Nice trip!

Saw several whales on trip. The boat made effort to get to the area the whales were once they were spotted. There was a lot of information on the animals/whales that we may spot in the area being announced on the loudspeaker. Nice trip, no complaints. Suggestion - take sea sickness pills before you go on ship. There were a lot of waves and movement of the boat and I saw several people that looked green.

It is a good idea to take along extra batteries for camera and jacket. It gets very brisk out on the water while moving. It is also good to take Benadryl ahead of time if you get easily dizzy/nauseated. The crew will take good care of you if you do get ill =) Thanks for taking good care of my husband while I was taking pictures!

Would highly recommend this trip. Pleased I chose the bigger boat though as there was quite a swell that day. Was worth paying extra for the top deck to get an unrestricted view of the whales. Took some awesome photos. We were so close to them.

We went on the Princess. Perfect size boat. No one got sick. Skipper took us to Moss Landing area where humpbacks were abundant. Very good narrator. Even saw a lone killer whale. Would not change a thing.

Whales Everywhere!

There were so many whales (humpbacks) that we were running from side to side on the boat to get pictures. Finally, we decided to each take a side so we could get more pictures. The whales were feeding on an unusually large amount of anchovies that had come in to the bay. Well worth the money!

Whale watching at its best

During our recent visit to California we attempted to fit as many activities that we possibly could into our time there. This included a trip on the Greatland with Monterrey whale watching tours. We opted for the upper deck and found that it was money well spent. Obviously the tour operators cannot guarantee sightings at all times but we were told that the morning tour had witnessed some pretty close up encounters with humpbacks and I was praying that we managed to get some similar sightings. Not to worry though - our trip was to say the least spectacular - the trip could have been recorded and put on the Discovery channel ! We witnessed at least 12 humpbacks - some of them very close to the boat. But we also witnessed a feeding frenzy of around 100 seals, 8 whales and countless birds on shoals of anchovess- this was absolutely spectacular and the tour guide admitted that we had been pretty fortunate to see this. Highly recommended

not sure if it was rare and we were lucky but the whale feeding we saw was stunning. one suggestion would be that you guys should have a photographer onboard as I couldnt capture good shots of the whales.

Overall safety instructions & drills needs to be improved. $20 surcharge to use upper deck is steep (45% hike !! )

Great trip

I will preface by saying that my wife & I have been on many whale watching trips in California, Hawaii and Alaska. We saw more whales on this day with Princess, than any other trip we have ever been on with the closest encounter we have ever had. The "Greatland" was clean and fairly comfortable. We chose to upgrade to the upper deck and found it is not worth the extra $20 they charge. Threre was plenty of room on the main deck and the bow has enough room to provide great viewing. Not so on the upper deck as they do not open the front of the boat to passengers. Views were limited to each side and the stern. So save your money and get the standard fare and sit outside if you are prone to motion sickness. The marine biologist was very knowledgable and helpful.
