Very Interesting Walking Tour`

I had taken the Revolutionary walking tour last year and was glad I was in NYC to sign up for the civil war one. It was very interesting. The tour guide knows her history and you can tell she loves history. Took us to areas I never would have found on my own. Learned information I never knew before - how much NYC was connected with the civil war. I recommend it for anyone who is interested in history and interested in a different type of walking tour.

Highly recommended tour. The tour was interesting and as someone knowledgeable about New York City I learned a lot.

Civil War Era Comes Alive

We so much enjoyed the Revolutionary War Walking Tour from Patriot Tours that we eagerly signed up for this one. We were delighted to see that Karen would be our guide for this tour as well. We knew nothing about Civil War era history in New York, and were fascinated by the details and stories that made this time period come alive for us. My grandfather was born to Irish immigrants in lower Manhattan around 1860, and Karen was able to paint a vivid picture of the hardships and struggles that residents of this area faced at that time. In addition, we learned about some fascinating characters and political scandals - and marveled at the magnificent architectural details that Karen pointed out to us on at least a dozen buildings. We highly recommend this tour and will gladly take it again ourselves on our next visit!

Good Walking Tour

I didn't find that there were many important events and artifacts connected tot he Civil War in New York City, with the Draft Riots being the most important. However, I thought the guide did an excellent job of relating what was there. She was inthusiastic and very articulate. I really enjoyed listening to her. Her mentioning of other non-Civil War, yet related, significant events which took place in NYC within 20 or 30 years of the Civil War also helped make it a better tour.

This was our second tour with Karen and it was, once again, fantastic. We are anxiously awaiting news of a a third historic tour on New York.

The Rudest Tour Guide(owner) Ever!

It took us 30 minutes to find the meeting place - the NYC Police couldn't figure it out either, but eventually we stumbled on the location. We expressed our difficulties finding the meeting place, and several others in the group expressed similar concerns. Then the Owner/Tour guide said the directions were "easy to understand," but we and others noted that they were not, and those of us who speak English as a second language had particular difficulty with following them (not to mention the cab driver, MTA employee, and the traffic police officer). She actually told us that maybe we should just get our money back since we wouldn't understand the tour anyhow since we couldn't understand the directions to find the meeting spot ... since English was not our first language and we were not able to follow her perfect instructions. Apparently, those of us whose first language is not English are too stupid to participate in this activity. We decided to give her a chance to redeem herself, but she continued to be rude during the tour and probably worse, the majority of her content was not civil war era information. We paid for a civil war era history tour, but instead more than 50% of the information she presented pertained to after 1900 and much of it regarded architecture. We left during the last 15 minutes because the rudeness directed at us never let up. BTW, I am a retired American history professor . This tour guide/owner needs to work on her civil war information, customer service orientation, and manners.

I certainly enjoyed my Civil War Walking Tour. My guide was very informative and friendly. I liked that she had pictures and newspaper articles from the era we were discussing as they made everything much clearer in regards to the demographics of that time and the present. I would highly recommend this tour to other Civil War buffs, and I plan to take her Revolutionary War tour if I return in the future.

Enjoyable, a little tweaking maybe

Our Civil War guide would probably enjoy some of the walking tours offered in Charleston, SC. Civil War was not all about slavery. States and individual rights very much a part of the conflict, as was (is) the propensity of Northern Protestant clergy to know best for all. On the whole, we enjoyed our tour. Never thought I would enjoy something like this. The tour was very informative and well presented. So many things you take for granted until they are pointed out to you. Loved the tour

Our guide was knowledgable and told us about New York's role in the Civil War as well as other information that came up as we were walking. It was well worth the money and the time.
