Really great, but with a warning...

I took my mom to Monterey for Mother's Day. We went on the morning tour and were SO happy to see 2 beautiful Humpback whales. However, please read my word of warning! I have never gotten sea sick in my life!! I took two Dramamine before we left, about 45 minutes before we got on the boat. After an hour or so, I was really sick. I was able to make the entire trip with vomitting; however, a number of children were not so lucky. The crew was AWESOME! They were understanding, helpful, and very kind to all who got ill. The natrualist on the trip was very knowledgeable. If you are dead-set on going whale watching, I highly reccommed The Princess Monterey, but please be aware that the trip is a harsh one.

We were on the Princess on May 12th and Katheryn was our naturalist/biologist and she was the greatest!!! She kept us entertained and informed the whole trip. It was great to have someone with so much knowledge and factual info about the habits of the whales. We were somewhat disappointed that we did not get to see any humpbacks but be got to see ORCA"S and what a treat that was..... We will definetily be back to see ya'll again and hopefully see some other whales and dolphins our next trip. It was great and we cannot thank you enough....Our 11 year old son had a blast as well and will never forget the trip. Thanks for the memories. Tim and Lisa Toman and Kody too....

It was a beautiful day with an enthusiastic crew. It was rougher than I expected but we were prepared with dramemine and had no problems. We saw lots of killer whales and enjoyed the whole experience.

The gal who narrated our tour /cruise was AWESOME. She was very funny, entertaining and informative! Make sure you dress warmly as they suggest and where sunblock! My sister's face got sunburned! Great experience!

We went on May 11 and couldn't believe how cold it was. I don't think it was unusual. 3 hour trip to see a couple of glimpses of the tail. Boat was old and very rocky - some people got seasick. In the summer it would probably be a lot better - but we'd never go again.

Enjoyed my day on the waves

The tour seemed well organised and the captain was knowledgable about whales and the area. The crew member was polite and helpful. The only shame for us was that we only got a couple of glimses of whales - although I'm aware this is due to the time of year we went (and luck!).

Other than all the sea sickness, the whales were incredible. It would be nice if Benji would not always point the bow to the whales so that all of us could photo the whales not just the people in the front of the boat.

We did see whales, which were amazing! Although is was kind of hard to see the whales and try to guess where they were headed next, we did see humpbacks and orcas come up for air. It was a very informative trip. Our guide was very enthusiastic and knew who stuff about the whale, birds and other marine life. The guys wandering the deck were especially attentive to those who had motion sickness. I would highly recommend it to others!

It was a very bumpy day with LOTS of folks getting sea sick. Wonder if that was unusual or normal for the Monterey Bay area. Would go again if that is not the norm.

first whale watching: wonderful experience

This was our first whale watching event for me, my husband, and our 3 1/2 year old daughter. We thoroughly enjoyed it!! We knew, from a close friend, that taking such a trip is very worthwhile -- but only until you experience it, can you fully understand. The water was perfect that day -- calm, so the boat wasn't moving so hard -- and we saw quite a few whales. The route we took was beautiful... along the coast and even out a bit further at one point. I am partial to water, so I thoroughly loved simply being in the wind, with the water, and watching everything around me. Sooooo lovely! My daughter totally enjoyed the trip!!! She had a smile on her face the entire trip. :-)

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Monterey for the first time or for someone just out to see nature in it's awesome slendor! We saw 7 humpback whales! The biologist who was our guide did a wonderful job and answered all of the passengers questions with enthusiasm - you could tell she really enjoyed her career! She was the most enthusiastic guide we have ever encountered on a guided tour. A wonderful adventure!

We had an amazing time out on the Bay. We saw 7 Humpback Whales within very close range to the boat. We got many tail views also. We even smelt one's breath! We also saw the seels and a huge sunfish. It was amazing and our host was awesome. She told us about everything since she was a marine biologist. She was extremely enthusiastic and made the trip an experience. I can't wait to go again!

They tried really hard, handled boat well. The fog came in and we could not really see anything. In spite of that briefly saw two humpbacks. Definitely heed the instructions about clothing. We rode a motorcycle in and had heavy leather jackets, gloves, etc. and still froze. The Pacific is beautiful, but cold! Don't be the guy in a t-shirt, hiding in the lounge!

Good, but more warning needed for some people

We were able to see 2 Humpback whales on our cruise, which was great considering the lack of visibility. If I were to make any suggestions it would be that the operators of the cruise warn people that are about to board the ship of two things: 1/ Although it may be shorts and t-shirt weather on the wharf, miles out at sea it's probably a different story. People should be warned against their ignorance about this issue and they should be instructed to come again when they have a jacket. I saw some very cold and miserable people on the cruise. 2/ Guests were basically told that if they had to vomit to do it off the back of the boat. I think some basic instruction on how not to get sick in the first place might be warranted.....like, don't hang out in the cabin of the boat--stay on deck!! However, #1 above may have had something to do with why people were in the cabin. So, my review is really for other people--i myself did not get sick because I knew what to do, and what not to do. -jon
