Outstanding tour

Karen was a knowledgable and passionate tour leader. She was outstanding!! She went past time with our permission because of her passion for the topic and her desire for us to learn as much as we could. She knew her field and covered it in a way helpful for a novice. While I'm a history buff, my wife is not and my wife learned a great deal and thoroughly enjoyed Karen. The revolutionary war tour of lower Manhattan was tremendous. I'd recommend it to anyone. Karen had superb knowledge of of the colonial history of NYC. Her presentation was enthusiastic, thorough and well organized. We appreciated the prints and maps she showed us. I'll recommended the tour to everyone and so will my wife and brother.

Well prepared tour guide

Karen the tour leader was excellently prepared and informed. It would be interesting to know how she prepared the tour. Is she a professional historian? She knew all sorts of historical detail about New York's role in the events of the Reveolutionary Era, and had made copies to pass around of a number of documents from the period. There were only six of us on the tour, which made asking questions possible, and made it possible to keep the group together and close enough to hear her-- which might have been much more difficult if the group had been 12 or 15. It was a hot August afternoon, and our interest flagged a bit in the last 1/2 hour, but ...we had another appointment to make in 20 minutes, and we had already walked a mile or two just before starting-- and many miles the day before, so it's possible that if we were fresh the tour would have seemed just the right length. Fortunately another couple whispered to us that tips would no doubt be welcome, since we might not have thought of that on our own, but we quite willingly pressed $10 into her hand while shaking hands goodbye. It's advertised as rain or shine, but it's hard to see how it could have proceeded in cold or rainy weather.

My husband and I took the tour on Wednesday 8/20/08. We had a wonderful time! Our guide Karen was just bursting with knowledge and information to share with her guests. Our group size was just right so we could gather around and hear what was being said clearly. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone!

Revolutionary Reflections

My work involves research, reading and writing on George Washington and his family; some of my interest in this tour stemmed from my work. As a former New York resident, I also wanted to find out more about the history of Lower Manhattan, particularly during the Revolutionary War period. Our guide, Karen, could not have been better! Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of her subject were outstanding. Every minute of the tour was crammed with fascinating tidbits and facts about personalities, buildings, and events associated with each of the areas that we visited. It is unlikely that you would ever find the detail and depth of information that Karen provided, in any other reference written or verbal. We enjoyed the Revolutionary War tour so much that we decided to take the Civil War tour as well. My husband and I highly recommend this tour to others, and we will definitely take it again ourselves on our next visit to New York!

Mixed group of 10-from 20 something to 60 something and in between-from extremely kmowledgeable to not nearly as knowledgeable-a pleasure for all. Karen is a magnificent guide. She has in depth knowledge of well known and less known info-she has lots of anecdotes and clearly loves her subject and sharing info. She is extremely responsive to particular interests and queries of group members. Lots of areas of NY covered. Well planned and well executed. If you go, you will not be disappointed.

One of the Best

This tour was the best tour we had while on vacation in New York. It provided us with history that is sometimes glossed over or left out in history books. All we hear about is how Boston and Philadelphia played an important role in the revolution, but I had no idea the impact that New York had. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and provided an excellent experience. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.

What a wonderful way to spend the 4th of July weekend than walking the actual streets and learning the history that played such an important role in the birth of our nation. Our guide was incredible, she made her stories come alive. Probably one of the best walking tours I've taken, and living in the Nation's capital, I can honestly say I've been on a few. A must-do while in NYC.
