Good Time by All

The boat was large with plenty of room inside and out. The staff in the boarding area and on the ship was very courteous and the marine expert that accompanied the trip was very friendly with lots of good information. We saw only one juvenile humpback whale that we stopped to watch for a full half hour, but there obviously isn't much control over how many whales will be seen. We also saw a couple dolphins and a few sea lions. I would definately go on this trip again, especially during a season when gray or blue whales could potentially be seen.

Great way to feel the energy of Monterey bay and it's Wildlife. Felt more connected to the needs of habitat for the sealife. Made me more concious of the big picture. It is one thing to see the marine life on TV quite another to experience it in real life. It was very exciting to anticipate and then see the whales and other sealife.

The boat ride is nice but sea-sick medicine is a must. There were adults and children getting sick overboard saying, "But I don't get sea sick." So my advice is; if you are paying good money for this good time, just take the medicine (ahead of time!!!) and DON'T take the chance of spoiling your trip. There was such a large group of people on the boat that immediately you know you are not going to get those great pictures that you came there to get, which for me, is completely frustrating. When the lady yells, "whale!", everyone moves to that side of the boat, but it's a huge amount of people and you are trying to stick your camera in between. You were lucky if you weren't just too far back to even see the whale. Also, you have to understand that although you paid the price, you may see very little or nothing. It was okay for me as I have a camera with a huge lense but you're better off not expecting much and just enjoying the boat trip. We did see dolphins from a good distance and two whales from a real good distance.

Great Experience! :)

My friends and I had a wonderful experience on our whale watching adventure. Not only did we see a humpback whale, but also a group of dolphins, numerous sea lions, lots of jelly fish, and many different types of birds. It was also just the right amount of time to be out on the ocean on a boat for us. The captain, guide, and crew were very friendly and helpful. Our highlight of the trip had to be when the captain yelled "There she blows!" to alert us of the approaching humpback whale.

Superb experience, lots of wildlife seen, excellent commentary from an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. I would recommend this to anyone. But watch out for that reflected UV - I got seriously sunburned on a fairly grey day!

What a great morning we had - sighted a humpback whale which was awesome, but only one which was disappointing! The staff were all helpful and polite, and the marine biologist on board was amazing. She was witty, informed and SO enthusiastic about her work that it rubbed off on us. All in all, a trip I would be prepared to do again the next time I travel from the U.K. Thank you, I loved it!!

didn't get as close to the whales as I had hoped

The naturalist on board was extremely enthusiastic, she was very knowledgable and you could tell she loved her job. We only saw one whale/calf pair. I may have had unrealistic expectations. Also saw a rare basking shark and puffin. The trip back to the wharf was a nice way to see the coastline.

It was fun but the boat ride was too long

20 miles on a boat in the ocean is way too long

Pretty zoomed out...

We saw three whales but they were too far away from the boat. I expected to see them up close. I guess its because 'the Princess' is a big boat, so she cannot get too close to the whales... We actually saw some smaller boats follow the whales and go really close. I bet they got saw great pictures!!

Excellent, providing you have good sea legs as the journey out to where the whales are can be a bit choppy at times. Seeing the whales is fantastic and a sight not to be missed. The marine biologist that accompanies you is so knowledgable and enthusiastic. We saw lots of other things as well such as pelicans, sea otters etc.

I thought we would have been up closer to the whales or got to see more. We spent alot of time heading out and heading back but only spent about 15 minutes at the actual whale sighting spot. We were not very close to them at all. And we only saw them for a couple min at a time. We only saw one dolphin. I thought we would have saw alot more wildlife than we did. I was kinda disappointed. The marine biologist was a great tour guide

A bit disappointed...

The boat and crew were very pleasent and the expert they had on board was very enthusiatic and informative. We saw seals, otters, small Dolphins and lots of birds, however, we did not see much of the whales. There were only two whales plus one calf in the area when we went (August). I know the boat we were on could not control that but our boat always seemed to be the farthest away from the action. Our boat was by far the largest in the area but the smaller boats seemed to be able to get closer...Just something to think about! Oh, one more thing...Dress Warm and bring lots of parking money...Monterey really nickel and dimes you to death on the parking...Nothing is free in this town!
