Great naturalist, rough seas

This trip to watch humpback whales was mildly successful. Weather seemed very good. There was no wind in the harbor but out in the observation area, swells were to 10 feet. The captain did a great job negotiating the swells, but once we got to where the 2 whales were, we were all very cold and many were sick. The whales we saw had just recently fed, and so were not very active. I just saw bits of backs (and I am a seasoned whale watcher). I have been out with Princess Monterey before when it has been calmer on the water and the trip was much better. Their naturalist is very knowledgeable as well as enthusiastic and funny. I would recommend that you check the weather forecast in the morning and find out the sea conditions before deciding on a trip. For me this trip was a waste of money because I was too sick to enjoy the whales the few whales I saw and the seas were too rough to find more.

I treated my step-daughter and her husband to a special adventure. Our whale-watching trip provided lots of action and excitement. Whales, dolphins and birds on all sides! Plus an enthusiastic naturalist guide and boat caption pointing out the varied sea life all around us made the trip memorable. The wind, the waves, the sea air and the sea animals--everything was great!!

Perfect Day to go Whale Watching

I absolutely enjoyed the whole experience!!! For my birthday, I decided to go whale watching for the first time. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to see that much. Who would of thought I chose the perfect day to go out into the bay. Our group saw close to 100 dolphins and 30-50 humpback whales throughout the whole trip! What made the trip even better was that we even saw a Leatherback turtle! We were told this was a really rare sighting and we got to experience it! Thank you Princess Monterey for such a special day!

We very much enjoyed our trip. The boat was clean and the crew was friendly, especially liked the naturalist who went with us. She was very informative and fun. We got to see quite a few whales which made my wife and little girl very happy. I especially enjoyed the 17 mile run out to where we saw them. It was a bit choppy and I loved standing in the front of the boat. Was like an amusement park ride...quite exhilerating.

We never done this so we didn't know how our bodies were going to react to the boat movement. 1 out of 4 of us got sick but they were very nice about how to handle it. Me, my husband and youngest daughter had a blast. We didn't get any humpbacks but we got about 9-10 Killer Whales/Orca's. We are doing it again in November hoping to see humpbacks! I think the intercom in the enclosed area of the boat needs to be clearer on a windy day, we couldn't hear the narrations from the captain who was funny and energetic, I was a bit sick but he made me smile on what I could hear!

The weather was perfect the morning we set out on our whale watching tour. The water was calm and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The naturalist on board was pretty young, but quite knowledegable. Bring a jacket out on the open water... the temperatures drop pretty quickly once the boat gets moving. Our tour was really lucky with spotting the whales. Lucky for us, the whales were really curious when we approached and came right up to our boat and did a little show for us. The pair of humpback whales played near the boat for about forty five minutes. I got some fantastic pictures. A couple of times they went beneath the boat and you could spot their shadowy silhouettes from the surface. After that experience, everything else seemed somewhat disappointing... seeing whales spout in the distance just doesn't inspire as much awe as seeing these beautiful creatures up close. Overall, a great experience.
