Not worth the money

Since there has been an influx of humpback whales in Monterrey recently my boyfriend and I drove down from San Francisco to go whale watching. The experience was very disappointing. We did see some whales, but the boat was so big and loud it was impossible to get anywhere near them. It was an overcast morning and just being out on the water would have been relaxing, but the guide didn't stop talking the entire 2.5 hours. The speaker system was deafening and the announcer obnoxious. I have a friend who went out with a small boat owner and said it was one of the most amazing experiences he's ever had. But there was nothing pleasant about going whale watching with Princess.

The day was sunny and beautiful, and apparently the conditions were far better than normal for our tour. We saw dozens of very active humpback whales, often surfacing in groups of 2, 3 and even 4 at a time! They were accompanied by a multitude of sea lions and many different birds. The tour narrator was phenomenal - very knowledgable, and VERY entertaining!

PRO *impression, that captain/crew knew exactly where to head to, in order to make the experience possible * very interesting comments and explanations by tour guide (biologist? oceanologist?) * good price/service ratio CON *additional expense for rooftop space *no amenities at all (water, drinks in general) included in the price

We had a fantastic cruise and saw lots of whales. What I particularly liked is that we could book the tour the night before, online. Very easy! I would recommend seats at the upper deck.

A good trip, knowledgeable naturalist, helpful crew. I did take the upper deck, though I wasn't wild about having to pay $20 extra for it. The bathrooms could use some attention. And we sure did see whales! They knew where to take us for the best chances to do so. It was well worth the trouble to get there.
