Delicious chocolate sampling

I took this tour while on a recent trip to NYC with my sister. We enjoyed the different chocolates and the talks that we received at each location. My only complaint is that the tour could either add a few more stops or decrease the price slightly.

Very intersting tour with interesting shops. Information was quite enough. A good selection of different chocolate shops. May were interested in more tasting . I would recommend a better meeting place. Saks is to crowdy.

My family very much enjoyed our chocolate tour in Soho! Our guide, Carmen, was informative and enjoyable. She knows her chocolate and now so does my family! Even my 11-year-old nephew had a great time! Our thanks to Carmen!

This was a great afternoon of chocolate. I am glad that we did this tour of New York with the added bonus of chocolate in between.

The chocolate was great

The chocolates were not just great but fantastic and the people in some of the shops not particularly informative, but friendly. The guide seemed rushed, and could have provided more information and background. If the weather hadn't been just about perfect for a December afternoon, it could have been pretty boring.

The tour was just the right amount of interesting facts and wonderful tasting. There is a moderate amount of walking so wear comfortable walking shoes.

If I hadn't taken this tour, it wouldve taken me forever to think of how to find these great chocolatiers in NYC. The tour was great and our tour guide was supurb. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is a foodie or just a chocolate lover. There is ALOT of walking, but its a good way to burn off all of those calories. This is also a great way to sample expensive chocolates that you probably wouldn' normally buy. I think they might be beetr suitted removing the first stop in Saks 5th Avenue and adding a different location. Their products were mediocre compared to the rest. Michel Richard's chocolates are beyond amazing.

We are a married couple with very small children. We took the tour as a special date for the two of us. It was terrific. We actually did both chocolate tours and they were equally good. I think we prefered the uptown tour. The shopkeepers on those were much more interesting and friendly. Carmen was our guide and we could not have asked for better.

A Wonderful Afternoon of Chocolate!
Fri, Jan 26, 07   12:00 PM rhodesfilm Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
It was a super cold day in NYC (9 degrees), so our group was very small. Carmen took us to five really wonderful chocolatiers. Charbonnel et Walker was our first stop inside of Saks 5th Ave. Everyone was super nice and helpful. They are a British chocolatier so the aromas and flavors are very sweet and different. I bought a box. Next was La Maison Dur Chocolat at Rockefeller Center. Great presentation and chocolates. Definitely try both the milk and dark hot chocolate. It's like nothing you've ever had! They were out of the specific bars to melt for the hot chocolate so they are shipping me all of the ingredients and recipe next week. Of course, I also bought a box. Next stop was Richart. Very clean inside, very modern feel. The chocolates are very special. There are layers inside the outer coating; basil and tarragon, lavender, saffron, vanilla and grape, lime and grapefruit (to name a few). I could not leave there without buying a box! Next was Martine's inside Bloomies. It was not one of my favorite stops because there was a very stereotypical French feel inside. It didn't feel very welcoming. However, the chocolates are amazing and they make them fresh every day right there in the shop. So, you kind of have to let the whole atmosphere part of it go and just buy a box, which I did. Our last stop was quite special. Debauve & Gallais on East 69th. They also make their chocolates fresh. D&G was started around 260 years ago by the chemist of Marie Antoinette and Napoleon. They were the only French chocolatier allowed to use the seal of the Royal Family. The seal is on every box and it's quite beautiful. Check out their website for more details. It is the most expensive I have ever seen, and I have seen a lot of chocolate. Around $500 for a box of 36. I was able to get a small box of a very tasty assortment for $110. It was worth every penny. I learned a lot on this tour. Not only were the chocolatiers extremely giving but also Carmen knows what she's talking about. She is filled with knowledge and can really tell you what to look for while tasting. Most of us just eat about four pieces before we know it and don’t savor each bite. This will make you slow down a bit and see why this is such an art. I had a really great time! What about all that chocolate I bought? Well, four of my closest friends are coming over Friday night and we are having an evening of wine and chocolate by the fire. One final note. There is a bit of walking involved in the tour and Carmen is more than happy to modify the tour for your needs so don't be shy in asking. I would suggest sticking with the tour offered even if you have to grab a cab and get from one location to another. Don't miss this. It's really a wonderful afternoon!

Something fun, other than Broadway

We were looking for something to do other than the usual New York shopping and shows. The tour included a well versed guide who enjoyed the art of chocolate and some delicious tastings in the finest chocolate shops in the city. Although pricey, the tour provided 2 pieces of chocolate of your choice at 5 different shops, all with different specialities. More chocolate than I was able to sample during the tour but wrapping it to go was not an issue, and my estimation is that we received almost the full amoung paid for the tour in chocolate samples. Well worth the experience and lovely people on the tour as well. We enjoyed talking to people from overseas and mingling with others. The walking part wasn't too difficult either as the locations were all pretty close in proximity. Great way to spend a few hours!

Fantastic Experience! Four Star Tour Guide!!!

I recently booked the walking chocolate tour as a valentines day gift for my girlfriend. When I first explained to her what we would be doing, she seemed interested, but not overly enthusiastic. As soon as we arrived at the first chocolate stop on the tour, her mood defiantly changed and couldn't stop raving afterwards about how much fun it was. The tour guide in-particular made the experience. He had told us this was his first tour for this company but he performed like an Ace. Giving relevant information, insider tips, and never crossing the line of being excessively informative or annoying. When we went to a chocolate shop that wasn't as willing to speak to the group on their products (and that only happened at one stop by the way, all the other shops were amazingly welcoming) he picked up the slack without missing a beat and gave our group a quick history and recommendations of the chocolate shop. I have family from out of state and I will DEFIANTLY be taking this tour again with them when they come to visit. I can't say enough. Absolutely worth every penny.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE I TAKE THE TOUR. AFTER THE TOUR WAS FINISHED I WAS REALLY AMAZED WHITH IT. I ENJOYED EVERY SECOND OF IT, NO MATTER THE COLD NOR THE WALKING. THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE MOMENTS OF MY WEEKEND TRIP TO NEW YORK. I RECOMEND IT TO EVERYONE WHO LIKE ME LOVES CHOCOLATE.
