Great whale watching

It took a while for the fog to clear and to find the whales. We stayed out about 45 minutes longer than scheduled, so we got our money's worth. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The boat was comfortable and clean.

It was a fantastic trip out and saw hump back and blue whales. Also Riso Dolphins on the way back into the bay. The Princess of Monterey Whale Watching Cruise was fantastic. The crew were great and very knowledgeable and very supportive of those not feeling well as it was a bit choppy the day we went out. It was one of the highlights of our trip to California. Thank you so much.

I thought I wouldn't have gotten sick but I did! It was so beautiful out there and the staff was super supportive in assisting me while being sea sick. I was sick the entire time, but I did sea some killer whales and 2 dolphines. But all in all it would of been great. If you're prone to motion sickness take something!

How did two hours go by so fast???

The experience itself was outstanding! Of course you do have to give some credit to the whales, i suppose. But the team at Princess Monterey were great too. They're very concerned about your safety, so be prepared for them to be on top of that. If you're standing by the edge and not holding onto the rail, they WILL let you know. This is a good thing! Oh and watch your heads as you board and disembark. There are a couple of low planks that despite the crew's multiple warnings still jumped out and hit me in the head as I was leaving. As for the experience, we went out on the Greatland, which is bigger than the other boat, and the staff pointed out that it's more stable and less condusive to sea sickness. The reports we were getting about people getting seasick had us concerned. But it didn't seem anyone on this trip was seasick at all. it was a smooth ride for the most part. The whales are out in abundance right now. We saw one, possibly two, Blue Whales and a bunch of Humpbacks. The Humpbacks in particular came very close (within 30 yards, which for a 50 ft. creature is REALLY close) and seemed to be investigating the boat. Neat stuff. I'd say we saw about 8 whales total. Passengers on the trip before us said they saw 15, including 5 blues. A naturalist gives a running commentary of what we're seeing and facts about the animals. It's not just the whales though. She also gave good information on the sea birds, sea lions and whatever else we saw out there. The only criticism was that the sound system on the Greatland wasn't the greatest, and when the boat was moving you had a lot of trouble hearing the naturalist talk. Two interesting things happened. I bought the $20 upgrade to be on the top deck, but we had such a good view of the Blue Whale, and I was so captivated, I didn't even head up there!! I did finally go to the top deck and the view for the Humpbacks was ideal. I do recommend the upgrade, but remember to use it!!! Secondly, it was over in the blink of an eye!! When they announced it was time to go, I and everyone around me, couldn't believe that two hours went by so fast. It was a sad moment, but also demonstrated what a great time we were having. For those of you who have never gone whale watching, (it was my second time) it's such a great experience. Not only is it exciting just seeing these magnificent, majestic creatures, but when they dive, you don't know where they'll come up ...or what you'll see next. There's an air of mystery about it that only enhances an already awesome experience. Princess monterey did a great job of bringing that experience to life. The front desk people, the crew and the naturalist were all great. I highly recommend it. One quick thing: Legally, You have to sign the ships registry, which Princess posts in front of the office. But anyone walking by can read it and get your info. It's something to be aware of.
