Beautiful Weather, Veteran Staff

| The weather, the multitude of sea life and veteran staff made this journey absolutely wonderful. We saw many, many whales, a very active small pod of dolphin, jellies, aquatic birds, and sea lions. The naturalist was both fun and informative. The captain did everything in his power to help us see as many things as we could. Moving the boat constantly to keep us in the line of sight. We had a fabulous trip! | ||||||

Whale Watching on the Pacific Explorer

| No one in my group had ever whale watched before so the experience was particularly new, fresh and exciting. The first waterspout was sighted minutes after exiting the bay. It was a small spout but because we had never seen one before, we all gasped in amazement. The most exciting part was when we got very close to a whale. With the unaided eye, we could see the barnacles and other crustaceans on the surface of the whale. I snapped a picture of the fluke when the whale decided to dive. The picture turned out great and I felt like a professional photographer for a day. It was a great experience. | ||||||

| Sighting these mammals in their natural habitat and while they are at their natural antics, was a pleasantly refreshing experience. | ||||||

| The crew definitely knows where to go. We saw several groups of whales and a lot of ocean life activity. This was a very rewarding experience, and is something to highly recommed to everyone - to put our lifes in perspective, and to get respect and appreciation for the few remaining migrating whales. | ||||||

| We had a wonderful time. Saw lots of whales. Would like to go when there are a variety of different kinds. The weather was perfect and the only thing that would have made it more memorable would have been if they would have come up closer to the boat. | ||||||

| Our family, consisting of 5 adults and 2 children booked a tour on the Monterey Princess mid-week. Five minutes prior to boarding we were told we were not going on the Monterey Princess due to a coast guard check, we were all loaded on to the 75 ft. boat, name I cannot remember. No hot water for hot drinks, just cold drinks. We were part of a relatively small group of 14 and our thoughts were that the operator didn't want to use the bigger boat (100 ft. and newer) for such a small group. The speaker system on the boat was awful and it was very difficult to hear what the Captain (?) was saying. All of this said, the crew of 2 were very polite and friendly, we got to see lots of whales which was wonderful, we just wish it could have been on the boat that we were expecting. Our family was visiting from Utah and probably won't have the opportunity to do this very often, so we would have liked to have been on the boat that we paid (we think top $$$) for. | ||||||

| We are a couple on our honeymoon and thought this would be a fun thing to try and we weren't disappointed. We saw a very large pod of Dolphins (although we were told that they aren't seen sometimes) and a good number of Gray whales. We also saw a variety of other animals along the way. We went in early January and it wasn't that crowded on the boat. The boat was a good size and seemed well taken care of. We have pretty much no complaints to speak of. Everything was great. | ||||||

| We greatly enjoyed our trip on the Pacific Explorer. The crew was friendly, the naturalist interesting, everything happened on time -- and we saw *lots* of whales! Six to eight at a time. Our visitor from the Midwest was thrilled. | ||||||

| We went on a Saturday and really enjoyed the trip. The Crew really did a good job finding the whales and explaining what the whales were doing. Aside from the whales this trip is a good way to see Monterey Bay! | ||||||

| I had purchased tickets for my fiance, me and my daughter on the Pacific Princess, a 100' ship to whale watch. On Wednesday the owner of the tour group called and advised that the 'Princess' had been chartered out, but that the smaller ship, the Pacific Explorer (75') was going out at the scheduled time and he would be happy to move my group to that time or refund my money. This would have given me enough time to change my plans had I received the message, so I don't fault the owner, rather, I applaud him for caring enough to make the call and let me make the decision rather then toenailing me into something I was unhappy with. We ended up on the smaller ship, and my daughter and fiance had a great time. Our captain guided the boat between many pods of whales throughout the 2 hours we were within the locale of the whales so we saw just what we were hoping to see. A guide spoke thorughout the tour to let us know what we were seeing and made the minutes, that saw us watching the waves instead of the whales, pass by quickly as each tidbit of fact gave us new insight into what we were seeing or what we should look for the next time the pod rose to the ocean surface. I got off the ship slightly seasick as the waves seemed to get larger as the moments passed. But, I still really enjoyed the view of the sea, the sun and the welcome sight of the harbor after being truly amazed by the whales that I had seen and the information I had learned. I would recommend this trip to anyone. Just make sure you are ready for the roll of the ocean and your stomach. :) | ||||||
