One of a kind

Definately recommend this activity - whether you're travelling with your family, small kids alone or in a group of friends. We saw countless humpbacks, several dolphins, sea lions, otters and even two orcas. You also get background info regarding these animals from the accompanying guide, so you know what to look for and also know how these animals work, what makes them special, how they hunt, what they eat, why they are there. What I liked most is, that the boat doesn't hunt the whales and other mammals down but stays a respectful distance away - unlike other tour boats that we saw. It's a fun activity, it'll be over way too fast and you get to learn something, too. Edutainment as it should be!

The boat was very comfortable. We saw about 30 humpback whales, one orca killer whale, a group of Rizzo's dolphins, sea otters, sea lions. Tour was nicely narrated. We lucked out and had beautiful weather.

Humpbacks and an Orca

Totally lived up to my expectations. Surrounded by small pods of humpbacks most of the time. A small group of about 5 close up and constantly diving with tails flapping out of the water. To top it we encountered a killer whale extremely close to boat. Would loved to have seen a humpback whale launch itself out of the water relatively close up but only a distant splash provided tantalizing taster of such a breach. Maybe next time.

Saw dozens of whales, including a killer whale, and a lot of sealife. Staff was very accommodating, professional, and energetic. Crew ensured everyone had a chance to see whales up close and had plenty of time to take pictures/video. Great trip and had loads of fun. Give the tour my highest recommendation!

everything ok, just a couple of suggestions: 1) guide on boat could speak a bit more slowly (some of us Europeans don't understand so well as to catch every word, especcially with the wind and all) 2) should have binoculars to rent, or just to give (after deposit) ok, just my 2 cents!

Best Part of Our Trip

Our whale watching experience was the very best part of our trip to Monterey. We had a couple of queasy travelers who forgot all their seasick troubles when we spotted the first whale, so that in and of itself was an accomplishment. Then our captain and host steered us toward Big George, the orca hanging out in the bay for a few days, and we were BLOWN AWAY. It was amazing. Our host was so enthusiastic and friendly that it made the whole experience that much more exciting. We felt like kids!

My wife and I included whale-watching in a weekend visit to Monterey. Weather was cold, but the website warned us well, so we dressed for it. Water was not very rough either. Overall a great day. Naturalist clearly loves to teach, and we learned a lot. Our trip was mid-October, and we saw Roselli's dolphins (sic?), one of which leaped entirely out of the water twice (way cool), lots of humpbacks, lots of sea lions, seals, and otters. Plus Big George the orca, harassing but not eating the seals.

Really enjoyed our venture out to see the whales. The anticipation is aided by comprehensive narrative from the knowledgeable and fun guide. Plenty of times we saw glimpses of humpback whales and were fortunate to catch a glimpse of an orca. Even on a day as grey as ours there is plenty to witness. If possible, take as good a camera / video recorder you can as you will want to document everything you see.
