On this trip there were dophins and whales and the crew chose to see the dolphins first just in case they were just passing by and the whales were regulars, so we had time to enjoy one and then the other. |

Besides the usual seals, sea otters, jellyfish and seabirds, we saw a humpback whale and her baby. They didn't breach, so we saw mostly their backs, and their tails when they went for a deep dive. Still, we watched them for about 45 minutes. The boat ride is pleasant, but I do suggest that anyone who may get seasick should try using Bonine ahead of time. My husband get seasick, but he took the pills the night before and the morning of, and he was just fine, in spite of some people getting kind of queasy on our trip. No marine biologist (it was thanksgiving) but the captain knows his stuff and provided us with a lot of information.
Also, it is not apparent anywhere on this site, or on signs at the boat, but you need to exchange your e-ticket that you get from here for paper tickets in the shack before boarding starts. We did not know that, waited half an hour, only to have to struggle back through the crowd behind us to get back on the pier to exchange our ticket. Other than that, the trip was pleasant and worth doing. |

This was my second time whale watching with this company.
The people are always very informative and go out of their way to answer all questions. The boat is clean and you feel safe when abroad.
Thanksgivings day the weather was beautiful. The seals, otters, birds and especially the whales gave me many opportunities for some great photos.
Can't wait to plan my next trip. |

I HAVE BEEN ON MANY WHALE EXURSIONS OVER THE YEARS AND THIS ONE IS NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THOSE. THE BOAT STAYED IN ONE SPOT FOR OVER AND HOUR TAKING ON BIG SWELLS CHASING TWO WHALES. ALL OF THE WHALE TRIPS I HAVE BEEN ON, I HAVE NEVER STAYED IN THE SAME SPOT FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR.
THE BOAT WAS NICE AND IT WAS A GREAT DAY AND I DID SEE 4 WHALES ON THE 3 HOUR TOUR WHICH WAS GREAT. COULD I HAVE SEEN MORE?? I THINK SO.... |

The trip far exceeded my expectations. There was plenty of space in the boat with room to see easily when the whales were nearby. Our hopes were not raised too high by the 'naturalist' who accompanied us, which was probably wise but we were lucky to sight whales blowing within about 10 minutes of setting out. I appreciated the way the boat then stayed in the area, just idling and keeping close, giving us all time to see the whales come up to breath on several occasions. Very memorable. |

A splendid 3-hour cruise! From early check-in through disembarking the vessel, the whole crew was nothing short of happy, helpful and professional. The Deck Hands offered advice on avoiding getting sea sick, and were great around our small children. The Captain's 30+ years of experience was obvious as he skillfully navigated the bay, all-the-while describing the various whales and creatures we might encounter. Though the swells were pretty big that day, the Captain did well in considering the comfort of his passengers throughout the trip's entirety. The vessel, PRINCESS MONTEREY, was clean and comfortable with plenty of seating and handrails! I'd definitely recommend and go back with friends or family!
Finally, if you're prone to getting sea sick and forget your Dramamine, they have ginger candies ("Gin-Gins" as seen on Mythbusters) for a donation. My kids, however, hated their taste and only got 1 candy down (suggested serving size is 6 candies). Though I don't get sea sick, I ate one of the Gin-Gins to see what was "so horrible" about them...nothing at all unless gingerbread cookies are "so horrible." Silly kids... |
