Went whale watching for the first time with my husband while visiting Monterey. Decided to play it safe and went on the 100ft Princess of Monterey for a 3 hr trip that cost only $40 each. The guide was very enthusiastic and provided useful info about ocean sea life especially the whales! Saw several humpback whales very near the boat! They happened to be surface feeding. You're not guaranteed to see wHales but that's not the tour's fault Took Dramamine half hour before your And that helped a lot (the crew is very helpful if you're sensitive) becAuse the ocean is not as smooth as it looks. Be sure to weAr warm clothing. Very much enjoyed it! |

Since I was a child I've always wanted to see whales in person. I lived on an Atlantic coast island for 10yrs and am not easily impressed by sea life (dolphins & sharks). I thought it was well worth the money for a chance encounter with a whale. Boy was I impressed! We saw at least 50 humpback whales in close proximity to the boat. The afternoon tour also saw killer whales! It was amazing. The guide, Catherine, was very enthusiastic & obviously loved her job. The crew was very helpful & snapped many photos of the whales too. This tour is a must-do for your visit to Monterey. You will not be disappointed. |

great staff but the website is deceiving, the whales are not as closed as they are shown on the website pictures. I wish we could go on the top deck for a better view of the whales. |

The crew on the boat was great. Just as promised, we seen several whales and what an amazing experience it was. I would highly recommend this trip. My one and only word of advice is... take your dramamine! I do not have a problem with motion sickness BUT I was seasick less than 2 hours into the trip. The crew on the boat promised me and all the other with the same problem that once we turned around and headed back to the shore we would feel better and that was exactly how it ended. Although being sick is not the way anyone wants to spend their day, it was a once in a lifetime deal for me to get that close to the whales and I'm glad I did it. |

Sick the Entire 2-1/2 Hour Trip

Personnel should go through the seasick factor BEFORE selling the tickets. It was obvious that most people get sick on this activity. I heard a man in the office, before the trip, speaking to an employee (who was our tour guide) who to specifically to ask about specific conditions. So all of this could have been done BEFORE the tour. The tour guide then did just that and went into detail about where to be on the boat if you are sick. During the boat ride a tour guide came along the boat with a cleaning push broom and afterwards when we were sitting at a table at a restaurant looking out on the boat we just left and they were hosing off the back of the boat. and cleaning up vomit. Now most of the people on our tour were sick, horribly sick. It ruined our fun and we will never again go on your tour and never recommend it to anyone without talking about how sick everyone was. I don't know if it was the way the boat charged out to the spot where the whales were feeding or how he was steering, but....... |

Girl Scout Troop 553 from Carson City, Nevada had a great time whale watching. They paid for their trip, to Monterey, by selling Girl Scout cookies. We had a lot of fun even if a couple of the girls felt some seasickness. The crew was very helpful. Thanks again! |

I'd recommend this to everyone who's even remotely intrigued or fascinated by nature and animals. It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and yes you DO see whales pretty close! It's extremely important that you eat and drink as little as possible before the cruise otherwise you'll be stuck at the back throwing up continuously. Not fun at all. I skipped breakfast that day and didn't even need to take any medication for motion sickness so that was great. This is something I'd definitely recommend to others but I don't think I would go back more than once or twice--I'm pretty sure it gets repetitive after a while. If you're in the area and have never done whale watching before, then this is a must-do! We went in early June and saw many humpbacks and even a blue whale! |

The experience was alright. Yes, saw some humpback whales and that's it. We went @ 9am. It was too wavy, chappy, and freezing cold. Most of the people got sea sick. It would be a better experience if it wasn't like that. |

I've never written a review before, but I was so impressed with my experience I felt compelled to break that habit. I've been on a number of whale watch cruises on Monterey Bay, but this is the first one where I felt as though the crew placed safety above just getting more people on the boat. The waves were pretty intense, but the captain kept the boat as steady as possible. The naturalist was experienced and knowledgeable, the crew was respectful and on alert the entire time. I will be going back with them again! |
