Very entertaining, with marine biologist on board we felt we had a very informative morning, the bonus was seeing humpback whales and dolphins.

Better experience than I expected

I am a local, and have never been whale watching in CA. I have always went in Maui, so I wasn't expecting much after being spoiled with that. I was very happy that we were able to see blue whales and dolphins on our trip. My mother was out visiting from Pennsylvania and had never been whale watching, so it was very special for her. The boat was a larger one, which was good since there was always space without having to look through other people. I would reccomend this activity to anyone 100%

We did the trip as part of our honeymoon as my wife has always wanted to see whales - we weren't disappointed! Crew were helpful and friendly and the on board commentary was informative and knowledgeable.

The staff on the boat were incredibly attentive and helpful, constantly checking on the comfort of the guests. The cruising was smooth and the day was beautiful. Saw dolphins and whales.

Could be better

We took the Princess Monterey on a rainy day. Everyone on the ship got sick, including myself (first time I've ever been seasick.) The crew was very friendly and assisted everyone who got sick, and suggested moving to the outside of the boat, as the cool air and better view would help. The trip was cut a little short because it was impossible to tell whales apart from waves with the high winds. I would highly suggest waiting until you know what the weather will be like during your trip (as near as possible- I booked a month out and regret it. The next day was sunny and beautiful.)

Fun trip

It was a fun trip. The crew was knowledgeable and told us about all the whales, dolphins and birds we saw during our trip. Also, it was nice the boat had an indoor area to warm up in when it got too chilly outside.

A Glorious Day on the Bay!

My wife and I were celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary and were delighted with this trip on the Princess Monterey Whale Watching Cruise. We bought our tickets online through ZERVE (very easy) and had them with us when we arrived at the dock. The man in the ticket office was very courteous and in just moments we were out in the sunshine enjoying all of the activities in the area. Boarding was right on time and we were off for a fun day of whale watching. The crew were very pleasant and helpful to all of us on board. Our Marine Biologist was knowledgeable and very excited about each whale, and any thing else, that we saw. I enjoyed her enthusiasm and humor for her job even though she does it numerous times in a week, and sees whales every day. That enthusiasm and joy was transferred to us. It seemed as though we had just arrived at the best observation spot when it was time to head back to port. Time flies when you are having fun! We want to come back in a different season and do it all over again! Thank you for a wonderful day of fun and sport.

As specified the trip was not guaranteed

If you're from the neighboring cities not being able to experience viewing the whale at close will be fine since you can come back and try it all over again but if you're from the other parts of California, the drive was too long not to see them close.

WEATHER THE DAYS BEFORE OUR TRIP WAS BAD SO THE DAY WE WENT OUT WHALE WATCHING IT WAS VERY ROUGH, SOME GOT ILL, I MYSELF WHO DON'T GET SEA SICK DIDN'T FEEL WELL AND YOU COULDN'T REALLY STAND UP UNLESS YOU HELD ON WITH TWO HANDS. WITH THAT SAID, I THINK THE CAPTAIN AND HIS HELPER, THE STAFF WHERE YOU CHECK IN WERE VERY FRIENDLY, KIND AND CONSIDERATE. WE ARE GOING TO TRY AGAIN IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS IF THE WHALES ARE STILL THERE AND WEATHER BEFORE HAND IS NICE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TRIP WITH YOUR COMPANY, JUST WATCH THE WEATHER BEFORE THE DAY YOU GO OUT. THANK YOU AND HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON.

Bring Your Binoculars!

The people at Princess were very nice. However, we never got within a football field of the whales. The captain kept "ping ponging" around the bay. We'd see some over there and off we were, only to have the whales pop up someplace else. We've been on other whale watching trips and were able to get much closer. It was a little disappointing to have to view them from so far.

Rough Weather, safe tripl
Thu, Feb 23, 12   10:00 AM donnapereira Female 60-69 Local Family Without Children
The weather was sunny, but it became very rough, the captian and crew made it clear that safety was the number one priority. We were disappointed not to see any whales, but were happy to be given a "whale check" for our next trip to Monterey. I would not hesitate to take this trip again, just hope for better weather and at least a whale or two!

No whales to be seen
Thu, Feb 23, 12   10:00 AM jgibbonsfran Male 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
So much for 99% success in seeing whales as advertized on the website. I guess We were just in the unlucky 1%... Can't help feeling a bit sour about it given that whales had been seen every day previously. Still, crew was friendly. It would have been nice to have more commentary along the way. They did provide a free ticket for a future cruise, but that's not too useful for us as we are unlikely to be back in the area. Following our similar disappointment last year in Boston I think we're through trying whale cruises, it's just too expensive to be disappointed this way.
