An excellent summary of NYC role in the Revolution

This was an excellent and enjoyable walking tour. All four in our party enjoyed the experience. The key to the quality of the tour was our tour guide, Karen, who has a great depth of knowledge, and a pleasing way of conveying the information. Karen is excellent. If you have any interest in the Revolutionary War i would highly recommend this tour given by Karen Ken Lewis

There were 6 of us on the tour. - three middle-aged adults, two seniors, and one 8 year old. We all found it extremely interesting, and took away different highlights. The tour guide is clearly knowledgeable, and can tailor the content to the interests of the participants. She is enthusiastic and clearly happy to answer any questions before, during or even after the tour. There were lots of great stories about the individuals who helped shape this country. This is also a very good value for the cost.

Still on vacation, so not spending much time on this. The tour guide has a firm grasp of the politics of the time, as well as the importance of each location we visited.

We took this tour on July 22, and have to give it rave reviews. I booked the tour for myself and my fiance, and another couple, as a present for my fiance's birthday. Both my fiance and my girlfriend are avid Revolutionary War Aficionados; me less so, but enthusiastic. It was informative, fun and our guide (the owner of the company) made it seem at times that we were really IN the New York of the 1700's. We all learned a lot (even the two "sort-of-experts") because there was so much more information that we'd never even heard of. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. We're thinking of taking the Civil War Tour in the fall. And lastly, I will never look at another Duane Reade drugstore without knowing what the names really mean! Thanks so much for a great day!

Think that New York City cannot satisfy all of our tastes? Think again! If you are esoteric enough in your desire to know about the "Big Apple" during the American Revolution, then Patriot Tours will more than fit your bill. I found that our guide, Karen, effortlessly took us back more than two hundred years, making the City come alive during the uncertain and perilous times of our nation. The best part is that while the Tour guides you through the streets of lower Manhattan, your questions will decide and modify the course of your education, for apparently the knowledge of our guide is so vast that she can entertain any type of question that is of interest to you. In that sense, every tour is custom made according to it's participants and this is not a rote, by-the-numbers experience. Karen's supple mind and contagious enthusiasm make the two and a half hours fly by and I'm ready to do it again, with different questions!

Good Tour! Tour leader was very well informed and presented the information well. She also knew a great deal about the architecture or the buildings in the area. We had a very small group so we were able to ask questions. She was able to give us a good picture of what lower Manhattan was like at the time of the Revolutionary War. The only drawback was ending the tour quite a distance from the starting point. I would recommend the tour to anyone interested in history and to seeing the island from a slightly different perspective. I was also quite surprised that the guide didn't ask for a tip at the end of the tour, very classy!. Well done.

This tour really opened to my eyes to some surprising historical insights as to what happened right in my neighborhood back in the Revolutionary War times. Locals should really take the time to learn of out area's historical signifigance.

We were a small group of just four people. My Mom and I and a couple from Michigan. We were all history buffs and appreciated Karen's willingness to be flexible and work in some of the non-Civil War related history of lower Manhattan as it occured to her, and to us. I would recommend this tour to others.

Old New York & Revolutionary History Come Alive

My husband and I loved this tour. We learned so much about NYC and our revolutionary war history. We saw so many treasures that we would never have seen on our own and she really brought everything to life with stories about fascinating individuals and historical landmarks. We would recommend this to anyone. Our intrepid tour guide didn't short us a bit despite our being in the midst of a mild nor'easter!

This is a great walking tour of downtown Manhattan, especially if you are a history buff. Our tour guide was Karen--she was friendly, informative, and enthusiastic about her subject matter. She is full of anecdotes, stories, and history that I guarantee you never learned in your history classes! All in all, I would highly recommend this tour for anyone hoping to walk the streets of colonial and revolutionary New York City--you're in for a treat!

Knowledgable, enthusiastic guide makes great tour

We ended up with only 4 people in our group, which made it easy to ask questions or follow up on things the guide had mentioned. She was very knowledgable about both the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars in New York. Besides learning about the Revolutionary War, it was a nice walk through lower Manhattan, and we got to walk down Wall Street, see the Stock Exchange, and see Ground Zero (from a short distance), in addition to the Revolutionary War sites. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in history.

A wealth of knowledge in a delightful presentation

This walking tour of Revolutionary NYC was a delight! Our guide was well informed of both well-known and obscure people in the period from 1765 to 1797 on Manhattan island. Her enthusiastic presentation displayed her love of the subject matter. Whenever applicable, she was able to cite the primary documents. We learned of the early workings of the Sons of Liberty in the context of New York's constant factional in-fighting, shedding light on why the New York assembly was so hesitant to come out for independence. Another highlight was learning of the battle of Brooklyn and the occupation of New York by the British, including Washington's spy ring. In all, it was terrific to hear the personalities of an epic time in US history come to life, warts and all in the places that they walked. I enthusiastically recommend this tour.

How many times do you walk through a city and read the brass plaques, but still have relatively no concept of the activity or the person it is commemorating? This tour, factually and passionately portrays the events, the people, the geographics and the politics of the time. Our tour guide's thorough knowledge of the time period enabled us to see past the skyscrapers and imagine the city of the 1770s. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to know more about the Revolutionary period or just the history of NYC. My favorite part was at the end of the tour. She will show you something that remains from the day the Declaration of Independence was read to the citizens of New York in the year 1776. This was the best 1.5 hours that I have spent in a long time! Next time I'm in NYC, I will sign up for the Civil War tour!
