This is my second time using Palmetto Carriage Works. Again I was impressed. I love the fact that I can take my out of town guests all thru downtown Charleston without getting sore feet. Ken our tour guide was funny and knowledgeable. When we have family & friends visit we will be using Palmetto Carriage Works. |

It was a beautiful day for a carriage ride & tour. Our tour guide was well informed and made the tour interesting. The only downside to our experience was that Palmetto insisted on having four people to a seat. It was impossible to move with two large men on the seat and two women. There was no way to take a photo or see past the men. While on the tour we noticed the other carriage tours had three people to a seat. I felt that the for the money we paid it was sad to not be able to better enjoy the tour. The gentleman on the end was able to take great photos but those of us in the middle were smashed together. It was not pleasant being crammed so close to a stranger. That was my only complaint with the tour. If you don't want to be uncomfortable I would suggest checking with other tour companies and asking their policy before booking with Palmetto. BTW - The Harbor Cruise was wonderful and we totally enjoyed that excursion. |

We were seeking a way to see the most of Charleston in an hour. We were interested in historical information but did not have time for a two hour walking tour. We scheduled the Palmetto Carriage Works one-hour private tour through Zerve on-line. Ticketing was easy. There is a parking area very near the barn with friendly, helpful attendants.
As a horse owner, I have a keen eye for barn/horse conditions. The barn was clean and well kept. It was stocked with quality hay, shavings and clean water. The horses/mules were in great condition, obviously well kept. Farriers visit the barn frequently so the horses's shoes/hooves were in excellent shape. Of all the carriage tours I've ever taken, I felt most comfortable with the treatment of these draft animals.
We chose a day and time with perfect weather for our tour, October 4 at 2:00 p.m.. Our carriage driver and horse were the perfect team. Our driver (I'm so sorry I don't recall his name) was knowledgeable and a good host. Our carriage horse, Butterfinger, was a steady, dependable mare. There were three large people in our party. I think we would have been uncomfortable on the public carriage tour as the seats are packed with other folks. For the three of us, the $137.00 fee for the tour and ticketing was a great value. One cannot request a specific area of the city to tour. There is a city operated dispatch booth that directs each carriage to a specific route to avoid crowding. We were lucky enough to tour the French Quarter/Battery/Rainbow Row area. While it would be nice to be able to request a specific area to tour, I gather that's just not the way the city and the carriage operators have agreed to work their services.
We'd highly recommend the Palmetto Carriage Works private tour to others with similar requirements/interestes. |

We took the carriage as a quick way to see some of the city and learn some history about Charleston. The Guide was very interesting to listen to and very informative. He certainly knew a lot of the history and made teh ride that much more fun. I would recommend this to others visiting Charleston for the first time. |

Mark Jones was our driver, and as a "native South Carolinian", he had a lot of wonderful stories to share from his own childhood, too! The hour just flew by (and ended with my husband of 25 years presenting me with a beautiful diamond ring to celebrate our anniversary ~ not too shabby!). Enjoyed learning about historical Charleston immensely, and would recommend this activity to everyone! |

This tour was ideal. It made you feel a part of the history of the place, like a step back in time, going down the shaded streets in a buggy. Our driver was very skilled and fun I would love to go again.. |

The ride was smooth and the guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The old historical part of Charleston is pretty amazing and being in the open air of the carriage helped to transport you in time. Would suggest to take time of day into consideration on any carriage tour, the morning we went, the weather was perfect.
We were also impressed on how well the animals were kept, clean and well fed. Also noticed that shade was profided for those resting waiting for their next trip. I would recommend this company to anyone wanting a great touring experience. |
