We had a whale of a time!
Sat, Nov 21, 09   10:00 AM kaysorg Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
The boys were involved in a fancy-schmancy golf tournament at Poppy Hills. So instead of being dumped onto the streets of Carmel to follow our genetically-determined instincts to shop, I booked this whale watching tour. Because, let's face it; girls just want to have fun! We had a wonderful time, no one puked, and the whales made an appearance, as expected. The boat was perfect, the staff was perfect, and the day, all in all, was perfect. We returned to The Wharf, pounded down some seafood and bloody marys, ate salt-water taffy. We will be attending a Holiday Wine & Cheese Party this Saturday night and i can't wait to tell the others about our "princess cruise".

Monterey Sea Life

The Monterey Bay is filled with life! On our 2 1/2 hour excursion we saw seals, sea lions, otters. a group of dolphins, two humpback whales, and some giant starfish! Quite exciting even for us beachgoers from Florida. The boat ride was just as expected. My only disappointment was the distance we had to keep away from the whales (100 yards). It's CA law. I would highly recommend binoculars or a good video camera that could capture them with the zoom. Overall, it was a great trip!!!

While other similar services provided a narrative throughout the cruise, this provider had trouble even identifying the type of dolphins we spotted. Also, be sure to take seasickness pills before any of these cruises if you have never been on the ocean in choppy water before.

No whales. A few porpoises. Nice view of the Monterey shoreline. Better luck next time! Fairly expensive with no guarantees.

We had a wonderful time on the Princess. It's the only whale watching cruise that I know of, that is "Dog Friendly" I would definitely reccomend Monterey WW to my friends!

not worth the money

I could have taken the same boat for less money, had I purchased the tickets there. We wasted the whole time looking for whales or anything else. We only spotted 2 whales from a long distance. I have seen whales closer up at marine world for less money. Very disappointed. Never again. I guess it does not pay to reserve tickets ahead of time.

We went out to choppy waters with heavy fog setting in , 80% of the people got seasick and there was not even 1 single dolphin to be seen.

fun but not above our expectations

Our trip was fun, but i think our biggest disappointment was that we had read online that if there were no whales seen, we would receive vouchers to come back and visit another time and we never were offered anything!

We didnt see any whales but it was great to get out on the bay and we did end up seeing a huge pod of dolphins (3 types) and they stayed with the boat for about half an hour! We really enjoyed the trip and would reccommend it to others and hope you see some whales too!

Not worth the effort!

The trip we went on was on October 25, 2009 and because the seas were so rough, some passengers got seasick. I know that seasickness doesn't happen to all but a warning should be posted BEFORE boarding that the seas are rough so that patrons can decide whether to go or not. I think that the captains of the boats know when the seas are rough (I would hope the captains hired are experienced enough to know the sea) and should think of the passengers' well being before setting sail. By the way, we saw one whale at the tail end of the trip (3 hours of agony) and it was so far away because of the sea swells, that I can't really call the experience "whale watching." Think before you reserve your seat(s) on this one!
