Extremely Informative

This trip had been highly recommended by my brother. We are natives to the NYC area and I am somewhat familiar with the history of the region, but Karen's narration and documentation were above and beyond. She obviously has put a lot of time into research of the subject matter and has great documentation. The best part of the tour is it is run by someone who is excited about the subject matter and excited about the city and the region. That makes the tour exciting. She also knows how to tell a story which is absolutely necessary to make the experience exceptional. Am looking forward to taking the architectural tour for a deeper understanding of the architectural treasures downtown. Highly recommended.

Loved the tour and we'll definitely do another one with the company. The tour guide was excellent in her knowledge and her enthusiasm. As someone who is fairly well read on NYC History, the tour has some really great insights. Would totally recommend to others. Best, Liz Kressel and James Daly

very interesting but a little too much detail

The details were amazing but almost too much information to absorb in that format and created too much standing time at sites. Karen was great, friendly, energetic and prepared.

This is the fourth tour we have taken with Patriot Tours during our past three visits to New York City. Karen, our guide, knows her subject very well and provides background stories and insights into historical eras, persons, and events that truly make them come alive. All along the tour route, she also pointed out some interesting architectural features of the older buildings we passed. Downtown Manhattan is a relatively small, crowded area and its streets can often seem like soul-less canyons of glass and steel - but there is much beauty, as well as history, to be found there! Although we took this tour about two years ago, it was well worth repeating. When vacation is over and day-to-day life resumes, as time passes we tend to forget some of those great stories and little details that bring the past to life so vividly. Karen's energy, knowledge, enthusiasm and obvious love for history have made taking a tour from Patriot Tours an essential part of our New York City vacation.

Best Walking Tour I've Ever Had
Wed, Aug 4  10:00 AM denniskozak Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We walked about 50 feet and she pointed to a landmark, explained it, and began telling the history behind it, pointed across the street and told more history of the events. Before we walked the block I learned much. The guide was interesting, telling stories , shoowing drawing s of how the area used to look, and quoting lines of conversation from various people. In effect, her talking and descriptions made her sound like a actual observer of events. I would do it again and again, take more pictures. I realized how little of the history I knew, and this has helped me to do more reading so I can gain more the next time I take the tour. The tour guide has done a tremendous amount of research and honed her talk to be fascinating. I walked 90 minutes from the Port Authority to the tour(due to misreading the distance on the city map) and yet the 2.5 hr tour did not tire me out. The tour guide should be declared a NYC treasure. Should history be presented in such a way to our young students, I think then they would become fascinated with the subject and we could move away from the illeteracy of history that is prevalent. As you can tell, I would give the tour an A+, and i have told many friends about the trip.

great for even native New Yorkers who like history

She's a wonderfiully smart, intelligent and well-versed tour guide. She knows her stuff, and knows her history. She doesn't read from cue cards or a script. It's a great tour if you like history, even if you're a native Manhattanite like myself. Lotsof fun and i would highly reccomend to history lovers.

Great historical view of what lower manhattan was like just before and during the revolutionary war! Would highly recommend this to anyone interested in the area's history. I was with my husband, 19 year old daughter and 16 year old son and we all enjoyed it. Karen, our tour guide was great and very knowledgeable, not only about the history of the area, but about New York in general.

This walking tour of lower Manhattan was a highlight of our first trip to New York City. Our tour guide, Karen, was very knowledgeable about the people, places and events in New York that contributed to the formation of our country. The narrative was interesting and informative and the walk enjoyable. The time flew by. We will definitely take the other Patriot tours offered on our future visits to New York.

OUR history brought to life - you can touch it (literally), hear about it, and gain interactive insights in the events that shaped the founding of the country. Very powerful. Deja- vu. Best 2 hours you can spend in Manhattan.

I found the tour that Karen provided so informative! She is full of information that most people have never heard of! I loved hearing the back story of the drugstore chain Duane Reade. I certainly feel I got more bang for my buck with this type of tour as opposed to the other types available. And Karen is very interesting to listen to. You find yourself hanging on what she is saying, even despite the heat of the day! Take this tour, you won't be disappointed!

Interesting tour
Sat, Jun 19  1:00 PM mieisen Male 40-49 Local Family With Children
The tour was interesting. Karen talks about the ordinary people who lived and helped shape the era. While Hamilton was mentioned, he was not the star of the tour, it was more about the printers, tradesmen and mechanic’s of the era, and how they helped shape New York of the day and therefore the country today..

It is a great way to see downtown, learn some revolutionary war history and learn about early NYC. I wish there were a lot more of these kinds of tours.
