Silver screen is pure gold on this tour

We are both movie buffs and have lived in the area for 10 years, so when this tour just recently crossed our radar, we jumped on it. A friendly hello and beautiful, first-class coach greeted us the Portola Hotel and soon we were tooling down Pacific to the melodic sounds of Ethel Merman while viewing title clips from some of the many movies shot in our area. Prior to the tour, my base of information were some posters at the Whaling Shed in Pt. Lobos or a few varied and incomplete lists gleaned from Google. Doug runs his tour like a treasure hunt and the hidden gems, be they film locations or local folklore keep appearing. Places we've driven by 100 times have suddenly taken on a new meaning and interest. We have ordered many of the movies mentioned to view or rewatch in their entirety. Yet what is most touching, being locals, is to watch and note the reaction of folks who have come to visit (most from SoCal on our tour, escaping the fires). They are treated to some of the best there is to see and experience on the Monterey peninsula and clearly leave the tour with a better understanding of what makes our home so special. In their words: it's an "E" ticket

Minor Technical Glitches

During the tour, there were a couple of technical glitches after a brief intro which caused us to not witness the video transition. Other than the glitches, the tour was very informative and quite enjoyable.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Hollywood Movie Tour of Monterey. Doug, the owner, was our guide. He made the tour very interesting. Doug really seems to enjoy sharing his passion for movies, especially those filmed in the beautiful Monterey/Pacific Grove/Pebble Beach/Carmel surroundings. He was a wonderful host. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Doug, the owner of Monterey Movie Tours, has done a wonderful job of putting together movie clips from many movies and then driving us by where the scene was filmed. He also stopped the bus and allowed us to get off 2 x, once along 17 mile drive, the second at Pebble Beach, so that was wonderful too. A very enjoyable tour, I did not want it to end! GO! Make sure you ask for a Senior or AAA discount before booking.

A worthwhile excursion of nonstop entertainment

We have wanted to take this tour ever since we found out about it a year or two ago when we visited Monterey. We have been to Monterey many times on vacation and pretty much know our way around. We have done some research on our own regarding movies which have been produced in the area, but there could be no comparison for watching the actual movie scene and then looking out the window to see the actual site. Sometimes the location looked identical to the movie scene and other times imagination had to be used, but what a thrill to be on location! Much time was obviously spent creating the presentation which we enjoyed, and the research done was impressive. Our driver/owner really knew the details and his presentation, warmth, and enthusiasm all added to the experience. If you are a movie buff, don't miss this. We sat toward the rear of the bus on the left side and felt we had great seats for the tour. Our only disappointment was that the advertisement said that complimentary water was going to be provided, but we never did see any water--maybe the driver forgot. No biggie. There were enough rest stops where we could have had a drink if we needed it. The driver even stopped at an unscheduled time so one of the passengers could make an "emergency" rest stop. While waiting at that location, the driver was able to entertain us with more movie trivia. What a great tour. Recommend it? YES. Worth the money? YES

Very Enjoyable Afternoon

My friends and I enjoy movies and we are of an age to be familiar with most of the movies that were talked about. I particularly enjoyed the manner in which the film was run and then you would be there at the very location. The bus was comfortable and the sound system was excellent. Doug, the owner and our tour operator obviously enjoyed the material he talked about and is a wonderful ambassador for the Monterey area. Much of the tour centers on the 17 Mile Drive so if you are very familiar with this area you might want to rethink this tour, however a member of my group who knew it well thought he got a whole new perspective about it. The high point for me was getting out at Pebble Beach and being able to wander around. Views to die for! The street scenes of Monterey and Pacific Grove were more fleeting and not to much of Carmel. I also think this tour would be of greater interest to young people/foreign visitors if there was more history of the area included as what was included is quite fascinating. Also this is not a tour for young children. When I think back about it the 3 hours went speeding by and there is something to be said for "leave the driving to us."

Beautiful drive but less than exciting

I enjoyed my 17 mile drive tour however was a little disappointed.  That may partly be due to the fact that the others on the tour were a little less than spontaneous, not even wanting to get off the bus at some of the stops.  I would have enjoyed a bit more exploring and interaction however that was not due to the tour or the driver but a result of the others on the bus, which they could not control.  The scenery was great.  Many of the movies that were pointed out were older movies and/or less than popular movies so overall I'd say that was the least exciting part of the tour.  The scenery was great but the movie connection not so much.
