Took the tour with another DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) member. We were very impressed With Karen's dept of knowledge. I highly recommend her and this tour. I knew a great deal about the period and the area before the tour, and learned much more from Karen.

Knowledgable, enthusiastic guide makes great tour

We ended up with only 4 people in our group, which made it easy to ask questions or follow up on things the guide had mentioned. She was very knowledgable about both the Revolutionary and the Civil Wars in New York. Besides learning about the Revolutionary War, it was a nice walk through lower Manhattan, and we got to walk down Wall Street, see the Stock Exchange, and see Ground Zero (from a short distance), in addition to the Revolutionary War sites. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in history.

How many times do you walk through a city and read the brass plaques, but still have relatively no concept of the activity or the person it is commemorating? This tour, factually and passionately portrays the events, the people, the geographics and the politics of the time. Our tour guide's thorough knowledge of the time period enabled us to see past the skyscrapers and imagine the city of the 1770s. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to know more about the Revolutionary period or just the history of NYC. My favorite part was at the end of the tour. She will show you something that remains from the day the Declaration of Independence was read to the citizens of New York in the year 1776. This was the best 1.5 hours that I have spent in a long time! Next time I'm in NYC, I will sign up for the Civil War tour!

Great tour with an awesome guide. I took the tour with my 28 year old daughter. Karen, our tour guide, was full of information that was continually interesting and kept our rapt attention for the entire length of the tour! She gave us a tour of the city that we would have never experienced on our own! Definitely recommended - if we had the time we probably would have taken the Civil War Tour also!

We were completely impressed with this knowledgable tour guide. We learned many things and covered an extensive area. The stories came alive for us as she described the historic scenes at each stop along the tour. We would definitely do a Patriot Tour again on our next visit to New York.

Fascinating portrait of People, Place, and Era

My husband and I took two Patriot Tours in August 2008. This year we had time for just one, the Revolutionary Era tour. Once again Karen, our guide, provided a superb experience! We were amazed at all the facts she had at her command - the result of her diligent research in primary source documents such as newspapers, letters, and cemetery records. As we walked around lower Manhattan for 2 1/2 hours, she drew together stories of people and places to create a vivid portrait of the era. Names from the history books came to life, and through Karen's knowledgeable and enthusiastic presentation, we were able to gain insight and appreciation into what made that era and those people so inspiring. We highly recommend any of the tours offered by Patriot Tours, and plan to include one or more on every visit to New York City.

I found this tour fun and done in an untraditional

In school, I studied History because I had to. Nancy did a fantastic job putting together the Revolutionary war with the prominent names we are all familiar with but more importantly she told the untold history in an exciting story format with a cast of people I knew little or nothing about. Allot of surprises. If I had her as a professor, I would have changed my major. I can not say enough about Nancy and hoe much enthusiasm she has, and the excitement she brings. She is a great communicator and story teller. I was never bored and surprised at the thing I did not know and how interesting NY played during this time period. I would HIGHLY recommend, and in this economic environment it is a great way for all members of the family or visitors to NY spend a couple of fun hours!

Incredible amount of knowledge shared in a very relaxed manner. Want to research so much of what I'd heard to learn more. Such interesting and fun facts I'd never have known!

I am a middle school history teacher and thoroughly enjoyed our Revolutionary War walking tour. Our guide was very well prepared and knowledgeable. I learned so much about New York's role during the revolutionary period. My daughter and sister in law also commented on our guide's enthusiasm and ability to hold their attention despite the distractions of weather and general city commotion. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience.

While a bit of an info overload for my 10 year old, my 13 year old recognized much of her recent Social Studies curriculum and really got into it. It was great to get a deeper understanding of our hometown's history and make conections to the significance of things we see every day. Karen was superb! She was friendly, professional and informative.

Our guide was knowledgable and told us about New York's role in the Civil War as well as other information that came up as we were walking. It was well worth the money and the time.
