| Considering we started out in a (surprise) torrential downpour, it was terrific. It would have been better of course if the weather cooperated because there were early parts of the talk that were inaudible due to the severity of the rain and the fact that it echoed off of umbrellas and hoods, etc. and caused much fidgeting. To say that it was distracting is an understatement. but thankfully, it did stop within an hour. We also had periodic difficulty in hearing our guide because of the ubiquitous construction going on all around, especially down the narrow streets, such as Pearl and Maiden Lane. Maybe you should give her a microphone. (only kidding?) Other than that, I personally loved the synopsis of Manhattan's Revolutionary War era, seeing the corresponding locations in the flesh and especially hearing the spicier anecdotes of the characters involved. Fascinating stuff. And our guide was terrific; you could tell she knew a lot more than she was able to get out in the limited time we had, but she answered any and all questions with great proficiency and enthusiastiasm. The tour also provided a superb jumping off point for more in-depth explorations. Thanks again for a wonderful opportunity to fill in the details of our miraculous past. Well worth the time spent. | ||||||

| My husband and I were the only people who showed up for the walk. It was in the middle of the week in the off-season, but our tour went on as scheduled and we were treated to a "private" tour. I have been recommending the tour to everyone who is interested because it was enjoyable and informative. Most people here on the West Coast do not know about New York's Revolutionary Era history. And, the tour was a great way to orientate yourself to New York City. Highly recommended! | ||||||

| Karen did such a great job passing on her vast knowledge of revolutionary war New York history in an interesting and light hearted way that the time just flew by. I love history and this was a great treat for me and my friends. I highly recommend this tour to anyone of any age. | ||||||

| Our guide, Karen, was very knowledgeable and knew the history of New York (Revolutionary War Era) thoroughly. Presented a lot of information in an extremely interesting manner. Seeing the actual setting where some of the history she discussed took place made it all the better. In addition she also had early maps, etc., on hand to present as she talked. If we were in NYC longer, we'd take any tour that she is giving. | ||||||

| Our tour guide provided us with a thoughtful and complete review of New York's colonial history. She was enthusiastic and engaged us in the tour as well as pointed out modern day connections to history throughout the city. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning and learn more about our nations history. | ||||||

| This tour was well constructed and covered a variety of Civil War topics. The story about General Daniel Sickles and his ties to New York was interesting. Would have been great to hear more about New York's contribution to the War - i.e. how many regiments came from New York, how many men enlisted, and some famous individuals. The information about the 1863 draft riots was revealing - it would have been great to get more details on this, some example incidents during it, and how it changed the city afterwards. Overall, the tour provides a good introduction to an admittedly large subject matter that could support an even longer tour and route. | ||||||

| Opened up an amazing insight into a pivotal time in US history. Guide (think it was Karen) was a total enthusiast and amazingly well informed. Her understanding of the significance of the background as well as the events themselves added enormously to the quality of the occassion. | ||||||

| I didn't find that there were many important events and artifacts connected tot he Civil War in New York City, with the Draft Riots being the most important. However, I thought the guide did an excellent job of relating what was there. She was inthusiastic and very articulate. I really enjoyed listening to her. Her mentioning of other non-Civil War, yet related, significant events which took place in NYC within 20 or 30 years of the Civil War also helped make it a better tour. | ||||||

| I and my wife and daughter visited New York City for a week in mid August. I was mildly interested in the American Revolution in New York tour, my wife more so. All of us were surprised by how much we enjoyed this activity. Our teacher was knowlegable, able to tell an interested story over a period of 2 hours, and skilled in knowing what facts in the story were salient, which were not. She was also extremely enthusiastic, clearly enjoying her task. The experience as a whole felt more like a string of interesting discoveries, less like a straightforward lecture. Her narrative was well conceived to match the order of buildings and streets we visited, but also shaped nicely into a broader beginning-middle-end narrative. THe experience overall has encouraged me and my wife to begin reading more about this subject. Truly, this was one of the most enjoyable parts of our New York trip, and we strongly recommend it to other visitors. | ||||||

| Karen is the best. She has done extensive research to provide her clients with not only a historically interesting tour but her knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subjects are infectious. She manages to bring the history of New York alive with the stories of the people involved. This is NOT just a sight seeing tour that tells you a few facts and points out a few old buildings, you feel immersed in the events of the day. I have been to New York City twice and have taken the Civil War and Revolutionary War Tours, they are a highlight of both of my vacations. I look forward to going back to see what Karen has added to the line up. Dr. Curtis R. Wheatley | ||||||

| I'm local and was looking for something to do with my family from out of town -- people who are never satisfied. We signed up for the Revolutionary Tour and it was the best thing we did in NYC, and among the best "tourist" activities I've done PERIOD. When people think NYC, they think Broadway shows, shopping, etc., but I don't think people consider how NYC impacted the founding of America -- just as much as Boston or Williamsburg. Our guide, Karen, was friendly and super knowledgeable. We could tell that she had a passion for NY and history, not that she just memorized a script. She could answer any question related to the buildings, the time period, really anything. Karen kept a great pace and the time flew by. She peppered the more basic info -- the history of the buildings and whatnot-- with a lot of trivia about the people and politics of Revolutionary-era New York. And she was a total delight. Having taken other tours like this one in many American tourist areas (Boston, Virginia, DC) and abroad (London, Paris), this absolutely ranked at the top of my experiences. It's well worth the time and money. I highly recommend this tour for natives and tourists alike. | ||||||
