My dad, my 16 year old son, and I took the Revolutionary Tour this past Thursday (4/05/07). We were very impressed with how knowledgeable our tour guide, Karen, was on the history of New York during this time period. Her passion and enthusiasm came through. A wonderful experience, and very enjoyable. We learned a lot.
Since Karen has actually worked in this area of New York, she was able to relate the history of New York with some of the current events since 9/11. I especially appreciated the e-mail communication prior to the tour. Very quick turn around on all my questions, etc.
Excellent tour. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in Revolutionary Era history and points of interest in lower Manhattan

This tour was the best part of our trip to NYC. Karen Quinones was so informative and knowledgeable about the years surrounding the revolutionary war. She had terrific stories about the people that lived during that time and not just facts. My mother and I took the walking tour in the end of March, 2007 and we both loved the tour with Karen. If you love American History you will love this tour. We could have walked and talked with you for hours!!
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience,
Karen and Iris from Delaware |

Our guide provided a wonderful supplement to what histories we've read regarding a period in history that was revolutionary not only on our continent but in Europe as well.
Walking the ground provided a feel for forces at work within a very small area that influenced the thought processes, strategies and tactics of both military and political leaders in the years that led up to the American Revolution.
Seeing the terrain as it was in 1775 through the revolution, you gain an up close feel for the worries and frustrations that faced Washington, Howe, and Clinton when they considered their strategies. We came to appreciate the importance to both sides represented by New York and its harbor. Our guide wove into the story of New York the influences of the colonies to the northeast by personalities such as John Adams and Samuel Adams, and the colonies from the south through personalities such as George Washington as commander of the continentals.
Our guide provided insight into some of the more interesting New York native personalities who posititioned themselves to be successful no matter what the outcome of the war. We developed a great deal of respect for these characers who worked for the welfare of their families no matter what ,and who played key roles in slowing the progress of the British and provided invaluable intelligence to the rebel cause.
Our guide was knowledgeable on the terrain and how it affected both the British and American forces; the landmarks in lower Manhattan that date to the Revolutionary era and the roles they played as a backdrop to the revolution; and the personalities at work during the period -- famous personalities, infamous personalities, personalities of local fame, and personalities little mentioned in highschool and college history books.
We're looking forward to the Civil War tour in a future trip to New York |

My wife and I took this tour on a somewhat cold and blustery day, but the time just flew by for us. My wife had just read 1776 by David McCullough so she was very interested in this tour and she was not at all disappointed. The tour was small and they do prefer to keep them small. The sites we saw were very well planned out and the story was well thought through and extremely informative. We did not spend much time in the sites which is fine because it's much more important to hear more interesting details from the guide. We went back to several sites the next day. Certainly, the best part was the knowledge and enthusiasm of the tour guide. I would recommend this tour to any with an interest in our country's history. |

I had fun. I learned many interesting things about NY and the revolutionary war. I got some exercise. The tour guide was enthusiastic, her fund of information was extensive. Her presentation was perfectly enjoyable. It was a great way to spend an afternoon, and I learned something besides. This tour guide is a gem. |

It was a cold windy day in downtown Manhattan and I was expecting there to be a little more walking in this tour. I found the content interesting and, as a native, learned a lot about revolutionary NYC that I never knew. I found learning the history of things I've walked past a million times also very compelling.
Still, it seems the tour would have been more appropriate for a summer day. In most cases we would walk half a block and then stop for 10-20 mins hearing another interesting bit of history. I suggest that on cold days the tour should be designed for a little more walking while outside, and a little more than two stops inside (we stopped only in St. Pauls and Trinity). |
