Not worth it

At $75 apiece, this activity cost $300 for my family. We had a terrific time, spending time together and talking on a gorgeous afternoon. That didn't have much to do with the Segway tour, though. The tour guide was nice enough, but he knew lots more about the Segway than about Chicago. So the "tour" was really just a series of standing in front of fountains and whatnot and giving cute, but rehearsed bits of trivia. A plus: you cover plenty of ground, and get some nice views at some spots. The Segway itself is a weird machine. Steering it isn't intuitive; most of our group had trouble getting the hang of it. (Left/right is a handlebar ring that felt like a motorcycle throttle.) It's less comfortable than it looks, mainly because you can't shift your feet around the way you normally would just standing around, so your feet go to sleep. Generally, it seems pretty safe. On the other hand, it would be very easy to crash one of these, and the guide (and the liability waivers we had to sign beforehand) made it clear that crashing one would cost us $5,000. Bottom line: it ain't worth the money. Try the Architectural Boat Tour instead, or one of the great tours run out of the Chicago History Museum. Or, if you want some beautiful views, borrow a bike and go tool around on that!

We did a 10 a.m. park park glide tour on a Saturday. What a way to see the parks! Andrew, our tour guide was great and riding the Segway was a blast. Instruction was superb and the group size was manageable. Highly recommend - worth every penny.

I am from Chicago, my husband had never been to Chicago and we booked a trip so I could show him my hometown. We signed up for several tours around the city so he could see as much as possible in 2 and 1/2 days. We took this tour and it was the best tour we took. Our tour guide was Laura and she was great. She took her time to show us how to use the Segway and made sure we were comfortable on them. Her knowledge of the city and the sights was great. She answered every question we had. You could tell she truly enjoys her job. The Segways took a bit of getting used to, I had never been on anything like it before, but I will certainly ride them again! Thank you so much for a great Chicago experience!

Too crowed or too slow

I would've expected the route to be detoured while the Taste of Chicago was going on. Instead we went directly through the crowd and that wasn't fun at all. We had a couple of incidents due to the crowd (stumbling off Segway, etc). I suppose that may be why our Segways were set at such a slow speed. I've been on several tours in other states and we were always able to gradually increase the speed. When we finally got into open space, it was frustrating to only be able to go 6 miles an hour. The tour was ok, but I wouldn't do it again.

We loved it!

We are two adults in our fifties with our twenty something daughter. The two other people on the tour were also in their fifties I'd say. We all loved it and had no problems at all. Chicago is gorgeous and we never could have done all that walking. Our guide was fantastic. Do it!

This was my wife's and my first time on a Segway. We were very comfortable on the ride within minutes of getting on. It is a great way to see the city. The tour guide was familiar with the area and provided enough detail to be able to appreciate what we were seeing. I will look for Segway tours of anywhere we go in the future.

I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to stay on the Segway, but it was very easy and I had a wonderful time. Dave the tour guide was the best. We had a ball and really enjoyed the day. I wish it could of been a 1/2 day tour instead of just 2 hours. I'm going to look for one to rent by my home.
