Great Experience!

A friend of mine came to town for the weekend and we took the earliest trip on the Princess. I am a local and have always wanted to go, but her visit gave me a good excuse to go without the kids. It was a wonderful trip! We saw humpback whales and dolphins along with the regular Monterey Bay sea creatures (sea lions, seals, etc..). We spent quite a bit of time out near the feeding grounds for the whales and saw them surface a number of times. It was amazing and luckily, we booked our trip on a day with some of the nicest weather we've had in months! It was great! It is imperative that you wear layers if you plan to stay out on the deck for the trip out into the bay. The temp was in the 70's on shore, yet on the way out, I wore a shortsleeve shirt, sweatshirt and jacket with hood. It was chilly! If you stayed inside the cabin, I'm sure you could get away with less layers, but the temp definitely dropped about 10 degrees out on the bay. Regardless, it was a great trip and I would recommend it to anyone - even those with children - as long as they were at least 5 or 6 years old. Good time! :)

A bumpy ride but well worth it.

The ride out was quite bumpy due to really choppy water... but the one humpback whale we saw was well worth the trip out. The guide gave lots of info on the way out and did point out that the ride was bumpier than usual. The whale was also more actively moving than usual and we ended up chasing kind of in a circle. It was cool that two other boats were also coordinating in spotting the whale's location. In the end we did see the whale come up about three to four times... enough to get at least one picture. I'm sure if the trip was made in the middle of a season instead of in between there would have been a higher chance of seeing more whales. All in all a good trip and I would definitely recommend and go again.

We took my mother in law with my husband and I a for Mothers Day gift and we all had the best time possible. The whales were great and the ride was ok. The captian was imformative and polite. He followed the whales as they played and splashed. We got some great pictures and memories of a life time. Some of the boats didn't go out that day because of the wind but our captain got a heads up on a sighting and told us of the wind and I would have not missed it for anything. It was a wonderful experience.

What excitement!

Lets start out by saying had this trip been successful, we would give 5 stars. We had planned this excursion for over a year. Wanted to pick the best time to go, not too cold, not too hot (u get the pic) We scheduled our tickets on-line, then drove from SF to Monterey. The boat was nice, the crew was skillful, friendly and helpful. The days preceeding our trip had produced a lot of whale sightings, so of course we were very excited and hopeful. Unfortunately, the dreaded F O G arrived as we entered the deep waters to see the whales, so we didn't get to see any. This company was honest and gracious enough to give us tickets for another day. Since these tickets have no expiration date,we plan on going again when we head from the atlantic coast to the west. So don't hesitate, buy a ticket on The Princess Monterey, you have nothing to lose. Monterey and nearby Carmel are beautiful places to visit. There are wonderful photo opportunities coming from the north or south. Plan on a few days!

We had made the long trip out and thought it was going to be a no show event when there they were. A large group of Killer whales. They surfaced often and a few of the younger ones breached out of the water. There was one large male with the group. It was terrific! Dress warmly it's cold out on the water. Experience of a lifetime.
