I Felt Like One of the Sons of Liberty

I'm a young medical student who has recently developed a side interest in the Revolutionary War. A couple of summers ago, I read several books on the subject (e.g. 1776, John Adams), and wanted to get a better feeling for the zeitgeist of that incredible moment that would change the world forever. Karen provides just that on this tour, bringing to the table a cache of knowledge that would rival the National Archives, and an ability to recreate the moment with quotes and stories that make the history come alive. Her intimate presentation style made me feel like I was being guided through the town by a close and knowledgeable friend, rather than a hired hand lost in a gigantic tour company. Her passion and enthusiasm for the subject is both unique and tangible, and I would give this tour my highest recommendation to anyone with even a fleeting interest in our country's exciting and inspiring past. Or, for that matter, our eerily familiar present... It'll be years before I get another vacation, but this one was well spent. Thanks a million!

Inspiring, entertaining and interesting NYC walk

I have always loved New York and had recently started to read up on the early history of the city which inspired me to want to know more so, knowing that I was visiting in eary August, I was really pleased to find the Patriot Walk advertised on line. Despite being a solo traveller, from the moment of my first enquiry I knew that I would be very much welcomed on the walk. The meeting place was easy to find and Karen, of Patriot Tours, was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable from the word go that it was impossible not to be immersed and almost transported back (even with the rush and madness of today's traffic in the city). She gave amazing descriptions of the events and places that surrounded us and as we walked, she pointed out all sorts of additional interesting facts and stories. I would thoroughly recommend the walk to any NYC tourist who wants to see more than just the bright lights.

Great information and very knowledgeable guide. She catered to everyone's knowledge level and was able to answer very specific questions from the more knowledgeable guests.

The tour was informative and pleasant. Our teenage grandsons shared their experiences on this tour with their parents as soon as they returned home. I consider to be myself well read on the revolutionary era but I gained a lot of knowledge with this tour because the guide is quite expert. She showed us the exact locations where the Sons of Freedon raised their Liberty Poles and where George Washington was sworn into office as President of the Unighted States. I hope that my words will incourage you to go on this tour.

First, let me comment that the tour guide, Karen is great. We meant to book the Patriot Tour for Friday but accidentally booked it for Saturday. I called her Friday morning and she said she'd be happy to run the tour on Friday afternoon, despite the fact that we ended up being the only ones on the tour. Of course, as a result of that, we got effectively a private tour and it was great. Karen was very knowledgeable, made the people and the places from the late 18th and early 19th centuries really come alive. She answered questions and provided great insight into many people you don't hear as much about in the history books. It had a truly personal feel. I know I am looking forward to returning to NYC, if only to try one of Karen's other tours.

The walking tour was entertaining, informative, and captivating. Our tour guide was enthusiastic and very well prepared. Talking about historic areas is not always easy because modern elements have taken over. But she made it very helpful with copies of flyers, maps and period pieces that brought the history to you . She would point to historic areas, show how they used to be, and discuss the relevance of changes that have taken place. The tour was also physically "doable". It was well paced between walking and listening without making it a strenuous workout for anybody. I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in our history. Our 21 year old son and his girfriend and I found this tour to be everything we wanted and more. THANK YOU
