Monterey Movie Tours

My husband and I recently took our son (age 7) and our mother on the Movie Bus this september and we're pleasantly surprised that the owner of the line was giving the tour personally. He had great hollywood charm, and lots of personal stories to elaborate on the basic concept of the tour. Matching up the locations with the scenes is interesting, but it is the behind the scene narration that makes the three hour tour fly by. The only down side of the tour is that most of the movies filmed in Monterey were made before 1960, so you might want to brush up on some classic hollywood before taking the tour. The bus is very comfortable and every guest is provided personal headphones and plenty of screens to view the clips. The bus makes well timed stops including pebble beach lodge, if you have an extra 50,000 dollars sitting around I recommend the gift shops there. Over all this tour is a good choice for elderly tourists because of it's comfort and accessibility. It's also nice if you want to go scouting for other places to visit in the area, or want to take it easy after hiking or kayaking. Very young children who travel well are ok, but kids between 5 and 10 might get restless. If I could change anything I would add a stop in Carmel-by-the-sea because it's so hard to park there, a bus would be ideal.

I have been to the Monterey Peninsula many times,as I live nearby. This was a different and great way to show friends who come to visit., especially if you are limited on time and want them to experience this beautifu area! This tour was fantastic; enjoying the scenery as I didn't have to drive. Doug, the tour guide had stories that added local color. I am a movie buff, having owned a video store for ten years. It was great to see clips from old movies, filmed here. Doug, the tour director was great, very informative, and really knew the history of the area!

We took the Saturday Movie Tour, 1pm -- The bus arrived on time and Doug, the owner, was our guide. He has a voice made for radio and he is very knowledgeable about the area, the movies and the connections that make this tour possible. We could have listened and toured all day with him. Doug is full of helpful hints and suggestions about things to do, became our camera man when we felt the urge for a Kodak Moment (and needed a photo of the two of us), and he clearly has a passion for the movies and local area. He is a people person for sure. He helped make our trip to Monterey and Carmel memorable. As an aside, Doug was kind enough to run our tour even though there were only 6 people on board. Unrelated to Scenic Movie Tours, a bus broke down that was supposed to have brought in an additional 16 or so passengers to join us on the Scenic Movie Tour. So, in essence, we had a very exclusive tour. Doug was candid about the misfortune of the other travelers and was still willing to let the show go on. He is the type of person you would love to meet for luch or dinner to learn more about his experiences and stories. The tour was simply not enough --Hats off to Doug! Bottom line, you will love this tour! This is not one of those dopey Duck Tour Adventures that you see in many cities. It will be better appreciated by teens and adults so don't drag you kids on board and expect them to sit and enjoy the tour. Again, it is not a Duck tour -- small children would likely spoil the tour for the rest of the bus in our opinion. Do not hesitate for a moment to book yourself or your group for this event. It would also be a good idea to book this tour before you go sightseeing so that you have the benefit of the many tidbits about the area that you learn from Doug. Then, when you return to sightsee after the tour is over, you will have a better appreciation for what you are seeing and where you want to spend your time. Bob and Marsha

This is a must do tour for movie buffs past and present. We thoroughly enjoyed the manner in which clips of the movies were presented in conjunction with the tour of the area. There was never a dull moment with our enthusiastic , personable guide. There is definelty something fascinating for everyone, whether it's a particular movie or the beautiful scenery. We are locals and have a whole new perspective of our home! We look forward to sharing this experience with family and friends.

A great way to experience the Monterey Peninsula with interesting information provided by driver and guide ( in our case the owner).

Not just your ordinary bus tour of the beauty and interest that surrounds the Monterey area. This tour combines sightseeing, history of the area, movie trivia and more. You will see parts of Monterey you would not see otherwise and will see them in ways you never would but for the lenses of Hollywood. If you are up for something different and fun, take this trip.

We had a good time and learned a lot along the way. I would recommend this tour to anyone that is a movie buff.

You will absolutely love this tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and very entertaining as well. The scenery along the tour is breathtaking . The movie clips played throughout the tour are an added bonus!

I had a great time even though i was by my self. i loved how he had the movies playing right where the actors where at so many years ago. i would actually like to go again to see things i didnt catch the first time around.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the Movie Tour. The film clips, tour and little tid bits of information were great. So informative. We loved that the tour included the 17 mile drive. The bus was comfortable. The timing was perfect, little stops to stretch and bathrooms along the way. Thanks.

Prompt departure with excellent commentary. We throughtly enjoyed meeting Doug and having him share his knowledge of the area, the history of same and movie information in general. Loved the casual conversation regarding growing up in the area (the personal touch) and information about some of the homes which helped us understand and appreciate the area. We thank him so much for pointing out areas we should visit while in the area, ie;, Point Lobos, Carmel Valley Mission etc. Overall it was a wonderful tour and we will certainly do it again and recommending it to friends. While we enjoyed Pebble Beach we thought the stop was a little too long and would have liked to stop maybe in Carmel for the same period. Perhaps that wasn't possible. We loved the video and the information that went along with the video. The scenery was spectacular. Our guide was super! There was not one thing that we would suggest changing.
