Just Do It!

We saw about 10 humpback whales during a 2.5 hr trip. We mostly focused on a mother and her cub (?) They splashed around and made a show of themselves. Even though they moved really fast, we managed to get some good photos. The Greatland is 100' vessel and much more stable that others I've been on. Therefore, if you suffer from seasickness, this really makes a difference. We paid the up-charge to get seating on the top deck and that also made a huge difference. I can't say that we would have enjoyed it nearly as much if we had been on the lower deck. The naturalist, Catherine, kept us informed with narrative of what was happening. She seemed very knowledgeable and her own enjoyment of the event was infectious! The crewman on the upper deck was also very friendly and solicitous. We didn't have to go out very far and only about 20 minutes passed before we saw our first whales. - Just Do it! you won't regret it. (if you suffer from seasickness, take precautions. It got bumpy on our afternoon trip and some people didn't look very happy.)

The whale watch was an enjoyable activity and worth the cost. The only criticism is that when we booked our tickets online it was for the 9:00 tour on a Friday, but it was changed to 10:00 due to it not being on a weekend. An e-mail was sent but by that time I was already on the trip and did not have access to my e-mail.

This was such a wonderful experience for my husband and I! We traveled to California for the first time and were so pleasantly surprised with the whale watching experience! We would highly recommend to anyone and do this again in a hearbeat. Dress warm and take medication for sea-sickness if you are prone, as there were a handful on our boat that suffered. Bring your camera too!!
