no strap to attach between his legs.

Unfortunately, I was unable to use my ticket. A last minute change of plans on my part prevented me from using the ticket. Will try again in the future. I did hear that others enjoyed the excursion.
Rating: 5 Fascinating time seeing five whales!

It was a great time. The boat was large and not overcrowded. We were fortunate to see five whales, three close to our boat. It was pretty special. Our naturalist was fantastic, full of energy and tons of fascinating information about the whales and other marine mammals of the area. We learned a lot and had fun too!
Rating: 3 Tour was ok, guide was great

The naturalist/biologist on our tour was excellent. She had worked with different marine mammal rehabilitation centers and shared a lot of interesting information about the animals we saw. If she wasn't on-board, the tour would not have been worth the money. We only saw a handful of grey whales, which were great, but we spent most of the time on a wild goose chase. Luckily, our boat reached the whales first! It's nature, so there are no guarentee's, but there sure was a lot of hype about what they saw the previous day. I think that contributed to our disappointment more than anything.

I thought the naturalist was excellent, very enthusiastic, bubbly, nice, informative, and generally a plus to the tour. Her microphone should be looked at as it was crackly at times and there were dead spots in her speaking. I would have loved to have gone upstairs to have the view of both sides of the boat, but that's ok, I ended up being on the right side. We did see a few blows and I did get two pictures of a tail, although pretty far away, but that was fine too. I was under the impression whales were bigger than what we saw, either that or we saw small whales, about 30'. I was however, annoyed that a "tip" jar was put out. The trip wasn't all that cheap and then was implied to leave a tip on top of that. It wasn't like I was waited on or treated in any special way, it was just a ride on a boat and there were enough of us on the whole boat, I'm sure, to pay for the gas and time of the crew and then some. So, I found that unnecessary. The ticket man and lady in the shack were extremely nice but the boy in the boat selling drinks and things seemed rude. He was too busy eating and talking with his mouth open and I found that a bit unpleasant. Would I go again, probably!! I would love another chance at seeing more of the whales and maybe a glimpse of a dolphin or two, that weren't out when we were. Thank you so much as on the whole I enjoyed myself.

We were looking for a light adventure and that's what we got, a not so harsh 2.4hr sea trip worth every penny. We saw one whale & many dolphins, we might come back this summer for the Humpbacks with our kids. The crew was GREAT! Thanks,Phil Concord,Ca.

Our family's whale watching cruise aboard the Princess Monterey was enjoyable and very educational. The naturalist on board explained many things about the majesty of the gorgeous Monterey Bay and the many creatures which inhabit it or just pass through. The ship's captain worked hard so that we would be near enough to get a good look at the whales in the vicinity. This nice, large boat gave us an excellent ride, and the ones in our party who have experienced seasickness in the past came through with no problems at all. A fabulous trip enjoyed by all! Don't miss this one!
Rating: 4 Not as exciting as past trips.

The new Princess boat is great. I am not seeing as many people sick. I do think that the smaller boats in our area had an advantage and were closer to the whales. I ask myself why is this? I would like to see if we can get closer as I am tempted to take a smaller boat if that could happen. I am aware that there are regulations and you have to stay within 100 yards? I didn't understand why all the other boats were so much closer? The biologist aboard is an asset. It really helps for newcomers. They also have an eye to spot whales quickly. They provide much needed information especially at the price charged for the trip. I do think the price is high and wonder if that is a factor with guest. I assume your guest would expect a great deal more for their money. I enjoy whale watching and always come back for more!
