Great tour

We had a fabulous tour with Old Towne Carriage. Our tour guide (I think his name was Tyler) was knowledgeable and entertaining. I consider myself somewhat of a Civil War history buff, but our guiide imparted some interesting facts that were new to me. I would take a tour with Old Towne again.

We loved this carriage tour. Our guide was a very funny and also informative person. We loved hearing all about Charleston and the history of the different places we saw during the tour. Our guide kept the interest of my children and we really all loved the experience and would take this tour again when we come back to Charleston.

Nice tour - informative

I would recommend this tour. We had a nice, informative and relaxing ride around the Charleston area. We went to the Ansonborough area. Our guide did a good job of giving us details on the Ansonborough area of Charleston. We previously had a bus tour of Charleston. I am glad we did both. The Olde Towne Carriage ride complemented the bus tour.

This was a fantastic tour for someone who has limited time in Charleston. The driver/guide provided an excellent description of the things we saw, the houses, buildings and the history of the area. I plan to do it again when I return to Charleston.

I loved the ride and the scenery, but would have liked more historical details along the ride. We had a number "2" tag and I remember a little more history the last carriage ride I took thru Charleston.

Carriage Tour a "Must Do" in Charleston
Fri, Apr 2, 10   12:00 PM eileen96 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Historic Carriage Tours are a "Must Do" in Charleston. We take a tour every time we visit, and we learn something new and interesting. Due to the large number of tourists and carriage tours, the city requires the carriage companies to load passengers onto their carriage, then the driver must stop on the next block to be assigned a route number. This only takes a few seconds and you are on your way. You won't know what route your tour has until they get their number, but each route is unique and interesting. I highly recommend a tour that is one hour, and recommend not going in the heat of the day, since the availability of the breeze has a lot to do with the tide changes, and the summers get very hot. Booking tickets on-line assures you a guarenteed time, without waiting, but be sure to bring your printed on-line confirmation information. All tour guides are required to pass a test to be a tour guide, thus you are pretty much guaranteed an accurate and informative tour. Don't forget sunscreen. Though the carriages are covered, the angle of the sun, and an outer seat, can result in some sun exposure. Be sure the kids use the rest room before you start your tour. Most tours allow you to bring water bottles on board, though some prefer that you not snack, because of the crumbs and clean up issues. Enjoy!

we had a very hard time hearing the tour guide. she was very pleasant and informative, but we were sitting on the last row of the carriage and could barely hear her. we enjoyed the ride through the historic district, but wished we could have learned more.

Seeing the town with Harry (the horse)
Sun, Mar 21, 10   10:00 AM BikerBoy Unspecified Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our tour leader Chris and his trusty steed Harry provided us with a very informative tour of lovely Charleston. It was obvious that Chris knew the city and its history well, and Harry knew the route. Our carriage fit 6 people comfortably (2 per row) so that there were no 'bad' seats for those wishing to take photographs. The entire Olde Towne staff was very professional, we'd made reservations online prior to arriving in Charleston, and the entire experience went very smoothly. We would recommend them very highly.

Excellent way to see a Beautiful City
Thu, Mar 18, 10   3:00 PM BJFERREBEE Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We had the pleasure of touring with our guide Kathryn and Clydesdale, Charlie, for a beautiful and informative 1 hour carriage tour on 3-18-2010. Our guide was very knowledgable not only about the history and architechture of the city and its people, but also of Charlie. Having grown up around horses, she proved very capable of handling an animal of that strength, size and determination, and made her guests feel very comfortable. The lottery system that the city uses to determine the carriage routes keeps the guides well rounded about the various attractions and historical sites that may be inquired about depending upon the route the carriage is given. It is highly recommended and a wonderful way to relax and be educated at the same time. We will definately use this company on our next visit to Charleston. BJ Ferrebee Dave G.

I wish I could remember the name of our driver. He was excellent--nice blend of information and humor. I have been on Charleston tours in the past, but I still learned new things. Our tour of the downtown area was very enjoyable. We were a little early and were able to see the care and attention the employees give the horses. My husband and I highly recommend this carriage tour company.
