Enjoyable trip with sighting of one whale species

We were entertained by our tour leader and enjoyed the trip. We saw a few hump backed whales which was very exciting, we were disappointed we didn't see dolphins or the blue whales sighted earlier in the week, but hey, that's nature!

Fun Experience

We saw 2 whales! It was very exciting to see the blow, back, and tail. Even though I wore a patch behind my ear, I got seasick about an hour into the tour. They have you go to the back of the boat where it is calmer.

The cruise was amazing. One person in my crew ( my son) got ill before boarding. We asked if we could return the ticket or resale it. The person on the desk said yes, to come back after the ride. My son went back to the hotel. When the ride was over, I went to see the man on the desk and said that it was too late to return it and that there was nothing we could do, in other words to suck it up. I asked if we could try to resale it for the next ride and he said absolutely not. I reminded him of what he had said earlier and he denied it. I wished he would have told us before he could not help, and I would have attempted to sell the ticket my self. i WASTED $50.00. I will recommend the tour for the amazing view, but will tell my friends to be cautions about the insincerity of the desk employees.

We came, we saw whales, we were happy! Family had fun. We saw a blue whale first, then many humpbacks. Our guide was Katherine and she was very enthusiastic, loves her job, and it shows. We will do this again next year!

No Whales, no good customer service

Unfortunately we didn't see any whales at all. Now, while we appreciate that these are wild animals that can't be made to appear to order, we found the advertising unrealistic. The cruise shed at the harbor displayed a large sign with whale sightings on each of the prior 7 days (grey whale, humpback, grey whale, etc). And now suddenly on our tour, Fri, 28 June, am, ...no whales. That sounds very unlikely in comparison to daily sightings over the last week. The captain at the end of the tour managed to at least show us 3 dolphins, but that is of course not why we booked a $ 120 tour for the four of us. So, to come back to the point, if our non-sighting of whales was really such a rare event (compared to the previous "regular sightings"), I would have at least expected the company to offer their customers to go on another tour free of charge, but there was no offer of the kind made.

This was our first experience at whale watching. We had so much fun that we didn't want it to end. The guide was very knowledgable about whales and the area. The captain did a great job getting us to locations where we could see the whales as they came out of the water. The only negative is the check-in process. Make sure that you have ALL of the paperwork that is emailed to you. My husband tried to check us in without the paperwork, and the people working the check-in process wouldn't let him check-in without out and were very rude about it. Other than that, I highly recommend Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruise!

Rare Blue Whale Opportunity

This was our second whale watching trip. On our first trip, we saw humpbacks briefly along with dolphins and a sunfish. This time started out very quietly with no clue that we would see much of anything. About 45 minutes into the cruise, a blue whale emerged and showed a fluke. The next hour and a half we saw a total of eight sightings. On one occasion, the whale paralleled the boat and was very close. We were told that, in fact, two blue whales were present in the area. Our naturalist gave very animated and descriptive narration and took extra time to pursue and pinpoint when the whales would likely surface. I have learned that whale watchers should be patient and flexible. The wildlife will vary from day to day and season to season. We will treasure our experience always.
