Got there early on a Sunday morning for the first tour. The streets were not congested with people and cars, so the friendly, funny tour guide was able to really give a good tour....we loved the the whole experience!!

Palmetto Carriage Tour:route "3" of the projects

I was disappointed to take the Carriage Tour on Satuday, December 22 and there were few tourists in Charleston that day due to pre-Christmas and the cool weather. Our carriage pulled the lottery ball of "3" which was a tour of the Charleston projects and we learned that the housing projects in Charleston are built over the remains of 6,000 prisoner corpses. The projects themselves are "historically certified" with plaques due to their long age. I should have demanded my $88 back.

Our tour guide (Jenny) was great! We got a lot of history on our ride and enjoyed every minute of it. Our 14 year old daughter also enjoyed the history. It was related to us with amusing stories and anecdotes making it engaging for all of us. The mules were well cared for and neat to watch work.

We picked Palmetto Carriage Works out on the Internet, and are so happy we did. They were easy to find and the four hours of free parking in their lot, for purchasing our tickets on-line, was a real bonus. It gave us a chance to visit the market and have a leisurely lunch after the tour. Arriving at the Red Barn early, we were given a choice to wait until our reserved tour time, or go right away on an available carriage. We decided to go early and are so glad we did. Our tour route included the Battery. The guide was extremely knowledgeable of the history, architecture, and lore of Charleston. All in all, we had a truly wonderful time and will choose Palmetto Carriage Works the next time we are in Charleston.
