Made us sit squished next to 2 big people
Fri, Jun 1, 12   4:15 PM ericayuen Female 30-39 Local Group of Friends
My friend and I are both petite females, and they made us sit in a row with 2 big people who we did not know. I had to spend an hour squished up next to a big male on a very hot day. I didn't really enjoy having his shoulders and thighs rub against mine for an hour =( They should not have seated us so closely like that.

Our guide, Andrew, gave a fun and informative narrative as we wound through the streets of historic Charleston. We had a great time, and recommend it highly.

Something different to do while in Charleston
Thu, May 31, 12   10:35 AM alinasls Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We liked the ride very much. Luckily, the route we were assigned (I believe it is the city who assigns each carriage a specific route) took us along the Battery and the most beautiful streets of Charleston. We will probably go again on our next trip to Charleston.

My family visitors enjoyed the tour very much. They had never been to Charleston. I would, however, love it if we could select the specific tour we were to take.

It was hard choosing a tour with so many to pick from, but I feel like we lucked out! We had a great tour with Jim, who was awesome! He was very knowledgable and quite funny too! I feel like we saw many parts of the city and learned a bunch. He was always able to answer any questions as well. A great way to get a lay of the land and see Charleston! Would highly recommend!

Cancelled Harbor Tour after bought tickets
Sun, May 27, 12   12:30 PM snbrandt Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
We bought the tickets for the combo carriage tour and harbor tour approximately 3 hours prior to the time we were to be there. When we arrived they told us that the harbor tours were cancelled due to rough waters from the tropical depression Beryl. They weren't sure how to go about giving us a refund but after a while of this person asking another person and then another we were able to get our full refund for the harbor tour portion and still take the carriage tour. So a word of wisdom is to check with the company before you schedule the harbor portion because you never know if they are going to cancel it due to water conditions. Otherwise, had a great time on our tour, informative and fun.

Excellent tour guide, poor administrative mgmt
Sun, May 27, 12   12:30 PM JCPlunkett Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable (she had been doing tours since 1987) and did a good job in sharing and making the tour interesting. We were disappointed in the administrative management of the "reservation" and actual start of the tour. We made the reservation for 12:30pm, and were told by Zerve that we'd be likely to start within 20 min of the reservation time, but no longer than 30 min later. We arrived at 12:15pm, and asked to go as soon as possible, and were told it would be before 1:00. (We had a baby sitter that had a hard stop at 2:30pm). We finally were called at 1:07pm ...and left the Red Barn around 1:10pm. The guide returned us at 2:20pm, which was 10 min longer than the advertised 60 min, so we had to hustle out to get to our baby sitter. I would have complained to the manager, but we could not spare the extra minutes. I also disagree with your backward philosophy ... a reservation for a time, should be for that time. If you want to require someone to come 30 min before the time of the reservation so they can be queued up, that's fine....but don't take someone's money in advance for a specific time, then not give that person a priority for making that time a reality. This was the Sunday of the Memorial Day weekend, so my experience may be atypical, but the advance reservation should be given the priority. My belief is that management was trying to accommodate walk-in traffic, which is understandable, but never at the expense of those that have made the advanced reservation.

We throughly enjoyed our experience with Palmetto Carriage Works. The reservation system, the available parking, the parking attendants, the location in the middle of downtown, the check-in process and people, and Matt the carriage tour guide were all excellent ! We will definitely do it again with family and friends. Thank you, Peter

The folks at Palmetto Carriage works were great. I reserved tickets online and then was running late for the scheduled time. I called and they graciously moved our time back. The guide was very knowledgeable and the tour was fun!

Our group consisted of 2 locals and 2 out-of-towners. The broading process for the tour was simple and without hassel. We arrived early at our site and were able to go on an earlier tour. Even as a local, I learned so many interesting tidbits during our tour. Our guide was witty, pleasent, and very accomodating. It was a perfect way to spend a Saturday morning.
