Helpful, informative and efficient.

The tour operator provided an informative narative throughout the key points of the trip, describing the behaviour of the whales and dolphins that we met in detail. Their knowledge of the subject was clearly excellent and they were helpful and responsive to questions. The boat trip itself was efficient despite rough weather and the staff made every effort to keep all passengers comfortable.

a little choppy?

They told us the trip was just going to be a little choppy. Turned out to be constant 10-20 ft swells that got most of the women and kids and some guys sick the whole 3.5 hr trip! we saw only a couple of whales from a very far distance at the last leg of the trip. the boat's bathroom should at least have a vent and should at least be working. all in all, we'll never go whale watching again because of this experience. MAYBE in the far future but definitely not with this company.

My wife and I had gone down to Monterey for the weekend and scheduled a whale watching trip for sunday morning. The morning of, my wife woke up with a migraine. Needless to say we were pretty bummed, we had both been looking forward to the excursion all weekend. Just on a chance I figured it wouldnt't hurt to go and ask if we could turn our tickets in for a voucher. When we arrived the man and woman who were working there were nothing but awesome. They we completely sympathetic and gave a voucher for a return trip. I was expecting to be turned away and instead was treated very well. Great business. Will definately recommend to people and look forward to going back.

Warning -Only for those without 'motion sickness'

Our group consisted of 4 adults - ages 57-60. Three of the group members enjoyed the cruise (actually saw whales, dolphins and other marine animals). I on the other hand did not see anything but water as I was hanging over the railing the 'entire' three hours due to motion sickness - Absolutely Miserable!!!!!. Also - it was very cold so dress appropriately! My other three group members did not rave about the experience but did enjoy it.

I thought this was a good trip. What it lacked compared to other whale watching trips was a good naturalist. The captain gave some commentary which was pretty much what you could read from a website covering the basics but you couldn't ask questions as he was at the bridge driving the boat. They did make a good effort to get us a view of some humpbacks though.

Whale Watching Review

I can't really say good or bad things about our trip. We only saw one humpback whale after almost fearing we'd see nothing and one small group of dolphins on the way back in. I know they can not guarantee sightings, it was just a bit disheartening after traveling all the way from Vegas and to only see 1 whale. We showed up at a spot where 3 other boats were stopped already and that's where we saw the 1 whale. It seems like 10 AM tours are a little late, that maybe we'd have seen more had the tour started earlier. (just a thought) We couldn't always hear what the guide was saying as the PA system was constantly breaking up. But it was beautiful scenery and a nice ride.

We saw two humpback whales and a gray whale. Was a little disappointed that we weren't able to get a little closer but I understand we have to respect that the captain knows what he is doing and you can only get so close to the whales without disturbing them. I would definately recommend The Princess Monterey Whale watching cruise!

It was really neat to see the Grey whales and the deck hand was really informative and outgoing. It can be hit or miss as we saw our whales about 30 minutes into the trip, leaving the remaining 2 hours rather uneventful, but still worth the money. Beware, the Princess Monterrey is a nice boat, but it's still a bouncy ride out to sea and it gets rather cold and windy on the deck.

Perfect Day!

I enthusiastically recommend sailing on the Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruise. The crew was terrific - very friendly, helpful, & experienced. The ship is one of the larger ones that does whale cruises, but we still felt very close to the sea and the beautiful animals. The crew did everything they could to make it a great trip. We saw about 20 dolphins, who followed the ship leaping in and out of the wake. We also saw grey whales with calves, sea lions, sea otters, sea birds, etc. I think being out on a large ship helps prevent sea sickness, there is less rocking from the waves. Also, we took Drammamine, pseudophedrine (so we wouldn't fall asleep), used sea-sickness prevention bracelets, and did not eat during the trip -- this all worked great and not one of us felt sea sick, even though we are all inclined to get motion sickness easily. Also, we brought lots of warm clothes (sweatshirts, jackets), wore sunscreen, had sunglasses -- it all came in very handy. Be sure to bring all that type of gear - you'll need it. Wish I had a faster camera - only thing I'd change for next time.

Chuming for whales in Monterey Bay
Tue, Apr 13, 10   10:00 AM Baywatchfor4 Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
Whale watching is not for the weak at stomach especially following a large storm. The water was very choppy to say the least, but the day was beautiful none the less. The ship and crew were wonderful and very helpful to those in need. As for whales, the only thing to be found was a school of dolphins (cute), not from lack of trying to locate them though. No other boat in the area spotted any either. We did get a rain check for a future trip which was nice. All in all I think the trip was great! (I being the only one in my group not to get sick). I would come back again on a calmer day.

No Whales and Rough Seas
Sat, Apr 10, 10   10:00 AM laurapreece Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Don't get me wrong. We actually had quite a bit of fun. Our family doesn't get seasick, even with the rough water, so we loved the stomach-dropping bouncing through the waves. Some others didn't. It was really cold, we had strong winds, and there were no whales. The PA system didn't work well so we only heard half of what the tour guide was explaining about the sea life and the bay. If you really want to see whales, then you need to try a different time of the year...early April isn't it!
