| I was recommended to go on this tour by a friend in Oregon. He was so enthusiastic about the tour, that I brought my daughter and her friend with me. We learned so much history (that I wished I paid more attention to my history classes in school!) Karen (our guide) was charming, informative, and attentive to detail that it made it the most entertaining tour. She answered all of our questions and had pictures to back up the history as we went along on the tour. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting New York. Next time I'm going to go on the Civil War tour. | ||||||

| Karen is a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and personable. She had interesting stories that brought the Revolutionary war Era to life. She also had pertinent sketches of what the area looked like during that period, where we were standing. The walk was the perfect length as was the time. | ||||||

| Opened up an amazing insight into a pivotal time in US history. Guide (think it was Karen) was a total enthusiast and amazingly well informed. Her understanding of the significance of the background as well as the events themselves added enormously to the quality of the occassion. | ||||||

| Great tour with an awesome guide. I took the tour with my 28 year old daughter. Karen, our tour guide, was full of information that was continually interesting and kept our rapt attention for the entire length of the tour! She gave us a tour of the city that we would have never experienced on our own! Definitely recommended - if we had the time we probably would have taken the Civil War Tour also! | ||||||

| A great way to spend a few hours in Manhattan! Karen, our tour guide, dished up so many interesting tidbits about the goings-on in the "town" that the time just flew by. It's amazing what bits and pieces are still present in today's lower Manhattan to tie the whole story together. Duane Reade is more than a drugstore chain! | ||||||

| Lovely tour guide but tour not really designed for international tourists who are not fully informed on the history of the American Revolution. The tour guide was very knowledgeable on the topic but we couldn't follow some of the details (and time lines) as we only knew a small amount on the topic and the tour guide assumed we knew a lot more. As we were the only two on the tour we thought it could be tailored to us as international tourists but unfortunately it wasn't. | ||||||

| My husband and I took two Patriot Tours in August 2008. This year we had time for just one, the Revolutionary Era tour. Once again Karen, our guide, provided a superb experience! We were amazed at all the facts she had at her command - the result of her diligent research in primary source documents such as newspapers, letters, and cemetery records. As we walked around lower Manhattan for 2 1/2 hours, she drew together stories of people and places to create a vivid portrait of the era. Names from the history books came to life, and through Karen's knowledgeable and enthusiastic presentation, we were able to gain insight and appreciation into what made that era and those people so inspiring. We highly recommend any of the tours offered by Patriot Tours, and plan to include one or more on every visit to New York City. | ||||||

Civil War Era Comes Alive

| We so much enjoyed the Revolutionary War Walking Tour from Patriot Tours that we eagerly signed up for this one. We were delighted to see that Karen would be our guide for this tour as well. We knew nothing about Civil War era history in New York, and were fascinated by the details and stories that made this time period come alive for us. My grandfather was born to Irish immigrants in lower Manhattan around 1860, and Karen was able to paint a vivid picture of the hardships and struggles that residents of this area faced at that time. In addition, we learned about some fascinating characters and political scandals - and marveled at the magnificent architectural details that Karen pointed out to us on at least a dozen buildings. We highly recommend this tour and will gladly take it again ourselves on our next visit! | ||||||

| My work involves research, reading and writing on George Washington and his family; some of my interest in this tour stemmed from my work. As a former New York resident, I also wanted to find out more about the history of Lower Manhattan, particularly during the Revolutionary War period. Our guide, Karen, could not have been better! Her enthusiasm for and knowledge of her subject were outstanding. Every minute of the tour was crammed with fascinating tidbits and facts about personalities, buildings, and events associated with each of the areas that we visited. It is unlikely that you would ever find the detail and depth of information that Karen provided, in any other reference written or verbal. We enjoyed the Revolutionary War tour so much that we decided to take the Civil War tour as well. My husband and I highly recommend this tour to others, and we will definitely take it again ourselves on our next visit to New York! | ||||||
