Thoughtfully links the modern city to theCivil War

| This tour was well constructed and covered a variety of Civil War topics. The story about General Daniel Sickles and his ties to New York was interesting. Would have been great to hear more about New York's contribution to the War - i.e. how many regiments came from New York, how many men enlisted, and some famous individuals. The information about the 1863 draft riots was revealing - it would have been great to get more details on this, some example incidents during it, and how it changed the city afterwards. Overall, the tour provides a good introduction to an admittedly large subject matter that could support an even longer tour and route. | ||||||

| Our tour guide provided us with a thoughtful and complete review of New York's colonial history. She was enthusiastic and engaged us in the tour as well as pointed out modern day connections to history throughout the city. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning and learn more about our nations history. | ||||||

| Our guide, Karen, was very knowledgeable and knew the history of New York (Revolutionary War Era) thoroughly. Presented a lot of information in an extremely interesting manner. Seeing the actual setting where some of the history she discussed took place made it all the better. In addition she also had early maps, etc., on hand to present as she talked. If we were in NYC longer, we'd take any tour that she is giving. | ||||||

| Karen did such a great job passing on her vast knowledge of revolutionary war New York history in an interesting and light hearted way that the time just flew by. I love history and this was a great treat for me and my friends. I highly recommend this tour to anyone of any age. | ||||||

| My husband and I were the only people who showed up for the walk. It was in the middle of the week in the off-season, but our tour went on as scheduled and we were treated to a "private" tour. I have been recommending the tour to everyone who is interested because it was enjoyable and informative. Most people here on the West Coast do not know about New York's Revolutionary Era history. And, the tour was a great way to orientate yourself to New York City. Highly recommended! | ||||||

Manhattan circa 1760-1776

| Considering we started out in a (surprise) torrential downpour, it was terrific. It would have been better of course if the weather cooperated because there were early parts of the talk that were inaudible due to the severity of the rain and the fact that it echoed off of umbrellas and hoods, etc. and caused much fidgeting. To say that it was distracting is an understatement. but thankfully, it did stop within an hour. We also had periodic difficulty in hearing our guide because of the ubiquitous construction going on all around, especially down the narrow streets, such as Pearl and Maiden Lane. Maybe you should give her a microphone. (only kidding?) Other than that, I personally loved the synopsis of Manhattan's Revolutionary War era, seeing the corresponding locations in the flesh and especially hearing the spicier anecdotes of the characters involved. Fascinating stuff. And our guide was terrific; you could tell she knew a lot more than she was able to get out in the limited time we had, but she answered any and all questions with great proficiency and enthusiastiasm. The tour also provided a superb jumping off point for more in-depth explorations. Thanks again for a wonderful opportunity to fill in the details of our miraculous past. Well worth the time spent. | ||||||

| Karen Quinones offered an enthusiastic and engaging tour. At times I found myself wishing that she had started by setting out a few specific themes to integrate the immense amount of information she shared. That would have helped give more structure to the vast, detailed knowledge she conveyed. But that point aside, it was still an excellent tour--both informative and entertaining. She loves the subject, knows an immense amount, and is an outstanding speaker. Highly recommended! | ||||||

| Enthusiastic guide, small group, good pace with lots of fascinating insights and information. Our group of 3 US citizens and 4 UK tourists made the subject matter of the tour even more interesting. Plenty of time for questions and a very personalised experience throughout. Would certainly recommend Partriot Tours to domestic and international visitors alike. | ||||||

| We found this tour initially mentioned in a NY Times article, though not this specific organization. I read McCullogh's '1776' and the tour guide was familiar with the text. We had excellent discussions about Howe, Washington, Hamilton and other people mentioned in the book. The events leading up to the revolution in New York were also discussed. It was truly interesting and informative, particularly for us, as we are History Enthusiasts. The guide was extremely well-informed and brought reprints from period newspapers and other documents which made the experience more meaningful. It is difficult to imagine NYC at that time, as it is so different today -so built up. I highly recommend it. | ||||||

| Our guide, Karen, made this tour our favorite of the week! She was very knowledgeable and willing to answer our questions. We had no problem hearing or understanding her (a problem we encountered on other tours). She was very friendly and accommodating as well, allowing us to take pictures as we went along. She even managed to make history interesting for the member of the group who usually is not interested in history. Karen took us to places we would have found difficult to find on our own, so we felt the minimal fee was money well spent. We are already planning to include another tour from this company on our next trip to New York City. Thank you, Karen, for a great afternoon! | ||||||

| We thougt that our tour guide was terrific: she knew both the general themes as well as the "hidden gems" that gave so much color to this exciting period in American History. Karen not only focused on New York but put it in context of the American Revolution. Karen's continuing research was evident in the maps, copies of Broadsides, etc made the tour even more interesting to my wife and I As someone who teaches US History at 2 local colleges, about 99% of what she talked about was new inofmration. Her passion for History and for New York during this time will be remebered always. | ||||||

| My wife and I took this tour on the first day of our stay in NY. We loved it. It gave us a good sense of where the spirit of New York (and New Yorkers) came from, something we thought about for the rest of our trip. Even if you don't like history, go on this tour. It is not dry. The guide is EXCELLENT--enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and sensitive. Again, strongly recommended. You will learn why and how New York became New York! | ||||||
