Entertaining and Informative!
Thu, Jun 15, 06   1:00 PM jvippolito Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our guide, Karen, was very knowledgable about the Revolution in NYC. She was also concerned that we all enjoy ourselves. I observed that she found a way to talk with each of us indivdually as we made our way through the tour. The members of our group appreciated her interest in each of us and her concern that we have a good tour. This tour is a great way to spend part of an afternoon seeing lower Manhattan and learning about the early stages of our struggles to become a nation apart from England.

Fascinating - makes lower Manhattan come alive

Although we grew up in the New York City area and have been to Manhattan many, many times, this tour really provided a new prespective. Karen's enthusiastic story telling and obvious love of history allowed us to see and feel lower Manhattan as it was in the mid 1800's. The architecture of the period remains in pieces for the trained eye to see...and Karen is good at pointing out what remains and filling in the gaps of what has not survived. Karen's descriptions and stories of the notable people of the time transport you back to that time. This was a most enjoyable 2 1/2 hours.

I had a very informative and fun afternoon with Karen on her US Revolution Tour of New York last week (apologies for the delay....only just got back!) Karen was friendly and knew her history etc She also made it fun too with many interesting and quirky stories about the lives of characters involved at that time! I learned alot from her and was lucky too in that I was the only visitor on the tour that day so it was even more special and personalised! I would highly recommend this tour and if I had been in New York longer would have taken her Civil War Tour too! Until the next time! Gary Fordham

This tour made the revolutionary era come alive!

My family and I have taken many historical tours in different parts of the USA and this by far was one of the best. The reason was that the tour guide, Karen, was not only very knowledgeable but also passionate about history. The tour was listed as taking 2 1/2 hours and actually lasted 3 hours. The 3 hours flew by and we would have enjoyed listening to Karen for another 3 hours. Our 14 year old son said he also enjoyed the tour and learned great a deal. I recommend this tour to anyone interested in American History.

Great Stories, Well Told

This tour was excellent. We have done a fair amount of reading on the revolutionary era, mostly the current biographies - Adams, Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, but we are by no means scholars. The engaging stories our guide told added greatly to what we already knew. Our guide was able to make the places and events come alive, which is no mean feat in the context of walking through modern day Lower Manhattan in the middle of a work day. She was able to bridge the gap between then and now, giving us a sense of what it was like then and connecting the characters and events to the current scene. But beyond the content, our guide was upbeat, friendly, flexible and a great story teller. While staying largely on her plan, she fielded all questions with good humor and nimbly refocused her presentation to fit the emerging interests of the group. All in all a great experience and over too soon.

Think that New York City cannot satisfy all of our tastes? Think again! If you are esoteric enough in your desire to know about the "Big Apple" during the American Revolution, then Patriot Tours will more than fit your bill. I found that our guide, Karen, effortlessly took us back more than two hundred years, making the City come alive during the uncertain and perilous times of our nation. The best part is that while the Tour guides you through the streets of lower Manhattan, your questions will decide and modify the course of your education, for apparently the knowledge of our guide is so vast that she can entertain any type of question that is of interest to you. In that sense, every tour is custom made according to it's participants and this is not a rote, by-the-numbers experience. Karen's supple mind and contagious enthusiasm make the two and a half hours fly by and I'm ready to do it again, with different questions!

We had a great time on the Patriot Tour. Our guide was very knowledgable and personable. Our 16-year-old daughter said the tour was the next best activity we did other than going to a Broadway show.

We took the tour with another family and thoughly enjoyed experience. Our guide was very interesting and really knew her stuff. We had no idea how much of a role NYC played in the Revolutionary War. Our guide was very tough it was cold, windy with freezing rain but she keep going and made the best of the very bad weather. Overall very good.

Outstanding Tour Guide
Mon, Apr 3, 06   10:00 AM JCourington Male 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My wife and I took three tours on this trip to New York. This tour we took on Monday, April 3, 2006. All three were good, however, this tour was extraordinary. The knowledge and personality of the tour guide set this tour apart from the other two. She was focused on the theme of the tour and was not distracted by the all the activity around downtown New York. Although she did mention the effects of the loss associated with the Trade Center, she did not focus on it. She focused on the history of New York City, particularly with regard to the Revolutionary War period. It was evident that she was passionate about this era of history and was able to demonstrate that passion to those of us who were on the tour. Twice during the tour we were approached by drunks. Both times she was able to diffuse a potentially disruptive event with a minimum of disruption. Overall, this tour was outstanding and I would recommend it to both native New Yorkers and visitors.

Fun Tour

It was an interesting tour, perhaps better than it would otherwise have been, since my wife and I were the only ones there. The tour guide seemed like she might be pro-Bush, and that turned me off. She was a nice woman, however, and I learned a lot. If you have bad knees, be careful, it's a long tour. Wear your knee brace if you have one-I should have. I would recommend going in warmer weather, when it's at least 55 degrees or warmer.

Karen did such a nice job of telling, showing, and explaining the history of lower manhattan during the Revolutionary time period. We have been wanting to do a tour like this one for a long time and am so happy that we finally did it! I cant wait for next year! I think we will try the Civil War tour next!

Our tour guide was friendly and warm, and exhibited deep knowledge of the time period. Her enthusiasm was contageous, and it was fun to learn obscure facts about the area and the revolution. It was definitely one of the best tours I've ever taken.

This is a great walking tour of downtown Manhattan, especially if you are a history buff. Our tour guide was Karen--she was friendly, informative, and enthusiastic about her subject matter. She is full of anecdotes, stories, and history that I guarantee you never learned in your history classes! All in all, I would highly recommend this tour for anyone hoping to walk the streets of colonial and revolutionary New York City--you're in for a treat!
