| Although we grew up in the New York City area and have been to Manhattan many, many times, this tour really provided a new prespective. Karen's enthusiastic story telling and obvious love of history allowed us to see and feel lower Manhattan as it was in the mid 1800's. The architecture of the period remains in pieces for the trained eye to see...and Karen is good at pointing out what remains and filling in the gaps of what has not survived. Karen's descriptions and stories of the notable people of the time transport you back to that time. This was a most enjoyable 2 1/2 hours. |

| My wife and I took this tour on May 13th. Our guide was very personable and approachable. She made us the center of her attention and was open to any questions, even if they didn't pertain to the current topic. Very warm personality and told about places and events with energy to keep it interesting. You can tell she enjoys what she does and we look forward to taking another historic walking tour on our next visit to NYC in 2010. |

| My co-workers and I enjoyed this very informative and fun tour of lower Manhattan and the Civil Era. Our guide was very well informed and very energetic. She provided so much fascinating info many "history" buffs may not have known about that time period.
Highly recommend it and we look forward to joining another tour by this company. |

| I had taken the Revolutionary walking tour last year and was glad I was in NYC to sign up for the civil war one.
It was very interesting. The tour guide knows her history and you can tell she loves history. Took us to areas I never would have found on my own. Learned information I never knew before - how much NYC was connected with the civil war.
I recommend it for anyone who is interested in history and interested in a different type of walking tour. |

| The tour was fantastic! I knew very little about New York City's role in the civil war apart from a few highlights. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and the I learned a lot about how the city influenced the war. I know quite a bit about the overall war, but had no idea of all the ties to the war effort.
The buildings and streets you walk down are amazing and the visuals along the way also help to bring the story alive. Even if you do not like history much, the tour is a wonderful way to see some of the side streets and lesser known places in lower Manhattan.
I can't wait to take my husband with me sometime to see the same tour! |

| This is a terrific tour mainly because of the energy and enthusiasm of the tour guide. She is engaged, did a lot or work to get some of the visual aids, and is ready to answer questions. Admittedly many of the original structures are long gone, but the visual aids help. Also sites such as the Cooper Union are too far uptown to be part of the tour. |

| Last year I took Patriot Tours' Revolutionary War Tour and loved it. Last week I took the Civil War Era Tour and it was great too. Karen really knows her stuff. The tour was full of entertaining anecdotes and she painted a picture of 19th century New York that made Lower Manhattan come alive for me. As far as I am concerned, this is a must-do for both travellers and New Yorkers alike. I can't wait for Karen to come up with her next tour. |

| This tour was well constructed and covered a variety of Civil War topics. The story about General Daniel Sickles and his ties to New York was interesting. Would have been great to hear more about New York's contribution to the War - i.e. how many regiments came from New York, how many men enlisted, and some famous individuals. The information about the 1863 draft riots was revealing - it would have been great to get more details on this, some example incidents during it, and how it changed the city afterwards. Overall, the tour provides a good introduction to an admittedly large subject matter that could support an even longer tour and route. |
