From the start to the beginning it was great. The crew was nice and also helpful, the guide was informative and we got to see humpback whales, which was very exciting. I would have like to see more mammels. We had to go out 12 miles to see them, and the swells were pretty high. |

April must not be the best time to go apparantly - the 10 am cruise on the way out was raining and the water was very choppy! However, the crew went out 1/2 hr. further just so we could get the Humpback spottings! Once there the weather cleared, the whales were visible and it was trully exciting. The marine bio was cool, and informative, the vessel was the biggest (of the other company's), which defenetly reassured my decision to stick with the Princess if we were to go again. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the sea-and could care less that we couldnt see any land around us when we were out 16 miles! Over all Very safe! I took motion sickness pills the night before and 1 hr before, which really helped-plus staying outside in the air helped as well yet my husband had tons of fun and never left the front of the boat!. |

Seeing the whales was fantastic, but was marred by the sea sickness caused by the extent of the swell and the distance required to get to where the whales were. I would also have liked to see other sea life and this was limited as the focus was all on the whales. Not everybody became sea-sick, but my husband and my youngest daughter did.
It would have helped to have been given more detail of the state of the ocean at that time. If I went again I would definitely wait for the sea to be calmer, if I was able to do so. I would also probably go on my own, and find something else for the rest of the family to do. |

We took this trip on Easter Sunday 2007. The crew are polite, helpful and extremely enthusiastic!
We had quite a long trip out before we saw anything - in fact we thought we were going to have a 'wasted' trip, but then after about an hour saw Orcas and Humpback whales. The experience was fantastic! The children loved it, although the 4 year old found the outward journey a bit frustrating!
Would definitley do it again if in the area! |

Recently had a 2 week road trip around California. We all agreed this was the highlight event and one of the cheapest. |

We saw two orca and four humpback - fabulous. What made it so good was Katherine's enthusiasm, expert knowledge, and continuing commentary.
Thank you.

We did not have a great experience. First of all we were put on a SMALL BOAT, not the one pictured or the one we saw others on. The advertisement said there were marine biologist on the tour there was not - we did not get any info about any thing such as where we were when we saw coast line, we did not see whales we only saw birds, when the captain did speak we could not understand him. It was cold and windy and with a small boat it's a rough ride. My daughter got sick and pucked the entire time - I would suggest picking up motion sickness medicine - and take 30 minutes before if you get on the boat. They ran out of hot cocoa right away so we froze, not much room on the inside of the boat to go in and warm up - plus with a small boat being inside made people sick. The employee working was very friendly and helpfull with my daughter.
I do not believe I would do it again. |

We spent 3 1/2 hours, cold, wet, and sea sick and did not see any whales. We brought heavy jackets and took dramamine and still suffered. What a disappointment. |

We took a Saturday, 1:00PM, Whale Watching cruise on the Princess boat from the Monterey Whale Watching Company, Katherine the biologist was very enthusiastic and made the trip interesting with her insights and stories. Unfortunately, most of the trip was uneventful, we didn't see any marine life once we were out of the harbor. Eventually, the Captain did a great job of finding a couple of Humpback whales, and we were able to watch them for a while. Those are the pluses of the trip.
We were disappointed that the boat used, the Princess, "Monterey's largest and most elegent vessel", was not as nice as I expected. The Men's restroom was awful, the toilet didn't flush and there was no water to wash hands. I don't know if the Women's was any better. The snacks available on board was limited and very expensive. A small bag of chips, that should be about 75 cents was $2.00. They allow people to bring their own snacks, and most people did.
Coming back to the Harbor, the weather got foggy and chilly, everyone went into the cabin, and it was crowded. The heater worked well to keep us warm.
I would go on another Whale Watching Trip, but would try another company the next time. |
