Bert, our guide, was very knowledgeable and even provided some details which the chocolatiers didn't! He was very pleasant and enthusiastic about his job. I would definitely recommend the tour for people of all ages - there's something for everyone.

Carmen was great, very helpful and nice. Be prepared to be indulgent and spoiled! My mom and I loved every minute of it. Be sure you use the bathrooms at Saks before the tour because there are no bathrooms on the tour. La Masion du Chocolat has the best chocolate. Try the caramel and mint ganache, amazing!

The New Cuisine Chocolate Tour was a great way to spend a Sunday with family in town. Two hours is the perfect amount of time and there was just enough anecdote peppered with education to make the tour interesting and not at all boring. We made some amazing chocolate discoveries in Soho that will serve as invaluble outlets for gifts -- or just plain chocolate cravings. Carmen is fun and knowlegdeable and I think my family enjoyed her nearly as much as the creme brulee chocolate at Klee.

My sister was in town visiting for her birthday weekend in NYC and we took the tour with Bert on a Friday afternoon. It was fantastic. As a local New Yorker, I had visited some of the chocolate shops on the tour, but most of them were a new experience for me -- they were all fabulous. Bert was an excellent tour guide -- extremely knowledgable about the art and history of chocolate. My sister and I had a great time (we were a bit spoiled too, because it was just the two of us, and it was like having a private tour guide). My understanding and appreciation of fine chocolate has gone way up. Loved it!

If you love chocolate and want to try the best, this is a great afternoon activity. It was fun and leisurely. Our tour guide Bert was lively and informative and seemed to really enjoy the tour himself.

Great Tour

For anyone who has the time, I highly suggest taking both this tour and the Luxury Tour so you can see the dichotomy of the types of places that are in NYC and the types of shops that are becoming popular. I loved three of the shops, one I was not too hot on but thats just personal snobbery preference for chocolate. The tour is much shorter than the Luxury tour, but no less interesting or flavorful. The tour guides are knowledgeable and interesting to talk to and not snobby or arogant, which you can get from the other food tours in the city. Highly suggested for anyone who is a tourist or a NYC native, it's a good break from the normal tourist junk. The area in which this tour places you at the finish can be great for spending the rest of your day as well.

What a great tour! The weather was awesome for late Feb and our tour guide, Burt, was super friendly while he shared some truly interesting facts about chocolate. The only place that was less worth it than the others was D&G where the chocolate was just okay, but I guess it's all about the experience of trying chocolate that costs more per piece than the cab ride back to my hotel! Loved, loved, loved RichArt and the other stops were also amazing. I bought way more chocolate than I ever thought I would. Just a great overall experience that I would recommend to anyone looking for something special and different to do in NYC. Beautiful job, Burt!!! Thanks for so much fun!!

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE I TAKE THE TOUR. AFTER THE TOUR WAS FINISHED I WAS REALLY AMAZED WHITH IT. I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF IT, NO MATTER THE COLD NOR THE WALKING. THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE MOMENTS OF MY WEEKEND TRIP TO NEW YORK. I RECOMEND IT TO EVERYONE WHO LIKE ME LOVES CHOCOLATE.

A Wonderful Afternoon of Chocolate!

It was a super cold day in NYC (9 degrees), so our group was very small. Carmen took us to five really wonderful chocolatiers. Charbonnel et Walker was our first stop inside of Saks 5th Ave. Everyone was super nice and helpful. They are a British chocolatier so the aromas and flavors are very sweet and different. I bought a box. Next was La Maison Dur Chocolat at Rockefeller Center. Great presentation and chocolates. Definitely try both the milk and dark hot chocolate. It's like nothing you've ever had! They were out of the specific bars to melt for the hot chocolate so they are shipping me all of the ingredients and recipe next week. Of course, I also bought a box. Next stop was Richart. Very clean inside, very modern feel. The chocolates are very special. There are layers inside the outer coating; basil and tarragon, lavender, saffron, vanilla and grape, lime and grapefruit (to name a few). I could not leave there without buying a box! Next was Martine's inside Bloomies. It was not one of my favorite stops because there was a very stereotypical French feel inside. It didn't feel very welcoming. However, the chocolates are amazing and they make them fresh every day right there in the shop. So, you kind of have to let the whole atmosphere part of it go and just buy a box, which I did. Our last stop was quite special. Debauve & Gallais on East 69th. They also make their chocolates fresh. D&G was started around 260 years ago by the chemist of Marie Antoinette and Napoleon. They were the only French chocolatier allowed to use the seal of the Royal Family. The seal is on every box and it's quite beautiful. Check out their website for more details. It is the most expensive I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of chocolate. Around $500 for a box of 36. I was able to get a small box of a very tasty assortment for $110. It was worth every penny. I learned a lot on this tour. Not only were the chocolatiers extremely giving but also Carmen knows what she's talking about. She is filled with knowledge and can really tell you what to look for while tasting. Most of us just eat about four pieces before we know it and don’t savor each bite. This will make you slow down a bit and see why this is such an art. I had a really great time! What about all that chocolate I bought? Well, four of my closest friends are coming over Friday night and we are having an evening of wine and chocolate by the fire. One final note. There is a bit of walking involved in the tour and Carmen is more than happy to modify the tour for your needs so don't be shy in asking. I would suggest sticking with the tour offered even if you have to grab a cab and get from one location to another. Don't miss this. It's really a wonderful afternoon!

If I hadn't taken this tour, it wouldve taken me forever to think of how to find these great chocolatiers in NYC. The tour was great and our tour guide was supurb. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is a foodie or just a chocolate lover. There is ALOT of walking, but its a good way to burn off all of those calories. This is also a great way to sample expensive chocolates that you probably wouldn' normally buy. I think they might be beetr suitted removing the first stop in Saks 5th Avenue and adding a different location. Their products were mediocre compared to the rest. Michel Richard's chocolates are beyond amazing.

Very intersting tour with interesting shops. Information was quite enough. A good selection of different chocolate shops. May were interested in more tasting . I would recommend a better meeting place. Saks is to crowdy.

I took this tour while on a recent trip to NYC with my sister. We enjoyed the different chocolates and the talks that we received at each location. My only complaint is that the tour could either add a few more stops or decrease the price slightly.

The tour size was kept small and was conducted in a very informal fashion which made it all the more enjoyable. The tour progressed at a leisurely pace and I relished the fact that you had more than adequate time to purchase more chocolates if needed. Our guide was very knowledgeable in the realm of chocolates and made great suggestions on what to try/not try. I felt that the overall selection of venues was carefully thought out and had a good representation of European chocolates. Although, I must comment on that the Irish shop despite having a very tasty hot chocolate drink, had a limited selection of chocolates that did not quite fit the style of the other 4 shops. To recap - a wonderful experience indeed. I will definitely be going back to visit a few of those shops on my own, some I probably would have never found had it not been for the tour!

We had such a great time on the tour. My sister and I took my mom for her birthday. The tour guide, Bert, was really nice. He called us when it got close to noon to make sure we were on our way. It was nice of him, instead of just leaving without us. He was very knowledgeable and said happy birthday! to our mom. The chocolates and hot chocolate were delicious. It was raining, but it really didn't matter. We didn't even notice because we had such a good time. We told some friends about it when we got back home and recommended it on Facebook. Thanks again!
