My husband and I really enjoyed our whale watching cruise. First of all, allow yourself some time to check out the warf area. It's really quaint. There are great shops and plenty of restaurants to choose from if you're hungry. When we first arrived, we were a little dismayed because there were about 50 junior high students taking the same cruise. The Captain assured us that we (all the adults) would be let on board first to claim our spots and then he would let the kids on. They were all sweet kids who were very excited at first and then unfortunately a large number of them got a little queasy and were very quiet for the rest of the trip. The weather was great that day, however, it's smart to dress more warmly than you think you'll need. The wind is chilly especially on the ears! Our guide was very energetic and very informative. We learned alot about sea life and birds as well! Our cruise lucked out because we were able to find 5 whales including one that was quite rare. Our boat communicated with other boats in the area who were also looking for whales so we were all working together to find them. The boat rocks quite a bit so don't plan on bringing an elaborate lunch. They serve snacks ie; popcorn etc. so if you're hungry they have something to tide you over. I would recommend this cruise for older kids, adults, couples etc. It takes some patience to find the whales so smaller children might get bored. All in all, it's a great experience for people who are looking for something unique to do on vacation. |

I can't say enough about the owner and crew of The Princess Monterey Whale Watching. They were awesome with us and our kids. The trip itself was everything and more then what we wanted. Within 5 minutes of leaving the dock, we ran into a HUGE pod of dolphins. We got amazing pictures and that made the trip worth it but that was just the start. We later found a few humpback whales out playing and even had some breaching no more then 100 yards from the boat. We had such a great view that the captain even let us stay out a bit longer then normal. This trip was worth every penny and I would recommend them to anybody.
Thanks for the great trip!

Detailing the whereabouts of the pick up point would have been really useful. I was in Monterey for the first time without a car. I needed to know that I could walk to the boat, or if I'd have to get a taxi, and how long it would take - before I spent my money. I took a chance and the boat turned out to be 5 mins walk from my hotel.
The whale watching shop had binoculars for hire. I took some but didn't need them. They also had some sea sickness tablets which I didn't buy and didn't need. There were a couple of people on the boat that probably should have bought some.
I'm glad I took the chance. The trip was really great. The guide was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and funny. The advice about positions on the boat where it would be more steady was appreciated and I picked a position mid way along the port side. I was surprised how cold it was out on the sea. You need to dress really warmly even though it was pleasantly warm on land. There was plenty of room to move around the boat to stay in the sun. I didn't feel the need to go inside but I understand that there were hot and cold drinks, etc.
I saw sealions (in the harbour), dolphins, an albatross, another bird which I can't remember (the one that spits blood from its eyes), loads of jelly fish and, of course whales. The first time I'd seen any of these in the wild.
The trip lasted longer than the two and a half hours I was expecting - more like four hours - because we spent time watching a whale that turned out to be unpredictable and elusive so we travelled further to find more. The guides were determined that we would get a better sighting than the single whale provided.
The boat was comfortable, well built, powerful and gave a welcome feeling of safety.
If I ever get to go to Monterey again then I'll be back whale watching at the earliest opportunity. |

The ship and facilities were fine. The choice to take people out when the weather was as bad as it was was irresponsible. Everyone in my party and many others were sick. The boat was rocking so hard that I fell down and my friend feel twice. Each time because we were trying to get to the back of the boat to throw up. Only after falling down did they realize they had to stop the boat for us to move.
We should have taken our cue from the other tour groups that had closed down.
That was dangerous and I can speak well of a group that would that that kind of change with peoples lives.

Unfortunately it was raining that morning, but :just bad luck. The staff was very friendly. We were happy to see 2 humpback whales,a group of dolphins and of course sea lions.I wish we would have been able to get closer to the whales, but the staff told us,that they never hunt the whales,it is on them to come closer. And I think that's absolutely o.k. and should be so!
I really recommend this trip and Princess Monterey Whale Watching ! |

This was a very pleasant experience; the captain provided 'smooth sailing' as we sailed out to locate the whales. Once we saw the whales, the captain did his best to provide the best views and spent a little extra time on the water so we could get the most from the experience...it was wonderful and well worth the travel time and cost.
The only negative we would like to point out is that the female that narrated during the trip was too loud and talked way too much. Her voice began to grate on our nerves after awhile and we were happy when she took a break. She was pleasant and you could tell she loved her job, but we found it hard to enjoy our thoughts with her voice blaring in our ears.
Otherwise, this was an exceptional adventure and we are glad we participated. |

The trip was very fun and we did see whales and Dolphins. The sea's were really ruff that day, but the experience it self was great. I would recommend Princess, but if you get sea sick, may want to go when the seas are calm |

If you are subject to motion sickness do not go. |

Thank you for the opportunity to express myself on this adventure. In all fairness to you and the whale watching boating firm I can not give a complete nor fair account of my experience. As I spent the majority of the trip chumming the fish. |
