Exciting

The safety movie freaked me....but after we were on the segway for a bit, I felt more comfortable. Of course, there is nothing more beautiful than the Chicago lake front. Combine the view with the ride and you have a great memory of windy city!

Fun trip, but short on equipment

If the equipment had all been working correctly, this would have been a great trip. The segway is fun to ride, Michael the guide was very fun and informative, but they did not have enough functioning equipment. Two members of the group had to stay back because they ran out of Segways that worked. Plus, toward the end of our ride, another of the Segways failed. The guide gave his to me and he had to walk that one back home. I believe they had overbooked their available equipment and our party had to sacrifice. If you choose to rent there, be sure they don't have a large party booked ahead of you.

After signing a waiver, viewing a short video, and being fitted with safety gear, we anxiously started our journey. Heading to a park across the street, we learned how to start, balance, stop, and turn on the Segway. We practiced our new skills until everyone in the group felt confident. This is when the fun really began. Our tour guide Mike, paced us through parks, the museum complex, and along the shore. We travelled mostly on level sidewalks, but we also maneuvered up and down slopes, a small grassy section, a little gravel, and across Chicago streets. Mike offered a great mix of historic and humorous stories about the city and the architecture and was also able to answer every random question posed by group members. He engaged each person in conversation and offered to take photos of everyone. The tour was a fast, fun way to see and learn about sites in Chicago.

Combining the segway experience with riding through and experiencing some of Chicago's most beautiful and interesting real estate vowed both an adult who has seen it all and a daredevil teenager...

Segways are so fun and easy to ride. Our guide, Paul, was the best! She was informative, patient, and great instructor. He made it a fun experience for the whole group. We got to see areas that we never would have seen if it weren't for segways.

It turned out OK

I was a little nervous while watching the video. The actual hands on and positive attitude of Mike, the guide, were a lot more helpful. When I realized the amount of land we covered...it was a great tour. A few more up close, not just in the distance view, might have been nice. Also, a bit more diversity in the items/buildings/sites of note,e.g., a monument to DuSable, other specifically ethnic site of interest, etc.... Overall, I enjoyed the total experience. The price was almost acceptable..

The Segway Experience was an outstanding ride. After a short learning session, we spent about 1 1/2 hours riding through Grant Park in Chicago. The training was easy. Even my wife quickly took to using the Segway and she is not the most coordinated person around. The tour was led by an interesting guide. The only negative was that our legs were tired after the ride. It seems that slightly leaning forward to make the Segway go is more tiring than it looks. However, the entire experience was outstanding and I would highly recommend it to others; especially if you have teenaged children. We will certainly look for similar Segway tours in other cities.

Great experience

The tour guides, Steve and Matt, were very knowledgeable and patient. They provided a detailed explanation and individual help with the segways. Matt was very patient and encouraging with those who were not very confident on the segways and remained at the back of the pack. Steve was great with the architecture and history of the city.

We had a blast!

We were a group of 8 mixed men and women, the oldest in our 50's youngest 19. Our guide, Mike, made our tour, from start to finish, very interesting. The instructions to ride a segway were adequate, everyone took to it right away and we all headed off to see the sites. The machines only go about 6 miles an hour for the tour, and can turn on a dime but it would be very hard to fall off since the machine is adjusting constantly to keep your balance. It is quite an experience, everyone in our group had a great time, one of the girls even called a few days later to say thanks again for putting the trip together.

Different way to see the city

I was a part of two separate segway tours - one Lincoln Park the other the Museum Campus. Both experiences were highly entertaining. I enjoyed the Lincoln Park tour the most. Our L.P. guide was attentive, informative and in a good mood. It was a rainy day so not many pedestrians; consequently, we had more freedom of movement than the lakefront tour. I felt the lakefront tour was too restrictive but I understood the tighter rules. The campus tour sites seemed to be the focus and the segway experience an aside; at $75. a ticket, I wanted more ride time. (Q. Is the gratuity included?) The actually ride time is about an hour forty minutes. All in all both tours were enjoyable but the price is prohibitive to repeat trips.
