Good ship, great weather, lots of animals: sea otters, sea lions, albatrosses, pelicans etcetc, and on top 2 pods of Orcas. Nice show off and the ships captain followed the groups splendidly so lots of good photos (breaching orca;s) could be made. Would come for another go, thand perhaps with blue or /other big whales, because of the orcas they were not present now.

My husband and I went as part of celebrating our anniversary and I'm so glad we did. The marine biologist on the trip, i think her name was Kathy was so amazing! She made the trip a lot of fun and gave a ton of information. On our trip we saw two pods of orcas and they were jumping and playing and it was amazing to watch!!! The rest of the team on board was incredibly nice as well. There were a few people who got sea sick, but the staff made it a point to provide napkins and talk to them and make it not so awkward the were sick. It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to going again.

Spread the charm of whale watching

The sea voyage from Monterey Bay provides a spectacular view of the California central coast and whale-watching it is something that I never thought I would enjoy. The joy of the tour guide when we saw the first whale was something that spread to the whole Group. Seeing the whales so close free in their natural environment makes us think we have a commitment to protect them for the enjoyment of future generations.

Bring a camera, binoculars, sunglasses, a light jacket, a sense of humor, and a willingness to get wet. Wear casual clothes, a head covering that can be tied down , and sensible flat shoes. Eat a light breakfast and bring stomach quieting gum or medication. Listen carefully to all instructions and narrations given by the crew, and encourage others to pay attention too.

Family Whale Watching

Our departure was a little late, around 10:15. The company was selling tickets up until that time. We had an enthusiastic naturalist who narrated the trip and pointed out where we could see the sealife. The crew was attentive to individual needs and safety. We were able to see evidence of two humpback whales, a sunfish, two sharks, various dolphins, and a few jellyfish. The trip may be too long for small children. There was ample seating inside for those who didn't feel up to hanging on to the outer deck. At times, the bobbing of the boat was rough, depending on the speed and wave action.

Go for the longer trip elsewhere

The marine biologist on the tour was very funny - albeit a bit racy - and the trip got off fine as most of these do. We found our target - a young Humpback in the distance, and every time they would spot the whale, the boat would turn towards it to get closer... This had serious implications. First, there was no way the boat was going to ever get closer by the time the whale went under again; and, second, it prevented every person on the boat - with the exception of the few in the front - from seeing anything. Most tours are patient, you sit and wait, and see where the whale comes up. Because this was so short, they dashed around and saw really nothing (except all those puking in the back from the ride). I mentioned this to the staff, but I think their demographic is really the unconcerned tourist that doesn't really care about the whales and just wants a trip, so they didn't care. You want to see whales - go elsewhere.
